     “  i think the cheating scandal with the mayor was a lot more entertaining than what happen today,  ”  he muses with a subtle shake of his head, treading his fingers through his damp locks. though, the fair only really became a mess  towards the end. he shuts the door behind her before leading her into the kitchen. a sense of deja vu washed over him with her presence in his home again. if lorelai found out about this, he was more than positive she was going to kick his ass. what if she thought he was cheating and punched him ? or worse– her ? he almost lets himself get lost in his thoughts until she speaks up again. flashing her a small reassuring smile he gives her a nod,  “  sure.  ”  turning on his heel, he pulls open the barely-stocked fridge and pulls out a water bottle.   “  uhhh,  ”  he drawls loudly, debating whether he should just tell her what’s going on. there’s no way she came back to get back with him right ?  naaaah. for the amount of time he’s known her, she’s proved to be rather level-headed. so, he might as well tell her.  “  a little too much,  ”  he chuckles as he joins her in the living room.  “  remember my bandmate, lorelai ? we kinda started dating,  ” he reveals while offering her the bottle.  “  but, she’s also brayden’s ex-girlfriend – you remember brayden, right ? – well yeah, we decided to keep it a secret at first since they dated and all … uh, it ended up blowing up in our faces.  ”

     abby caught her breath , ajax’s sentiments throwing her for a bit of a loop .  she couldn’t even say that she hadn’t slightly expected something along these lines ... she’d been gone for a year , an entire mass of time and hadn’t anticipated him waiting for her in any sort of way ... but even still , hearing him say that word .  dating .  it stung a little bit . “ oh --- oh ! ”  she tried , taking a step backwards , “ that’s --- wow . that’s great , ajax . ”  the shock dripped from every feature on her face , though abby was never really one to dwell .  she wouldn’t sit in the feeling for too long --- at least , not outwardly .  inwardly , she would be a mess , she was sure ... but around ajax ? none needed to be the wiser . “ bl--- ”  she cleared her throat , “ blew up how ? ”  happy about the slight change in subject , chewing at her bottom lip as she attempted to maintain her expression .  her thoughts were live , twisting and turning as she tried her best to make sense of it all ... and stay calm , cool and collected . “ wait ... is this like ... gonna be weird ?  if i’m here ?  is she gonna care ?  you can tell me the truth . i can take it . ”  the last thing she wanted upon arrival was to get ajax in trouble . he obviously had enough going on in that department , and didn’t need her adding to any problems .  “ i don’t want to make any sort of ... issue , you know ? maybe i should --- ” she was already gathering her things , motioning toward the door , “ i should go ? i mean --- ”

       she knew she couldn’t just avoid eye contact the entire time . so she hesitantly  ( but , far from reluctantly )  looks back at donnie . she notices how he fastens the buttons of his shirt and she lets out a sigh . it wasn’t like she was appalled by the sight . she just knew if they were going to get anywhere with this conversation , he would have to cover up a bit more . for the sake of her self control … or lack-there-of .  “ you don’t know what i want to talk about ? ”  she was surprised to say the least . but then it dawns on her , perhaps this was his form of payback for not wanting to speak to him until he kissed her .  “ the fair … kissing booth … ”  she speaks slowly . waiting for him to chime in at any time .  “ am i ringing any bells donovan ? ”  she felt as if she were speaking to one of her siblings with her current tone . she shakes her head and walks closer towards him .  “ can we talk about what happened . like , what … i felt … maybe what you felt . ”  part of her hoping he even felt anything .

