BARANGAY 341. Located in Sampaloc, Manila.

We conducted an interview among one of the representatives of their barangay. We asked a series of questions on how they handle disaster risk reduction managament and we started with the question of, “what are the disasters they have already encountered among their barangays?”, manong answered that the disasters they have encountered has only been floods. They haven’t really encountered any fires, landslides, nor earthquakes since they claim that their barangay is secured and safe from it.

They do not have any type of evacuation centers in case of emergencies, although manong said thats they have been doing drills for fires and earthquakes so that they could be more aware on how to act when calamity strikes.

INSIGHTS

Personally, when manong said that they didn’t have any sort of evacuation centers or such caught my attention, even if the community members can be “safe” among their homes, but what about the homeless? What if some homes end up breaking when a calamity strikes? I honestly think that they aren’t fully prepared for calamities. Although, doing drills on preparation for earthquakes and fires are a start, but I honeslty think that they should have more responsibility among their community members.
