Presentation End Design
Our theme was locating dogs around Manchester in order to come to this final outcome we had to do lots of things such as Laser Cutting, Adobe Illustrator work to design the map and leaflet, Setting up the arduinio as the interactive feature using LED lights as pinpoints for different locations for different dogs, programming the arduinio for different timings when LEDs come on, creating a slideshow as a visual approach for the audience and we also wanted to make a POS (Point of Sale) in order to do this we used lots of dog related items such as toys, a dog bed and dog bowl to keep the theme consistent and look good.

Testing it with the iPad
In order to go ahead and set up our presentation we needed to ensure the slideshow was working on the iPad and fit the timings on the arduino for LED’s to light up are in full working order which they were.

Painting, Drilling, Wiring & Arduino
In our group project we needed drill holes in the map in order to slot the LED lights in the map.
First of all we drilled holes into the map then went onto to painting the map the all black.
Tumblr media
Our Map completely painted black with holes drilled in ready for the LEDs to be placed into them.
Tumblr media
Then we added the LEDs to ensure they all fit into the map before we started to work on the wiring in order to connect them up to arduino for them to work.
Tumblr media
We then started wiring all the negative parts of the LED together first which was the smallest pin on the LED.
Tumblr media
After the negative wires were all ready to go we then needed to wire up the positive part of the bulb to complete the wiring. In order to do this we had to use a longer length wire and connect it from the positive on the LED bulb to the arduino board so that we could program the LED's to do as we wish.
Tumblr media
We then connected all the wires up to the arduino board in order for us to program the LED bulbs in the order we want them to come on in. We decided to do 15 second intervals in between each bulb as there will be 15 seconds of content in that specific area on our slideshow then it will change to the next bulb giving a total time of 2 minutes 30 seconds for the circuit to be complete then will just be ongoing.

Laser Cutting Our Essentials
In our group project we needed to laser cut out a few things which we designed in Adobe Illustrator. Our goal was to cut out a map of Manchester in wood and transparent acrylic also we need to cut out the map sections therefore we had to cut the sections out in jigsaw pieces then glue them down. We also needed an iPad Stand to present our presentation off our iPad. The final thing we designed was a cut out of the title of our project ‘Dogs of Manchester,
First of all we cut out the base of the map in wood so that we could drill holes in the would for the LED lighting to fit through the holes.
Tumblr media
We then went to cut out the top of the map which was the transparent acrylic. we decided to use this material as we thought it would look the most appealing for the effectiveness of our LED bulb lighting system underneath the map to specify the different areas of Greater Manchester. We also engraved the map sections on the map so we could glue the down in the exact position.
Tumblr media
Then we went onto cutting the map section out in transparent orange to add a bit of colour to our design which we thought looked really nice and would make the lights standout.
Tumblr media
Once we laser cut each individual part for our map design we then placed each cut out in order on top of each other to see what it would look like in order to continue onto gluing it together. We did this to ensure everything fitted together well and went together how we planned it.
Tumblr media
We the had to glue everything together. The map pieces, the title of our project onto a black piece of acrylic and also our two layers of black acrylic for our iPad casing. We had to ensure we were safe whilst gluing these together as the glue is very toxic and can damage your eyes and skin. So you can see in this photo Miles is wearing gloves and goggles to make sure he is protected whilst gluing.
Tumblr media
These are all our requirements in which we needed to laser cut for out project. iPad display case, title for our exhibition and finally the map of greater Manchester in which we will be incorporating arduinio for the lighting system,

Group Project Updated Plan
This is our plan for our project. The theme we have decided to do is about dogs in different areas of Manchester. We are going to 3D print a map of Manchester and incorporate arduino using lighting and sound. We are also going to create a slideshow alongside this of different dogs which are most popular in certain areas. To include the lighting and slideshow we are going to light up each specific area where that dogs location is on the map. For example when a beagle comes up it will flash in that area.
Tumblr media
Rough plan of the layout of how our display will look with the Tablet/iPad and the Map of Manchester with the lighting. (This plan of display may change in advance of the project).

Foley Sound Session
In this session I learnt of a sound software called Foley in which it allows you to layer sound on top of each other creating audio for a scene in which you are creating or even re developing in your own way. In the session as a group we voiced over a famous scene in star trek.
The photo below was the scene in which we were voice overing in the Foley software application.
Tumblr media
This was the sound booth in which we recorded the voice over. The equipment we used was a microphone, headphones, mic guard and a cable to connect to the software. 3 of us did the voice over in order to create the scene.
Tumblr media
The final image just shows how to add different special effects to a piece of recording. For example in this case we needed to find a special effect to make a voice sound like a computer talking, with a bit of tweaking effects we achieved this. The recording is further up the blog.