       donovan wanted to remind her that he’d wanted to talk before , and she was the one who was adverse .  he wanted to tell her that he was tired of the games , of chasing her around like a dog with his tail between his legs .  he wanted to tell her that none of this was worth it , that he was donovan reese , that he didn’t do the courting --- people came to him ... but as he stood across from her , watching how hard it was for her to even say the words she had , taking note of her mannerisms , her features ... he realized he couldn’t say or do any of those things because they simply weren’t true .  he was donovan reese . he did have a reputation ... but when it came to winter , none of that mattered .  “ i don’t know what you want me to tell you ... ”  he said at first , silence surrounding the two of them for a moment , uncomfortably .  “ i like you , winter ... i’ve liked you ... for a really long time . ”  his eyes rested on hers .  “ and it’s driving me fucking insane . i feel like i’m jumping through flaming hoops just to spend time with you , and --- ”  a soft smile lifted the corners of his cheeks ,  blushing . “ --- and i hope that i’m not alone in this . ”

     “  don’t worry about it.  ”  the last thing he expected was julia to make an appearance at his house. it’s not the first time she’s been here, but its been so long since that he can barely remember the last time she did.  “  you already know i cant cook for the life of me,  ”  he chuckles, shutting the door behind her as she makes her way inside. benjy pauses to look at her, teeth grazing over his slightly fuller lip, as she takes in her surroundings. he’s unable to ignore the wave of nostalgia that washes over him as he thinks back to when she’d come over with nick, whether it was to spend time with him or aurora.  he’s pulled out of his reverie when she speaks up, a small smile touching his lips as he nods slowly.  “  yeah … it’s been a while since you’ve been here, huh ?  ”  he quirks a brow,  “  is that an invitation from the one and only julia yoon ? ” 

       jules made a face , “ still can’t cook ? ”  she shook her head , “ we’ll have to fix that , benjy . ”  she murmured , peaking around yet another corner .  it was this odd feeling of nostalgia , as if everything was exactly where it was supposed to be , and not at the exact same time ... and that included herself .  she turned to him again , cheeks flushing a gentle hue of pink as she realized she had just invited him over to her house ... but in typical julia fashion , she just had to backtrack . she was treading her feet in the pool that was her never ending crush on benjy .  what was she gonna do --- nose dive off the 12 foot diving board ? no . “ don’t get too excited , temirak .  it looks exactly the same --- just a hundred boxes full of gabe’s merch now littering the garage . ”  she waved her hand passively , attempting to look away ... though her eyes couldn’t wander too far for very long .  “ mmm ... where should we go ? --- for food ? ”

        the aftermath of new york fashion week was almost worse than the actual week itself . sales skyrocketed and normally she was prepared for these type of scenarios . however , this time around , she wasn’t . now she was frantically running around , trying to get everything in line . she was running on iced coffee and two hours of sleep . she was on the phone when her assistant came into her office saying matthew was there to see her . it took her a second to process . but eventually she waves the other away , cuts the call short , and walks over to the front door . when she opens it and sees him , a wave of happiness hits her . and for the first time in days , she wasn’t worrying about work .  “ hey … it’s fine . ”  only matt could come over unannounced and not irritate rosa .  “ alright . come in . ”  she opens the door wider .  “ we can talk in my office . ”  normally she didn’t let anyone into that room . as per usual , he was the exception .  “ is everything okay ? ”

       he bit the inside of his cheek , walking behind her as she led him away .  was he serious about this ?  really about to do what he’d set out to do from the beginning of this ... venture ?  it almost felt too soon --- but the more he thought about it , the more he realized that it would always feel that way .  that was the fear of rejection haunting him more than it was his actual feelings .  closing the door behind the pair gently , he waited a moment before turning to look at her .  she was godly beautiful , throwing him totally off his game , causing him to drop his gaze . “ i ... ”  another pause , one hand finding home in his pocket , the other scratching at the back of his neck .  “ well , i --- i ... okay . ”  he swallowed hard , “ i want you to take this serious , okay , rosa ? don’t fucking laugh --- ”  gradually , his eyes lifted to hers , fear drenching them as he attempted to hide his shaking hands .  “ how do you feel about me , rosa ?  be real . cause i --- ” he shook his head , “ this ... can’t work for me anymore . not if it’s just ... what it is now . ”

