This is a reworking of a piece I made last year. Lately I’ve been experimenting with layering to create texture and depth, and I thought this piece would be fun to play with.
“If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It”
10x10, framed 12x12
Mixed media, hand-cut collage

I'm only a few months into my collage art journey and trying to learn. Struck by how clean, precise, and beautifully cohesive your art is just like, mechanically
The symbolism has my brain going all kinds of places, but that's not this ask
It almost looks digital because of how flawless it comes together, but the fact that your hands touched the medium is some of why I'm so into it. Do you have any tips for beginners to the art form?
I use magazines and books from the 30s-90s but might start printing images. What's your method and how do you find the original work?
Answer whenever or not at all, just grateful that you've shared your art!
Hello! This is my first ask, so I’ll do my best 😅
I find my sources digitally via The Library of Congress, The Welcome Collection, and by physically scanning images I find in books/magazines. I then edit and illustrate those images in Photoshop. Once I’m happy with my work I’ll then print out the pieces, cut them out, and assemble. This process can take anywhere from a week to a month.
I think it’s hella cool you make collages from physical found media! My favorite thing about collage is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it — and anyone can do it!
My tip to you is what I tell myself every time I get that itch to make something — always keep learning and it’s ok to fail. 💖
