Nature’s Beauty
In this exhibit, there are different elements showcased on what makes nature beautiful. This will be shown through florals, seasons, water, and more. To start I want to start with the selection of the location for the exhibit. I knew I absolutely wanted it to be outside in the sunlight, enjoying nature's gifts first hand while also looking at art demonstrating those things simultaneously. I picked a garden and more specifically a rose garden because it had a nice partially enclosed space which makes a more focused area for the art to be in. I thought it was also really nice to specifically be in a rose garden as the rose is often a signifier for beauty and specifically natural beauty.
For the selection of art I chose, I wanted to have pieces that were made of different mediums, as well as depicted various parts of nature. In the exhibit artists, such as Basile Boon, Jordan Nassar, German Mckenzie, Scott W. Prior, and Tiffany Studios are showcased.
Beginning with Basile Boon, “La Prairie”, his piece stood out to me firstly because I loved how it was crafted using enameled stoneware, which I thought was very unique and it stood out to me from the other art works. In his works with clay he says that it gave him “the possibility to create small objects, or small buildings, both solid and fragile, while mixing his dreams of architecture and those of his childhood.” I really loved his story and particularly in the piece as it shows a face within the plant, it gives the sense that beauty is personified within the creation.
Jordan Nassar is known for his geometric hand embroidery. His piece, “Four Seasons” stood out to me because of the intricacy of the art form as well as the beautiful muted earth tones and bold primary colors. I thought it was an excellent representation of the earth’s four seasons through a very interesting medium. Connecting to the theme, the seasons are a great showcase of nature’s beauty because in many ways I think it stems from each of the seasons.
For German Mckenzie’s piece, “Moses Point” and Scott W. Prior’s piece, “Sunrise Over River”, I thought they were an incredible use of oil paint on canvas while being so diverse from each other. They both emulate the beauty of nature. In Prior’s piece the seamless blending of the oils is what caught my eye immediately. And for Mckenzie’s I got a sense of relaxation from the painting which I hope viewers feel as well after looking at this painting as well as the others in this exhibition.
Last but not least we have “Rare 'Delphinium and Poppy' Transparency Panel” by Tiffany Studios. I really wanted something to draw a focus on the sunlight in the space and what's better than having a stained glass window to showcase beautiful sunbeams. The piece itself is absolutely stunning with its floral composition. Tiffany windows are predominantly shown in domestic spaces such as churches or public buildings, so I thought it was particularly nice to have a man made structure holding it up while it's out of its usual location.
All of these pieces do an excellent job in representing nature's beauty and I hope people will leave this exhibit feeling calm and having more of an appreciation for the gift that surrounds us on a daily basis, nature.
