(pls read all the way thru before responding/assuming. this is all anectdotal and if you'd like to respond with your experiences or thoughts I'd appreciate it, but don't assume my POV if u don't know me)
I don't care about tme/tma discourse too much but one thread I've noticed that has been rly bothering me is "who cares if you get mistaken as transfem, you can just prove you're not, now imagine if you were really transfem"
I sympathize with this point of view quite a bit and I understand where people are coming from, but I'd like to point out that it is rarely ever so easy as "i don't identify as a trans woman" "oh I'm so sorry have a lovely day"
in my experience most instances of people assuming I'm transfem and treating me badly for it are either more subtle or too dangerous for me to spend any time in that conversation. I had a professor who treated me like shit for months because she assumed I was transfem, I only realized when I noticed a similar pattern of her treating trans ppl she saw as being AMAB like shit, and then it was too late. there was no point where she came up to me, accused me of being transfem, and then gave me a chance to explain myself. I just had to deal with it along with everyone else.
another example is people yelling slurs/loudly talking about me being a trans woman in public. what am I supposed to do to prove myself here? to get nude and let them give me an exam to see what exact transition steps I've taken and establish if I'm transmasc/neutral/fem? cause that seems pretty inappropriate or dangerous.
(I'd also like to point out that when you're autistic, it's a lot harder to play the subtle social games involved in staying out of trouble. my move is usually "run away and hope they don't follow me." my greatest privilege is living in a state/area where people tend to be extremely accepting or uninterested in how ppl present their gender)
my gender marker/birth certificate says I'm male, so I can't use that. I have a deep voice and I often have stubble as I sometimes lack the energy to shave. I could put 90% of my daily energy into passing as a cis man/woman but I am actually most euphoric when I'm presenting androgynous. I am not transfem but I'm often seen as one and this does have real implications for my life, and I empathize a ton with transfems because of this. I just sometimes wish this form of misdirected oppression wasn't treated as "no big deal." it can be dangerous for many ppl.
(disclaimer at the end: obviously actually being a trans woman IS much more difficult when it comes to transmisogyny, but transphobic people often can't tell or don't care who they're targeting. I just wish there was a bit more empathy for nonbinary and intersex folks who are often impacted by transmisogyny, transandrophobia, exorsexism, and intersexism, sometimes all at once, even if some of these can be misdirected forms of bigotry)

Seeing a lot of racist pinkwashing bullshit about Muslims and homosexuality. US Muslims favor equal LGBT rights (52%) over Christian evangelicals (34%).

I’m sitting in a climate summit rn and I really need to remind people that agricultural trafficking is a bigger issue than sex trafficking AND sexual assault happens to trafficking victims in EVERY field to the point that it’s kind of disingenuous to call it/focus on ‘sex trafficking’ the way it’s disingenuous to complain about sex work being ‘exploitative’ or the source of sex trafficking as if hotel workers, restaurant workers and so on aren’t known to be exposed to extremely high amounts of sexual harassment and assault.
anyway apparently some 70% of the children trafficked into child labor in the US are in the agricultural fields to put veggies on shelves and houseplants in home depot.
just something to think about.
