Summary: The mysterious wizards work tirelessly to end the centuries old war with the savage Westerners and Zia now has a chance to become one of them. Her family have mixed feelings though, not convinced that such a choice is ideal for a high ranking Daughter of Eastern. I don’t really watch this show but I do continue to follow Katie’s career as I do all the ‘Merlin’ crowd.  Just reading back over some of my old fanfics yesterday and reminding myself just how much I enjoyed Morgana.  Katie was incredible for bringing that complex character to life with so little experience and now I watch this scene and see both the same talent and yet MORE talent.  I can see how much Morgana could have helped her to shape Lena. They’re not the same, certainly, but they’re both girls who have taken their abuse/neglect and shaped it into POWER.

This is The Quire.  Long ago the magistrates battled to overthrow the monarchy and the world of magic it supported.  As a result, the modern Quire is a idyllic world of democracy and technology, but is the ancient, magical world quite as evil as the magistrates like to make out?

Chapter 8

…now she got along with Alyia’s brother better, the four would often explore the area around the village together, usually holding hands in their pairs, and often daring each other to get close to the large forbidden forest which loomed over the little village. “We could go down those tracks,” Rubil suggested. “The hunters are able to safely follow those paths during their trips.” “They go in large groups and are well armed,” Sasha reminded him. “I admit that it’s fun to get close, but there are wild animals in there that like to eat quires and it’s really not worth the risk for a dare.”

Chapter 9

The two young men in front of her stood up then but they didn’t look entirely quire. Even so, Sasha felt a thrill of excitement at how handsome they were despite their strange appearance; one not much taller than she was, the other towering over her. Their hair was tricoloured – black, white and orange – their ears sharply pointed and their eyes were amber and looked more like cats’ than quires’. Then they both removed their shirts to reveal toned, bare chests and large, butterfly-shaped wings and Sasha gasped and moved closer to them, fascinated by their physique.

In the world of the Quire, two young girls grow up in different eras, different regions and with very different belief systems. Their paths will cross in unexpected ways, every decision they make influenced by a past and future full of magic and conflict. Who would you trust? Magistrates, Magicians or Mutants?