     with everything that was going on with mars and the letter debacle, he’d been spending most of his time with nick and austin ( separately ). he wasn’t even sure how to face reyna just yet, considering mars had barely bothered to clear anything up for him. though mars had spoken about how she had a crush on him in the letter ( which he was utterly & completely oblivious to ), she also pointed out how reyna felt similarly – which was the reason behind her stepping back. it made his insides feel warm and he refused to let his thoughts linger on that feeling alone. grabbing his notebook, he pushes his locker door shut. he’s about to let his forehead fall against it until the sound of reyna’s voice rings in his ears. turning on his heel, he ignores the way his heart pounds against his rib cage. confusion masks his features,  “  i’m not mad at you, rey …  ”  he trails off before speaking up again,  “  why would you think that ?  ” 

      she let out a small huff , aggressively ( though given her stature and frame , there wasn’t much force behind it ) folding her arms in front of her tiny person .  “ what do you mean why ? ”  she quipped , biting her bottom lip .  reyna and scott were ... well , she couldn’t quite explain it .  things were always very simple . she liked him , he made her heart race a million miles a minute , occupied her thoughts day in and day out ... and she was also his friend .  they got each other , understanding each others quirks without having to say much . but this ?  this didn’t feel like them . something was definitely off . “ you’ve been avoiding me . ”  it wasn’t even a question , a plain statement riddled with guilt and sadness . reyna being the most transparent of them all . fact of the matter was , she missed him .  horribly .  that’s why it hadn’t taken long for her to call it out .  “ i would just like to know why , scott park . it’s ... hurting my feelings . ”

       waltzing out of class at the sound of the bell , reyna’s thoughts were running in circles .  had everyone in her life lost all of their marbles ?  it was one thing for mars to go awol , it was another thing for scott ... and later justin , too ?  what the hell was going on ?  she figured if they were all mad at her , someone would have let something slip by now ; and quite frankly , she didn’t plan on standing for it any longer .  seeing him standing at his locker --- looking cute as ever , she might add --- she approached , though her heart skipped more than a few beats on the way there . as he closed the door , her features were revealed , leaning against the metal beside her for stability .  “ are you mad at me , scott park ? ”  she blurted , cheeks flushing .  “ cause if you are , you should tell me ... and if you are , then ... then i’m mad at you too . ”

HAYAT.

     she really didn’t deserve any of it, not with the news she was about to deliver. nonetheless, she slips her hands over his, sinking into his embrace. with their relationship already being rather unorthodox, it was about to get even more complicated.  “  shut up cole, ”  she chides teasingly.  “  i highly doubt it’ll be terrible – i don’t think there’s anything you can’t do,  ”  she reassures with a small smile as she sits down. she flashes him a smile before letting her eyes flicker towards the paella he’d prepared, anticipating it considering how much effort he put in for it. but when he speaks up, her smile falters slightly, hating the fact that he could read her so well.  “  um, actually … there is something i wanted to talk to you about,  ”  she says, her nerves starting to get the best of her.  “  i need you to know, you mean the world to me, cole …  ”  she trails off, grazing her teeth over her fuller lip, racking her brain as to how she should explain her situation. her hand reaches out to grab his larger one,  “  i wanted you to hear this from me first – i …  ”  regardless of the fact that they had to hide everything from everyone, their relationship exuded simplicity. something they both craved and now she was going to make it difficult.  “  matt and i have to pretend to be in a relationship.  ” 

