I've Decided to Stop Watching F1 for Good, a Brief Essay.
I was thrilled to login to my Tumblr for the first time in months today. It's the first media day of the season and I was excited to chat about F1 again and partake this community for the another season. But, given the news of Red Bull's dismissal of the allegations against Christian Horner I have decided to stop watching F1 for good.
As any fan knows this isn't a decision you take lightly. F1 has been a part of my life quite literally since i was born 23 years ago. My mum was a die hard Michael Schumacher fan, and the sound of The Chain and V10 engines blaring out of TV speakers on weekends defined my childhood.
As a Brit, seeing Hamilton and Button win back to back champions at the ripe age of 8 and 9 was all the motivation I needed to keep watching. I remember crying when Seb won his first championship, it was the first time I could truly call myself a fan of a winner. So it's safe to say F1 is, or well was, a big part of who I am.
As I've grown, and developed an understanding of the social and political landscape around me, it became clear that the F1 establishment had it's problems. Lack of diversity, ignorance to climate change and anti-feminist values to name but a few. But, there was always some drive toward change. We Race as One, Net Zero by 2030 or F1 Academy. Even if I knew these were for the most part a marketing ploy, I still felt I could watch even with my leftist political stance.
But I've finally reached my limit. If there is one thing I cannot stand above anything, it's victims being ignored or dismissed by ruling systems. And that's exactly what happened today with Red Bull's ruling to dismiss any allegations brought upon Christian Horner. I can no longer excuse the actions, or lack there of within the F1 community to stand up for what is right. For what I believe in. Therefore, I will stop watching F1 for good.
I encourage any other individuals whose values align with mine to also reflect of if it's right to continue watching F1 whilst the brand stands for so many things you reject. Particularly during this time where we are questioning the values of so many corporations and partaking in so many boycotts. Stand up for what you believe in. Boycott F1.

Can you imagine the sigh of relief from RBR when they realized this PR disaster for once was not caused by Helmut Marko?

reblog if you can confirm that prev has not made any complaint to the FIA regarding the allegation of information of a confidential nature being passed between an F1 Team Principal and a member of FOM staff. prev is pleased and proud to support F1 Academy and its managing director through their commitment to sponsor an entrant in their liveries from next season

if we weren't looking camp thinly veiled misogyny in the eye, this whole Susie Wolff / conflict of interest fiasco would actually be hysterical given how deeply incestuous and nepotistic f1 is, its basically a hallowed tradition, this is f1 honouring it's DNA

Certain sections of F1 media literally can’t breathe without denigrating Susie Wolff. When she got appointed managing director of F1A - it’s because of Toto. When F1A has success - it’s because she’s married to Toto and he’s influenced the other teams. When Toto is accused of something unethical - “did you know his wife works with the FIA?” [even though she’s not involved in this at all and is not accused of having leaked information]
Susie Wolff is a racing driver in her own right. She’s been a successful Team Principal in Formula E, and CEO of a racing team (one that was in direct competition with Mercedes might I add). She was a Formula 1 development driver and the first woman to drive in a Grand Prix weekend for more than 20 years.
She has a career that she’s earned on her own, completely separate from who she chose to marry, and the reduction of her to just “Toto’s wife” - including by other F1 Team Principals - is such blatant, ugly sexism.
“Imagine if Geri Horner was working in F2?” If Geri Horner had Susie’s resume I would love for her to be working in motorsports because we need more women in motorsports at all levels, including at the top?

The most fucking annoying thing about all the "conflict of interest" gate is it's going to be F1 Academy and Susie that suffer as a result of it.
They're not going to lobby for Toto to move on and dissociate from Mercedes, they'll want Susie fired, so F1 Academy will lose the person spearheading it, despite her clearly being the best qualified person for the role right now. Just as the series is finally going to get an opportunity to take off, it will lose its rudder and get derailed before its begun.
And even if they DON'T find anything of note, it's Susie's reputation that will end up being tarnished, because its always women that bear the brunt of these things, despite F1 and 'conflict of interest' going hand in hand since records began.
And all this for a tabloid magazine article by someone who not only is banned from the paddock, but has been on the receiving end of numerous libel cases from people inside the paddock.
The FIA are trying to appear like they're being 'fair and thorough and authoritative' but they're not, they're just legitimising the accusations when it's not really their issue to investigate. It's shameful politicking and it's yet another example of the FIAs internalised misogyny. Where was their investigation into the allegations about Mohammed Ben Sulayem? Or is it only when it suits them?

If I were Susie Wolff I would tweet "Abu Dhabi 2021 was an inside job btw" and turn off my phone.

i wasn't planning to login to tumblr during winter break but honestly, the comments i've seen on socials in response to susie's statement angered me so much i had to say something. the amount of people i've seen saying that her bringing up the fact that she's a woman and calling out the fia for their misogyny is "victim behaviour" is UNREAL.
i've also seen too many comments questioning why it was necessary for her to even bring this point up. you're blind if you think her gender is unimportant in this matter. when you're a skilled women in a position of power EVERYTHING is about your gender. lest we mention the fia and formula 1 are intrinsically misogynistic organisations. in 2021 the fia reported that only 35% of their employees were female* as if it was some sort of great achievement so don't ever tell me that's not the case. in this specific matter i think susie's gender is particularly important because i GUARANTEE that there are other male members of FOM (not mentioning names Bernie Ecclestone) and the fia (ex redbull spokes man MBS) who had inappropriately close relationships with teams in the past and therefore had the chance to pass privileged information to them without anyone batting an eye. and whilst it's true this situation is particular due to susie and toto's marriage, i question why then did they hire her in the first place? if they knew there was a potential conflict of interest the fia should've considered this before allowing FOM to employ her.
edit: not to mention f1 is a sport full of conflicts of interest... how is it okay for team principles or engineers or strategists or any other team member to pass from team to team without any need for a non-compete or sabbatical period? surely this poses a bigger issue when it comes to privileged information.

f1 does not understand or care for what their fans want at all. if they did they'd give us macau or hockenheim or sepang or instanbul park or kyalami. they'd scrap sprint races. they'd reform the way they give out penalties and care more about how to actually create closer racing. but they don't.
because cash is king.

"Yeehaw! At least, the second place. At least, the fucking second place. Agh! I wanted that win so bad. Fuck! But what a race, honestly...there's nothing left. Oh my god." "That was a race, though. I enjoyed it so much. As much as- fuck. Ah, the win. Anyway..."
