jake drives him insane.  it’s not surprising.  he’s younger, he’s more lively… he’s into soap operas.  if only connor could find entertainment in life like that.  he’s sure he’s got a long list of movies and television to catch up on since he didn’t quite get the chance to enjoy childhood the way normal kids did, but he’s got time ( not that time’s endless for his life ).  work is more important, anyway.  he doesn’t need to laze around when he can be doing some good in the world to balance out the bad he’s already dealt.

“ yeah, ‘cause y’give me a lotta reasons to judge. ”  he just shrugs and throws a fry into his own mouth.  at this point?  he doesn’t even care jake’s out here swiping his food.  he chews and swallows and his brows furrow.  “ i don’t even know what that means.  besides, isn’t it a collective hate for legos when you step on them? ” 

               “ boo, you’d judge even if i didn’t give you reasons to judge, ” he points out, feeling more than a little justified with that declaration. does it have to be true? meh. he waves the fry he’s holding at connor sternly ; the effect is somewhat ruined partially by the fact that it’s jake, and partially by the fact that it’s just a slightly bent french fry.

“ i mean, yeah, stepping on legos sucks. but that’s on you and your big dumb foot, not the legos ! ” he leans back in his chair, pops the fry in his mouth ; it’s gone forever just like that. ugh, it’s so much less fun when connor just doesn’t react. talk about repressed... “ the point that i’m trying to get at is that someone here needs to loosen up and get a hobby or something. it’s like you’re allergic to fun, seriously. ”

“ uh huh.  you drive a very convincing point home, i must say… ”  he is, absolutely, being a sarcastic piece of shit.  if there’s anything he won’t find himself watching, it’s soap opera.  or, well, he may watch it, but he won’t become some fan.  it’s not up his alley.  then again, no films or television has ever been up his alley.  he much prefers spending his time working.  researching.  exercising.  anything that doesn’t require him not thinking.  he prefers to think, the busy kind of thinking.

he almost snorts when jake retorts.  “ yeah, sorry to say, but only a five year old would respond like that. so— ”   he shrugs, and the hint of his smile  ( out of pure amusement, of course )  remains.  but, yes, before he can even get his first bite in, there goes a fry.  and he’s not surprised.  “ are you a fan of legos, too?  just to top all this childish behaviour off…  don’t be afraid to admit.  not like i’ll judge you or anythin’ of the like. ” 

                yeah, connor’s tone is just dripping in sarcasm ; still, that’s really just jake’s cue to roll his eyes good-naturedly. he’s getting used to this shit lately. even if connor would rather he didn’t, reality is disappointing. jake’s already decided. he’s going to find a way to trick connor into at least one soap opera episode. it’s inevitable. he won’t be able to escape. 

( it’s one of those nice little thoughts, torturing connor. sparks joy. )

“ shut up, judgey mcjudgerson. you never stop judging me. ” he swipes another fry as retaliation. is it effective ? no, but it’s the sentiment that counts. and also the fact that he gets extra fries out of it. “ let’s get one thing straight, lego mindstorm kits are the shit and the fact that you don’t understand this just shows that you have no soul. how can you even hate legos ?! ”

POLAROIDS AND MEMORIES  :   Everything you do is something that you wish you could capture in a photo, a polaroid, maybe with shitty lens flares and red eyes but something to remember you by. You know so much but you don’t know how to talk about it and you don’t like your friends. You think that you just need better friends, need to be able to talk to people, but that isn’t your fault. You don’t get along with your parents and you spend way too much giggling over stupid shit to make you feel better about yourself. You’re shit at naming things and you never like trying new things out before you automatically expect to be good at it. You were always the gifted child in elementary school and you never learned how to cry silently. You don’t get social hierarchies and you don’t understand politics but you understand that people deserve to be people. You feel like nothing you do matters but it matters to you and that keeps you from the brink at your worst moments. Your room has the worst lighting and you hate your city and you have a weird relationship with Blink 182. You can never remember to clean anything and you get along with animals so well because they like to play with you and you like that you don’t have to take care of them. You don’t trust yourself and you don’t realize it, but you crave anything to make sure that you don’t realize that. You chip your nail polish any time you wear any and you forget to brush your teeth and sometimes the world crashes down on your shoulders. You like to tell yourself current events in your life like you’re telling it as a story in the future of “that one time”.
