God and I have been helping Janet
God and I have been helping Janet
If you wonder where I’ve been lately, join the crowd. God and I have been busy helping Janet through the holidays by inspiring her to learn about and develop phone apps for you.
First on our agenda was “My Prayer App.” I, myself, was a mighty prayer warrior, and one of my favorite verses is:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your…

The little demon that couldn’t
The little demon that couldn’t
I may have been demon possessed for a couple of weeks, that started about six months before I died.  ALL of my caregivers thought so.  And they may have been right.  They even asked a Catholic priest to come and bless my home, but he was too busy to come – said he had about two months worth of similar requests ahead of me.  So the caregivers took matters into their own hands, sprinkled holy…

Late night conversation with my caregiver
Late night conversation with my caregiver
I had just gotten Kitty Cat, and was trying to think of a name for her.  This was two months before I moved to memory care, and four months before I died.   My caregiver was excellent at “joining my journey” on this night, helping to create such a peaceful and pleasant feeling in me (that could otherwise have been easily full of anxiety and agitation).  She responded to me in a manner that gave…

Precious Lord (Sunday song #2)
Precious Lord (Sunday song #2)
Because you all loved Crystal Lewis singing “How Great Thou Art,” I decided to share one more from her.  This song touched my heart in the most beautiful way.

Angels come in different forms
Angels come in different forms
Driving to church one day with my three year old grandson, Douglas.
“What’s John 3:16, Grandma?” Douglas said.
“You know what it is,” I said.
“But I wanna see if YOU know what it is.  What’s John 3:16?” he persisted.
“Let’s say it together,” I said.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Then I saw red…

My Thanksgiving Angel
Thanksgiving 2010. I didn’t know at the time would be the last such meal I would prepare. Yet perhaps I did know, at some level, as it was the first time I asked for help.
Adriana was a neighbor I met while perusing her garage sale items. A large oil painting of angels caught my eye. It was exquisite in color and form. So I paid the asking price of fifty dollars, and that is when I met the…

My husband Richard was euthanized with antipsychotic drugs
My husband Richard was euthanized with antipsychotic drugs
I haven’t said too much about my husband, Richard, up to this point.  Mainly because Janet has had a hard time dealing with how he died – and how she was powerless to help or rescue him in time.  Perhaps it is time to begin to tell his story.  Starting from the end.
Richard was home with caregivers during the two months I was in the hospital and rehabs from my broken leg.  Janet was literally…

Sticks and stones, and broken bones
Sticks and stones, and broken bones
Roy helped Richard out of the car, then walked around to my side to open my door.  I reached inside for my cane, and was turning to join them.
Roy was Richard’s caregiver, and came weekdays to our home.
“Wait Richard,” Roy said.
I turned suddenly to see Richard running away from the house, toward the street. Roy was chasing him.
“Richard! Richard!” I called out.  And then I lost my…

I used to sing like this
I used to sing like this
I was a mezzo soprano in my younger days, and was asked to sing for numerous churches, organizations, weddings, funerals, etc.  Sadly there are no recordings, else I’d share one with you, now.  The only videos are of me singing “Amazing Grace” when I was 89 and 90 . . . long after my voice had gone.  In fact I stopped singing much younger than that when I felt I’d lost my voice.  It was only…

The moment of death need not be feared
The moment of death need not be feared
The thought of dying used to frighten me. It wasn’t about the afterlife – I knew where I was going.  It was the transition moment between life and death that I feared. Like jumping out of a plane without a parachute. I was afraid that it might be painfully overwhelming. Perhaps maddening. And the closer I came to the event, the more fearful I became of that moment of total breathlessness. But…

When I think of you (Sunday song)
When I think of you (Sunday song)
Many years ago, the African Childrens Choir performed at my church for Christmas.  Several of the church families, including mine, invited the children and their families into their homes to celebrate the season.  My deep love for Africa began after spending time with one of the families.  It was amazing to me how the children, who did not speak English, played so joyfully with my own kids, who…