           he began dishing up plates as she spoke , ultimately opting to lick the sauce from his fingers as he did . placing a plate in front of her , a small smile lifted the corners of his lips .  she made him so terribly , uncomfortably happy . so happy , in fact , that he couldn’t quite wrap his thoughts around it .  it was like his entire life was just lying in wait , waiting for her .  cole , in all his might , wouldn’t be able to shake himself from hayat and her charms ... nor did he want to . at her words , he gently lifted her hand to his lips .  he could tell something was on her mind , and whatever it was , he wanted to be there for her . “ you mean the world to me , too ... ”  his voice trailed off .  one hand grasping her fingers , the other reaching for his fork . she continued , and he was only half paying attention .  that is ... until he heard her say it .  suddenly , it was like cole’s chest was about to cave in , instinctively releasing her hand and retracting his own .  “ what ? ”  was the room spinning for her too ?  he felt faint .  “ babe , that’s not funny . ”  he tried , hoping she might just be joking .  how was this supposed to work ?  both him and his girlfriend in fake relationships to appease the public ... cole called bullshit immediately .  “ n--- you’re serious ? no .  no ... what the fuck ? ” he leaned back in his seat , brows creasing together from his anger .  he’d kill matt .  he’d kill matt’s agent .  “ what the fuck , hayat ? ”

MARS.

SCOTT.

          the morning scott park finds a love letter addressed to him from marceline lim, he was confident that he was still dreaming. after throwing cold water on his face and drying it off with a towel, he reads the cursive letters again. no, this couldn’t be true. nick must be pulling his leg ( for befriending austin and all ). he laughs to himself for a moment, wondering what mars would do to him once she found out. but what if it isn’t a joke? suddenly, his stomach shifts uneasily as reads it once more, clearly unable to believe what was written on it. a million and one questions swirled in his mind like a fricking tornado. wasn’t she dating justin? did she actually have feelings for him? did she mean to send this? she backed off because reyna liked him? was he supposed to tell justin? is this whole thing a prank from nick?  he needed to talk to mars immediately. when scott finds her with the letter in hand, it’s with justin. at first he contemplates coming back later when it seems like they’re discussing something serious. but then he glances at the piece of paper in his hand before deciding to walk up to them.  “  hey … i’m sorry if i’m interrupting … i– uh, mars .. can i speak to you ? ”

          the tight grip mars’ had on the paper crinkled the edges . she thinks that maybe if she just ripped it up , they could pretend like none of this ever happened . but she knows the damage was done . justin read his letter . he knew exactly how she felt about him . when he speaks , her gaze travels away from the letter and onto his face . she notices the anxiousness on his features while he questions the letter’s authenticity . her brows furrow and without a second thought she says ,  “ no , of course it’s not fake . ” her anxiety was truly getting the better of her . her raw emotions on full display . obviously offended by the fact that justin would even think the letter was a prank . a million thoughts raced through her mind . but the number one question was who gave him the letter . mars thought things couldn’t get any worse . but then she hears another the familiar voice .  “ oh my god … ”  she sees scott park . her eyes instantly dropping to the piece of paper in his hand .   “ oh my god . oh my god … ”  she couldn’t go through this again .  so she does the one thing she knew would get her out of the situation .  “ jus , i’m sorry . ”  she shuts her eyes and crashes her lips against justin’s . for a moment , mars thinks , ‘ at least one good thing came out of this . ’

      before he could really process what was going on , mars’ lips were connecting with his . what was happening ?  last he knew , they were faking the entire dating thing  for the sake of his parents .  now she was kissing him ?  and apologizing for it ?  his hand reached for her cheek , gently resting there for a moment before he pulled away as slow as possible . he wasn’t quite sure of what he was feeling .  frankly , he’d wanted this ; for mars to like him back ... but something about it felt terribly off .  this was not at all how he’d expected it to happen .  it was safe to say  justin was confused , and it was showing . his nose lingered against her skin before he gradually turned back to scott .  “ hey , park . ”  he breathed , voice low as if he had just been punched in the gut . “ sorry ... we were just ... you know . ” he shrugged , reaching across the table for his own note and sliding it into his pocket .  leaning back a bit , he rested his arm across mars’ shoulder .  back to playing pretend , he guessed . “ what’s up ? you finish that ap us history quiz ? ”
