arctic monkeys muses: alexa chung

timeline: alexa & alex dated from 2007-2011.

alexa chung is an english writer, television presenter, model, & fashion designer. she has written two books & currently co-hosts the show next in fashion with queer eye’s tan france.

songs about her: 

fire and thud: fire & thud is one of the first songs believed to be written about alexa. “if its true you’re gonna run away/tell me where, i’ll meet you there” refers to when alexa landed her own show on mtv & was relocating to New York. alex ended up moving as well in order to be with her.

suck it and see (the album): the entirety of sias is believed to be about alex’s relationship with alexa, so im just going to pick the most notable songs. 

she’s thunderstorms: it was reported that this song was written during a “mad thunderstorm” in alex’s New York apartment that he shared with alexa. “here’s your host/sounds as if she’s pretty close” is almost definitely referring to alexa, who at the time was hosting her mtv show it’s on with alexa chung. 

all my own stunts: yet another song written about alexa, the song is about alex moving to New York with alexa for her career, but he ended up being left alone in their flat & wasting a lot of time there while she was gone.

am (album): if suck it and see is the album for alexa & alex’s relationship, then am is the breakup album. 

do i wanna know: after alexa & alex split in 2011, there were a few instances of them being spotted together in the years leading up to the release of am. the two were reported as still being friends, & alex spent a period of time on his own before he started dating arielle vandenberg later that year. “too busy being yours to fall for somebody new” & “crawling back to you” could potentially be about how they still got together for a little bit after the breakup & how alex was truly upset by it. 

knee socks: another ode to a girlfriend past, this song is almost definitely about alexa because one of her wardrobe staples during their time together were her knee socks. “you & me could’ve been a team” shows that this was written about an ex, & “you cured my january blues” fits the timeline of alex’s breakup with johanna & how he met alexa a few months later in april. when he says “i got a feeling i might’ve lit the very fuse” he is referring to the show alexa co-hosted from mid-2012 to the end of 2013 ‘fuse news’. additionally, in alex’s infamous valentines day poem to alexa it is revealed that they didn’t get together immediately after they met, which fits the line, “you were a stranger in my phonebook i was acting like i knew”. 

fireside: another song written post-breakup, this one is more subtle in its references to chung. “in my heart there’s that hotel suite/& you lived there so long/it’s kind of strange now you’re gone” refers to the fact that up until this point, alexa had been alex’s longest relationship, four years together, he had written songs about her, their relationship had inspired a full album, he had even moved to the us for her, so now that it’s over he’s not used to the void where alexa once was. additionally, the lyric “& your fuse is fireside” is another allusion to alexa’s show ‘fuse news’.

Okay so I just finished Five Dark Fates.

(FIVE DARK FATES SPOILERS)

First of all I cannot believe that Mirabella and Katharine are dead. In the end I wanted the triplets to love each other and rule together.

In the end before they died the triplets actually loved each other.

- Mirabella and Arsinoe go to a foreign country together and they love and would do anything for each other

- Katharine thinks she will be feel murderous towards Mirabella but when she sees Mirabella she doesn’t

- Katharine and Mirabella start to love each other

- Katharine doesn’t want anyone to kill Mira

- Kat literally gets matching breastplates for them

- Kat asks Mira to have her triplets

- Mira ASKS Kat to kill her

- Kat does it to SAVE HER from what she endured

- So Mirabella died loving Arsinoe and Katharine

- Arsinoe wants to kill Kat for killing Mira

- When she sees Kat on the battlements she thinks she is going to just run up and kill her but she doesn’t

- Kat seems genuinely happy to see Arsinoe which suggest she cares for her

- KAT DIES SAVING ARSINOE FROM THE DEAD QUEENS

- After Kat dies Arsinoe yells Katharines name

IN CONCLUSION KAT KILLED MIRA BECAUSE MIRA SAID SO AND TO SAVE MIRA FROM WHAT KAT ENDURED. KAT DIED SAVING ARSINOE. ARSINOE ENDED UP LOVING KAT. SO IN THE END THEY ALL LOVED EACH OTHER!!!

