some linoprints I made for patterned ideas to potentially put onto tiles and to create multiple designs at one time.

Character designs I created as an early idea for Identity which was to make a series of animations of certain types of people attached to imagery that represents the kind of world they come from. I was going to start with these mock up designs before creating more detailed versions to which i would turn into screen prints and hopefully have a animated version of every type of identity stereotype that represents people of my generation.

A series of designs I made on photoshop to get ideas for promoting the tiles with posters or just experimenting with logos and shapes to print onto the tiles themselves.

I watched this video of Failes tile making trip which gave me ideas of how to tiles are made and what you can do with them. I like the way they created interactive spaces for people to be fully enclosed with in the art creating an entire visual experience for people to enjoy.

I experimented with stencil making as a way to mass produce multiple prints by using various designs I had made on photoshop I found this process to be trial and error but also gave you the opportunity to print on many surfaces as well as layer designs on top of others to produce new interesting designs that could stem onto different ideas. When it came to printing onto Tiles i felt this was an interesting concept as each tiles has its own unique space to work with and they come out different each time given them they’re own personal Identity.
Originally I had the idea to call it Takeover Tiles and print onto a series of tiles with that brand name attached to them and create interesting patterns on multiple tile faces to hopefully tile an entire room with.

For the Idea of multiple I thought Tiles would be a good idea which lead me to the discovery of the failes series of self painted tiles. Each tile is hand painted by an individual giving each tile its own identity and making it slightly different from the one that came before it. In portugal this is very common also and gives you the chance to play around with design ideas within the limits of a tiles surface.

I researched into David Carson as a graphic designer as he is a contemporary artist and is very well known within the graphic design world, I feel his work has links to mine in the sense he comes from a surfing back round and his early work was representative of that fact by editing surfer magazines and I come from a young community of skateboarders and feel we have similar design ideas when it comes to page layouts. I like his use of typography and the way he developed his own ‘Grunge’ type.

to crop out the image layered above my back ground I select the layer I want to crop and select the ‘magnetic lasso’ tool, I draw round the parts of the image I want to keep, join up the lines and then select the ‘add vector mask’ option on the bottom right corner to cut out the back of the image I don’t need.

This was a potential front cover for my zine, I scanned a roll of film I had as the back ground and then added text over the top on photoshop. I didn’t use it in the end as I went with another design but I thought it looked interesting.

I ripped some film prints of the band to give it that rough hands on quality and also to mimic the designs of punk fan zines, I experimented with the photos in the scanner the same way as the oil pastel on newspaper and shook them as they were being scanned to give the wavy effect you see. When this was done it meant i could cut round their edges in photo shop and then place them over any surface i want within the programme.

I experimented with warping text in photoshop as you see above by highlighting the text, opening the warp text tool and messing with bend and distortion to shape the text around images, I’d like to experiment with this further and try it out in different formats. I also highlighted text to give it that negative casing and screen shotted the outcome to then cut around and add back into the image to make the negative casing a permanent part of the image.
