We’re at the end of November and I have two new hobbies to try. But since this is the beginning of what you might know of me, let me introduce myself.
You can call me Jack. It’s not my real name because I want to be somewhat anonymous to the rest of my life’s presence. You can also call me by any pronouns because I honestly don’t care. I know what I am and that’s enough.
I started writing long stories when I was 13. When I was 15 I began drawing traditionally and in the following year began digital art. I started crocheting and then knitting some time in high school. And for a while I didn’t learn more. In the past year or two, however, I have gone nuts. I tried embroidery, cross-stitch, book binding. sewing actual wearable garments, leather working and scale-maille, and in theory I know how to do so many more things I just haven’t gotten my hands on, yet.
But I mentioned two things I’m going to learn soon. And they might be considered “odd” by some. Those that know me fairly well see it as just another step in my mission to learn everything. These two are insect (butterfly) pinning and ball-jointed dolls.
One of those is straight forward. Take some insects and pin them for display. I have always been interested but I never realized I could do that myself until Game Grumps: Power Hour.... I want to create a collection of butterflies from Nintendo’s Animal Crossings.
The other is very broad where I’m just telling you about a sort of collection hobby. But it’s got a lot of creative elements.
Now, I think they’re beautiful. These elegant things that people breathe life into. And I want in. I do so many creative things and I want to bring my characters from years ago into a physical form. Of course, I’m not one to dump a bunch of money into something I haven’t tried yet. My max is like $50. But anyone that knows about BJDs will know they are... expensive. So I’m starting small. Very small.
I got an Obitsu 11cm body which is a very “chibi” type. That’s fine. It’s not terribly expensive and while it’s incredibly small and I can’t find much more than the anime character heads put onto the bodies, I want to start small. If I get into this, I can have the tiny chibi version and then larger BJDs. As for the heads, I’m stuck. 2,000 yen is kind of a lot for shipping a few things. So I want to buy a lot to make up for the solid shipping cost but the place I want to buy from is out of stock for a lot.
Anyways, I’m done with my ramblings for now. Thanks for reading.