Okay, I just need to say that the Red Queen fandom doesn't talk a lot about one specific scene that was one of the most unexpected moments in the books. CAL SENDING THAT NEWBLOOD WOMAN (sorry forgot her name) UNDERCOVERED INTO MAVEN'S NEWBLOOD RECRUITMENT IN KING'S CAGE, MARE CALLING HIM STUPID OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN HER HEAD AND THE LADY BEING KILLED BC THEY DISCOVERED HER COVER!!!

I mean, my baby was so worried and upset and crazy about Mare that he actually did that. I cannot express everything I was feeling in that moment, lonely worried baby Cal, prisoner baby Mare and innocent woman killed trying to save her my god

The Evolution on Mare and Evangeline’s Relationship

 These two started their relationship we the classic “You’re a bitch who wanna stole the cute guy from me so let’s be the female rivals™ trope and try to kill each other sometimes”. In the end of Book 1 Evangeline tried to kill Mare and literally said that Cal “supposed to be mine”, so yeah, what a good start =D.  The first time Eve was kind of nice with Mare was when she freed her from Maven in King’s Cage, like yeah, she had her own intentions by doing that, but it stills something. Also, in the end of Book 3 Evangeline showed up with her family, saved Mare’s life in the battle field, turned to her and said all confident: “Don’t get used to it”.

  When Evangeline got engaged with Cal (again) in War Storm I got happy that this didn’t changed anything in their relationship because Mare knows Evangeline doesn’t even like men to start with, she was too busy being a big lesbian for Elane. So instead of seeing her as “competition to win Cal’s heart”, she comprehended that Eve was being forced to do so, and instead asked CAL to do something about it, since the relationship has only to do with them, not Eve, and that’s when things start to change. From then, I felt like Mare begin to try a little harder to bear with Eve’s bitch lifestyle because she start to see a bit of her fragility and reasons, that’s empathy honey.

 And then, Evangeline started her career as Marecal’s Exclusive Cupid, and Mare and Evangeline having that duel while Cal was watching was so amazing, they couldn’t stop switching between punching or trash-talking each other and I was LIVING FOR IT. Shout out to Eve for shamelessly being horrible at hiding her intentions to cause sexual tension between those two heteros, and shout out to Mare for asking “Maybe Elane can lick your wounds?” and present us with one of the best lines Victoria ever wrote to Evangeline lmao.  War Storm was the book were we could see their friendship grow the most, and in the end of it Evangeline ran away to Montfort, and when Cal told Mare about it I though she would get mad with Eve for abandoning the Alliance with all that big battle happening, but instead she just smiles and say “Well done”, like a genuine proud friend. That’s when I had the proof of how far they went in that book.  In Broken Throne we get the true top tier development of this amazing friendship. Evangeline decided to work as Mare’s bodyguard because she knows they have a good dynamic even not liking each other. They love to be sarcastic and straight up mean at each other because now they take it as a good gal pal game to put their anger in someone and relax, instead of making this a threat to kill each other like they used to do. Mare even said that it was easier to say stuff to Evangeline cause they were not close enough to judge each others personal problems, and that’s really crazy ‘cause that’s really how it is, I could relate to this.   Also it was so hilarious when Eve told Mare she was her bodyguard, we all know she will always try to be a pain in Mare’s ass on purpose, and then she just straight up finished the conversation with “I’m so good at saving your life that I decided to be paid for doing so” LMAO YES QUEEN.  Some hours later, we got that really big moment when Mare asked Evangeline why she was helping her to get back with Cal and listening to her so much, and Eve just says “There’s not many people that deserves to be happy. I certainly don’t deserve it, but here I am”, finishing with “I think you deserves to be happy, Barrow” and Mare just got SHOCKED (I did not intended to make that joke, sorry). LIKE UHHHHH YEEES CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Y'ALL! SHE CARES ABOUT MARE WHO WOULD’VE THOUGHT?!  In the end of the chapter, Eve took Mare to have a date with Cal while she drinks wine across the street with Elane, IT’S BASICALLY A DOUBLE DATE AND THAT’S SO SWEAT!  Anyways, I love this “I hate you bitch but I still care about you, bitch” kind of friendship of them and really loved how it turned out, all their moments together really made me laugh, simp and wholesome.
