FMP year 2 - Altered Perspectives
This album cover series was initially inspired by concepts relating to dissasociation, derealisation and depersonalisation. I took further inspiration from various artistic/photographers who take a surrealistic approach to their work, manipulating viewpoints altered perspectives.

Experimenting with overlaying filters, adding grain, texture and brightening up individual areas using the dodge tool. I was especially focused on highlighting the eye and my models bone structure. I felt this image was quite ominous and dystopian looking from the unnatural light flares present in eye while the rest of the frame is in the foreground under exposed

Drowning under the floorboards
I wanted to focus on capturing drastic contrast and shadows within man-made structures.
This being taken within an abandoned building, you can see the floorboards have caved in and nature is taking over in its place. I really like the individual light beams piecing from the ceiling and reflecting onto the walls. I experimented with using the tungsten white balance setting during this shoot and i found this to look quite surreal, like i was underwater due to vibrant bluey areas within the light path. I developed this later in Photoshop by exaggerating the contrast and adding flakes of texture throughout my frame to give the impression of small water bubbles

Fruit decay - week 4
Experimenting with a macro lens during the decaying process
For my FMP i wanted to carry out long haul shoot throughout my project capturing the process of natural decay. i used a macro lens in order to capture the fine texture coming off the molding raspberry. I carried out a shoot once a week for 5 weeks to capture the beautiful textures and colors that are found within something naturally decaying. I was particularly interested in carrying out this project as i found myself drawn to works of Heikki Leis and their photo book ‘Afterlife’

Experimenting with product advertisement
During my specialist industry project, i was focusing on product advertisment. I wanted to develop my images into something you may see in a magazine or possibly on a billboard. I wanted to keep things simple yet clean and effective with text i included. In order to peak the interest of my 'target audience' i didn't want to create an advertisment with a busy frame. This not only would draw your attention away from the subject in focus, but would usually divert your viewers attention as people are less likely to stop, read and remember a campaign with a bunch of text around it. i also found making this monochromatic gave it a clean, professional and high-end feel to the product itself

Abandoned Swimming pool
Taken for my FMP, i wanted to develop this image capturing the effects of decay due to abandonment and turn this into something beautifully monochromatic. I really like the vast contrast found within the whole frame and the leading lines forming into the center of my image, allowing you to scan the entire scene. I wanted to use a wide depth of field when taking this image as i felt the whole scene i was looking at needed be the subject in focus

Abandoned house - Abingdon, Oxfordshire
i focused on filling my frame, capturing and exaggerating texture within a decaying structure.
This image happens to be one of my favorites ever taken. I originally took this for my first year FMP, although due to the Covid-19 pandemic i was unfortunately unable to submit this. My project i was carrying out was called ‘Natural decay within man-made structures’ This was primarily focusing on how nature will always take over. I wanted to focus on the idea that over time, we as humans can develop our own man made structures and eventually nature is so overpowering that it takes over in a matter of weeks, months or years.

Melted fuse box taken over by nature
This image was taken for my FMP, where i focused on natural decay within man made structures. In this instance i focused on a man-made disaster, being taken over by nature.
My idea for this image in relation to my project is capturing a man-made object (the fuse box) being destroyed by man (arson on the property that caused this to melt in the first place). The fire being spread naturally throughout the area, by catching fire to the land around it, while later on being taken over by nature itself.
My thought was, in order to convey my message, i need to alter the colour balance within Photoshop. I wanted natural tones, combined with unnatural tones to convey the theme of natural decay within man made structures. I chose green and purple tones to express this.

Texture upon texture
Experimenting with cloning and duplicating on Photoshop
During my FMP, I focused on nature within man-made structures. This image was originally just a stick covered moss taken though a macro lens. I found later when experimenting with this image on Photoshop that once i turned it monochromatic, i was quite stunned at how unusual and unsettling it appeared to be. Something that an individual experiencing trypophobia would hate to look at. That being said i wanted to exaggerate the amount of holes and bazar textures found within the stick. I used the clone tool on Photoshop to duplicate various areas and turn just a few holes into a few hundred

Radioactive
During one of my first projects i wanted to focus on experimenting with a macro lens. I particularly wanted to play around with the colour theory within photoshop.
Knowing i wanted to keep a large majority of my image this natural muddy brown tone, i experimented with the colour balance by altering red and blue tones to create this vibrant pop of purple onto the ‘highlighted’ areas. i found this image to be quite surreal and unnatural so I decided to give it the name ‘Radioactive’. I was extremely drawn to this image as it appears as though its fluid detected under a backlight, such as ones you would find within a crime scene

Make it, Break it
I found myself inspired by the works of Stefania Vourazeri and his ‘embroidered secrets of Maurizio Anzeri’. His unique approach to obscure portrait manipulation is what really caught my eye. The combination of 2D and 3D elements in his work make for quite a surreal and bizarre set of imagery.
These images where created within a studio and printed out on regular printer paper. I then focused on weaving a needle and thread through my images in a strategic manner and scanned this in later.

Portrait manipulation
I was originally inspired by the works of Douglas Gordon and his ‘ Self portraits of You + Me’ series. His approach consisted of collecting images of old Hollywood film stars, rock stars and various famous people and altering the reality of the person behind them. He did this by setting the images on fire to manipulate their facial features. Although i did carry out this technique in my own work, i wanted to develop this idea further by manipulating portraits using other materials.
This is a small series of images looking though the gradual process of manipulation by layering soap, oil, water and ink.

Some rough sketches from my journal of my shadow box plan for my art class
I find drawing out my thoughts and ideas gives me more opportunity to experiment as i can look back on them to determine exactly how i plan to carry out a task. This does help me when envisioning how i want certain things to be laid out and what approach would be most effective

Art lesson- experimenting with etching and printing my photos
Originally this was an image taken of a reptile skeleton i came across in Crocodiles of the World. I found the fine details within the bone structure to be quite fascinating and i wanted to experiment with how i could manipulate its appearance. Using etching techniques, i traced my image and exaggerated small details and lines to really express its texture. I then experimented with different amounts of oil paint to see which outcome came out the best. i really liked the soft gradient appearance of my experiments so i decided to align them into a little series as such.

Creating cinamagraphs
Experimenting with different artistic mediums have always interested me. Looking into various artists who create moving images is what made me think deeper about what i could do to manipulate basic imagery. I found this experiment to be particularly successful as i was able to create my own gif/cinemagraph of milk being poured to create an iced coffee. i found i wanted to create something ‘unusual’ so when carrying this out i focused on masking and bringing though the bottom of the glass where you see this drastic colour change, obviously without the pouring in frame.

Recreating the infamous ‘Think Small’ Volkswagen campaign
During my advertising project, I wanted to experiment with recreating a famous campaign that is quite eye-catching. I found exaggerating the contrast between the car and the background itself, helps focus a viewers attention onto the large open space before reading the title of of the campaign.  The use of simple black and white text paired with this dull, textured background is what helped me convey their ‘think small’ message.

Abstract Portraiture sketchbook
2019-2020
I really enjoyed creating this project as it allowed me to experiment with different mediums and materials to manipulate portraits. I wanted to not only manipulate traditional face portraits but think about other means on representing a person though photography. This being my final image of duplicating many hands onto a tree or playing around with shutter speed to create an a dark and eerie portrait of hands tied in rope
(Unfortunately due to Covid-19, my work from this project is still on collage campus so i’m unable to scan these pages in)