Rapid Prototyping Session - 02/11/2017
In this session I worked in a group to create a shop model of a shoe store in this case we focused our shop on Adidas ultra boosts. Our colour scheme we used was blue and white as it is the first colours you see when you think of Adidas and the brand itself. Below are images from the beginning of the project throughout to the final model.
Sketch Plan
This is just a basic sketch of the shop model and layout of the shop. We have tweaked our final design as we thought of better ideas throughout the process of make our model.
Tumblr media
Gathering Materials and Designing.
In order to start working on our design we have had to gather materials together and design a few things to make our design work and come together. In this case we had to make the shop model it’s self by drawing out a cut out and glue it all together. We made three shelves which are made in different sizes to represent the Adidas logo, three bean bags for customers to try there shoes on to make it feel more exciting rather than have a bench, two Adidas logos to stick on the walls and also other things we made on the way such as shoes, a till, clothes and also the interior floor.
Tumblr media
Shop Box Model
This is the shop model put together to create a shop environment. As you can see the interior hasn’t been worked on yet and will be in the next process.
Tumblr media
Working on the interior and exterior
We then added the floor which is like a bubble effect as we thought it was a good idea to link the sole of a shoe and blue lights into the floor of our shop model. We also cut out a bit of the back wall to create a space for a speaker to go to include sound into the shop as we thought it was a good idea to have music in a shop environment and also we made windows with the logo on and sliding doors for the entrance of shop.
Tumblr media
Near end design
This is the near end design in which we added black walls to the shop in order to stick the white Adidas logo to make it look more appealing and also colored the 3 bean bags in blue to fit the colour scheme and then added the shelves so that the shoes can sit on and also added the till to the shop.
Tumblr media
Final Design
This is our final design in which we decided to add two Adidas t-shirts in order to fill the back wall space and they were also in blue and white to fit the colour scheme. Then we added a shoe box on the till and also added shoes to present some shoes.
Tumblr media
Overall I really enjoyed this session as it was very creative and shared different ideas to create a prototype model as good as this.

Arduino Session - 26/10/2017
In this session I discovered what ‘Arduino’ is and what it is used for. Arduino is  an open-source electronics platform using basic hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs such as a light on a sensor, a dimmer to control a LED's brightness, activating a motor such as a fan, turning on an LED. Whatever circuit in which you want to make you have to create a very basic piece of code in the arduino programming software to make your circuit work. in this case our group decided to use a dimmer to control the brightness on an LED. Below is images of what we did and also abit of the code we wrote in order to turn an LED off and on in a given time so it looks like flashing lights.
Our first task was to create two LED’s turn off and on in a sequence at different times and also to add a resistor to lower the current.
Tumblr media
This is the piece of code in which we created in order for this first circuit to work. As you can see below we have 2 LED’s programmed into this circuit. We used different delays to slow each LED down at turning on and off which created the sequence of them coming on at different times.
Tumblr media
This was then our final task which was to go off and experiment with different components and we decided to choose a dimmer in order to control the brightness of an LED bulb.
Tumblr media
I have taken away knowledge about arduino circuit boards and also the meaning of different components and how to put them to use in future tasks.I also have taken away a bit of knowledge on how to create basic code in order to complete the circuit when I have put all the components on the circuit board and wired them up.

Green Screen Session - 19/10/2017
In this session I was introduced to green screening and how it works in production of a digital film. When using green screen you need to make sure that the lighting in the area you are filming is balanced and there are no shadows.
Tumblr media
In this session I was shown how to use the green screen to add a character to existing film footage. In this case the scene that was being created was a person rubbing his hands together to look as though they are sat next to a campfire. Lighting was also used and 2 different coloured gels to create the light on the characters body which created a nice orange colour to look like the character is being warmed up by the fire.
Tumblr media
This was then recorded for around 20 seconds of the character rubbing there hands together and hovering the hands over the fire to make it look like the fire is warming them up by the use of lighting and gels. This recording was then imported into Premier Pro to be edited. I was then shown the character then being cut out as the whole of the scene isn’t needed because the lighting needs to be removed. Then the character was moved to the left of the fire to make it look like they are next to the fire.
Tumblr media
After that the green screen is needed to be removed from the scene to make it look like that character is actually in the scene next to the fire. I was shown how to use ultrakey in which removed the green background to make the scene look realistic and like the character is actually in the scene.
Tumblr media
Finally I was shown how to use different effects to create shadows and make a silhouette of the character to make the character blended more into the scene and look even more realistic as the character is blended to the background colours and lightened up by the fire. This was then rendered in which we could see the character rubbing his hands to together create a campfire scene.
