I have decided that with the information I have gathered, I want to try recreate a part in a book into a film like how books are turned into films such as The Hobbit. First I wanted to research into writers on the books and screenwriters of that book to see how they interpret the book into a script.

BAS BERKHOUT
Berkhout started off his film career in the Netherlands on narratives with respected global brands/companies. He worked on a viral documentary in 2012 on the artist Oliver Jeffers who I’ve already researched into previously. I found him through Jeffers and decided to research into his work because it seems a little similar to Premo’s fast pace. His cuts between Jeffers artwork is mesmerizing and the sounds he chooses are perfect for the zooms and the jumps like it’s some kind of sci-fi. In some cases he does no editing to some of the clips and leaves the sound exactly how it is, for example, the silence with the sound of the scraping and tapping of Jeffers drawing on a tablet. The idea of the interview shot on the character focused on in the film is unique as you get to hear him tell his own story.
JOE WALKER
Joe Walker is an editor who has worked on several award winning films such as Blade Runner 2049 and 12 Years a Slave. Walker first started off his career learning in the BBC Studios, by editing on the drama ‘Out of the Blue’ and the comedy series ‘Jonathan Creek’. One of Walker’s partner’s said this "Each film has its hero. For this one, the editor Joe Walker is mine. Arrival was by far the hardest film to edit. Christ, we worked hard!”. Blade Runner 2049 amazingly won 10 awards and all mainly for its cinematography and visual effects. Because of this I have studied the uses of these by watching and analysing the film to see how Walker portrayed visual effects and cinematography.
CASEY NEISTAT
Casey Neistat is mainly based around the website YouTube where he creates vlogs more unique than most other YouTube channels. He also was one of the founders behind the company Beme. He is no longer with Beme although their YouTube channel creates interesting news videos. Neistat using a wild amount of equipment when making videos such as drones and multiple cameras. His editing is interesting to me because he uses his own hand writing as a font for his videos which was an original idea of mine at the beginning of the project. From watching multiple videos you can see he doesn't use it as a font, he simply writes it out and adds it on after.
LEE SMITH
Lee smith has been working in the film industry since the 1980s. He started his career similarly to Joe Walker as a sound editor for a few films. He later worked on editing the films such as Robocop 2 and further became an editor for Christopher Nolan’s films since Batman Begins. He’s worked on really strong and popular movies and I wanted to research into his work because he’s worked on wildly edited films such as Inception. The idea behind Inception is that it breaks the use of physics and moves the world how it wouldn’t be possible to see. The use of editing in the film is outstanding and I’d love to research into how it’s done as it’s presented very realistically. Smith is also behind several award winning films.

Mac Premo
I am incredibly inspired by Premo’s work since the pace of his work is fast. For example, The Burnt Machine is a video of his that explains how he creates a machine, the idea behind it and how he turns his story into a play. His editing for the video is so unique as to how he presents words that he voice’s over. Like the use of the typewriter or his arrangement of the wooden blocks to create the word “whatever”. He also has parts reenacting his story such as the director saying he’ll direct and him shaking hands with the venue owner for his play. Premo also directed the advertisement for the HP Z2 MINI “Small, but powerful” the starting sequence is fantastically presented from his use of text where he displays it with the transform tools surrounding the text. In his video called ”The Bucket Board”, he explains how he had been contacted by the world wildlife fund to take something that already exists and re purpose it, give it a real life. He uses buckets and turns them into skateboards. The editing he uses is consistent throughout all of his work. The fast paced unique text presentation really inspires me to test it and see if it fits my editing style with other project ideas I have.

Oliver Jeffers
Jeffers is mainly an animator and painter although he had an interesting video known as the song writing machine that did interest me since it was shot as a live action although he changed the video to make it look like a stop motion animation. The ways I think he could’ve done this was either by shooting it with photos or editing it down enough between each frame to create small jumps between frames. It really reminded me of something from Aardman Animations however it amazed me how it was done in live action. Jeffers has a reoccurring style in all his videos with this stop motion effect on his work. He has a video called A Red Story explaining aids and its problems and effects. The way he presents it is on a book set in the same place turning pages which animate artwork on each page. His artstyle reminds me of PESfilm with their video ”Fresh Guacamole” and OxO cubes with their advert “The Magic Touch”.

Hyperlapse
A Hyper-lapse is a time-lapse photography technique that allows the photographer create motion shots. This is achieved by moving the camera forward manually a short distance between each shot. The first time this technique was seen being used was around 1995 called Pacer using a Super 8 film by Guy Roland.
A task I have been given today is to use google maps as a way to display my journey on my Brighton trip

Rear Window
The film was fantastically written for it’s time and had a strong storyline considering the film was set in the same place the entire film. It had key parts that foreshadowed particular events such as when Stella suggests predictions such as bad things happening because Jeff had been looking out the window to his neighbours. This told us Jeff was possibly going to be in trouble near the future as we all know he won’t stop looking out the window. Overall, it was a fantastic film and I enjoyed it for its humour and suspense.
