Advance: From  new to expert

Handy: Note pad  and weather app
 Overall:
This app is a gardening tool, for whether or not you’re a  novice or an expert. It shows the weather at the top of the home page, which  is quite handy for day to day work. In the middle of the page, it shows a  note pad that you can go to for note taking, and a catalog for figuring out  which plants you would like to work with. Towards the bottom of the page, it  has a, “Help Me Choose” button, which is great for deciding which plants are  good for those that are just starting out. It also has a, “Learn To Grow”  button which are useful tips, especially for new green thumbers, from a  glossary of terms, to weeding techniques. There is also a button that helps  find a store or a nursery that is nearby to your location. Another especially  convenient tool that is located in the center of the homepage, is a camera  option. This way, you are able to snap pictures of your progress as you go.  Another nifty part of the camera section is that you can add your pictures to  your notes to indicate the progress you have made. There are also symbols  that you can add to the picture to indicate how much the plant has been  watered, how much soil it was given, what time of day the plants were looked  after, the what the weather was like for that day and how many bugs were in  the area of the plant. Overall, this app is a great start into the world of  gardening. Two green thumbs up!

You Make Me Feel So Green!
Hello fellow tumblers, and welcome to my blog! It has been a busy year for me, but I am happy to announce that I have recently moved into a house! It needs some work in general, as it was built in the mid-80’s and hasn’t been updated or renovated much at all. However, the exciting news is that with this house, I have been endowed with a beautiful garden! There are flowers and plants, some of which I recognize, some of which I’ve seen but don’t know the name of, and some that I’ve never seen before in my life! I’m going to need one of those green thumb novice books!
It definitely does need a good head start though, and lots of work as there are weeds, and a stone path that is half submerged by soil and stray plants. But, I am excited to take on a new project and start a new chapter in my life!
The last few days I have broken out the ol’ Crocs and trekked through the garden. The grass is longer than my hair, but no worries, I have found a lawn mower in the garage, which I think I will dust the cob webs off of today. I have also taken pictures of some of the flowers I have come across, one of which is an old favourite! I know that many of you who come across my blog will recognize the flower but might not know the name. I thought that this could be a fun guessing game! Take a look at the picture with this post (the same picture as my background picture); it is one of the flowers I have found. I will give you a clue, the name of the flower was popularized by an old Frank Sinatra song! He picked up lots of them! In case you’re wondering where I got this idea from, I was searching for some websites on flora (it’s harder than you think. At first I was just getting flower shops!) and I came across: Learn the Flowers which is dedicated to flower quizzing. If you ever want to sharpen up on your flower knowing skills, I highly suggest checking it out: http://www.learn-the-flowers.com/ (Happy quizzing!)
As I progress through my new garden, I will not only learn about new flowers and plants, but also learn about how to plant them, what time of year they grow in and how much water they will need. I will also continue my guessing game, but I might not even know what the flower or plant is, and I would definitely need your help, fellow bloggers! One of my biggest goals is to figure out how to grow my all-time favourite flower, the Gerbera Daisy! I have taken a picture of one and used it in my avatar photo. These flowers look like a cartoon to me, so beautiful that they’re almost surreal! Do you have a flower or plant that does the same effect? If so, let me know. I’m intrigued by what other people think adds not just beauty, but abstract to their garden!
Once I get a handle on flowers and plants, I will then move on to herbs and spices, then fruits and vegetables. At this point, that might be far down the road so I will just stick to flowers and plants first for the next little while. I can’t wait to share my experience with you, but I also can’t wait to get some advice and make new friends along the way. Keep it green!
