🇺🇸recall of all flavors and sizes of yocrunch yogurt due to contamination with sharp plastic pieces🇺🇸

ALL yocrunch is getting recalled. the sharp plastic pieces are only in that dome topper with the crunchy pieces and not in the yogurt itself. little too much crunch!

to get a refund, or rather to get information about a refund, you apparently have to call danone u.s. on the phone during business hours. which is fucking ridiculous considering this is entirely their fault and should have been caught by quality control before it turned into a recall this big. this recall sucks

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. and LOUISVILLE, Colo, July 14, 2025 – Danone U.S. is voluntarily recalling YoCrunch® products sold at retail stores nationwide due to the potential presence of plastic pieces in the dome topper. If consumed, the plastic pieces could potentially cause a choking response. The issue is isolated only to the separately packaged topper and does not impact the separately packaged yogurt. This recall applies to all flavors and sizes of YoCrunch® products currently inmarket, as summarized on the table below.

emphasis mine. the recall is in all US states and affects all sizes, all flavors, and ALL yocrunch currently on the market. since recalls are typically for products within expiration, it is unclear how long this contamination had been ongoing before the recall was issued. really says something about their quality control here.

there is no danger if you throw out the toppings, but yocrunch is named after the toppings and this profound lapse in quality control is not very confidence-inspiring for the state of their yogurt...

Consumer complaints have reported the presence of plastic pieces in the toppers, which have the potential to cause choking. The plastic pieces are transparent, may have sharp edges, and could present a risk to consumers because some pieces are between 7 and 25 mm in length. This voluntary recall was initiated on July 11, 2025, and is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company is working swiftly with retail partners to remove the impacted product from shelves, while it works to address the issue and bring back the YoCrunch® products so many people enjoy.

emphasis mine. consumers discovered this problem, it was not caught during quality control. apparently there is some kind of widespread issue causing sharp transparent pieces of plastic to wind up in the top half of these yogurt cups, where the 'crunch' is kept. that crunch is then supposed to be dumped into the yogurt and mixed up before eating.

the range of expiration dates (further down in this post) implies that this problem was ongoing for months before a recall was issued. in 🇺🇸freedom units🇺🇸, 7mm is around a quarter inch, and 25mm is around one inch. the bigger pieces might be easier to spot, but note that it only says some pieces are that big, and these are transparent pieces getting dunked in yogurt.

notably missing, there is nothing saying there have been no injuries. there may have been injuries from this already. choking hazard is listed as a possible injury, but I (rune) would also like to draw attention to how sharp plastic pieces can slice up someone's mouth, insides, and/or fingers. so there is also an infection risk here if any of these pieces cut someone's mouth or digestive tract or hands, in addition to risks of bleeding from cuts or chipping a tooth.

this is not the most life-threatening contamination in the world, but the risks are still worth acknowledging, especially considering how popular these yogurts are with children and how big this recall is.

Danone U.S., the makers of YoCrunch, takes every consumer experience seriously and is initiating this voluntary recall in line with its commitment to product quality and consumer safety. Consumers who have purchased the affected YoCrunch® products should not consume them. For information on refunds, please contact the YoCrunch® Consumer Care Line at 1-877-344-4886. Consumer Care specialists are available to speak live Monday - Friday, 9am to 6pm ET.

note how they say they take consumer experiences seriously and not that they actually want to make those consumer experiences good. because right after that little fluff bullshit is, "you literally have to call us on the fucking phone during business hours to get information about a refund about this" which is absolutely ridiculous. nothing about this recall makes danone look good in any capacity.

sorry if i'm gonna be quiet for a while. my country recently introduced laws that make it so that in order to use social media to the fullest (not being able to view ns/fw content and in a few cases, not even having access to dms), i HAVE to give the sites my id/face scan.
