I have a story that, while in my head, has a compelling plot and complex characters having interesting conversations. But when I transfer it to paper, the plot becomes clunky, the characters fall flat, and the interactions feel dull and contrived. I don’t know where the disconnect is. I don’t often have this trouble with fanfics, only my original stories. I know you can’t magically diagnose my issue, but I’m worried I’m trying too hard to make a story happen that shouldn't be. Do I keep going?

Yes.

The gulf between the perfect thing in your head and the klunky thing on the page is the battle that every writer worth their salt is facing every day.

A Sailor’s Life:  Jargal was put on a ship when he was old enough to walk, and has been a sailor his entire life. He’s spent most of his existence voyaging between The Ruby Sea and Eorzea, making a name for himself and pledging his service to various naval factions along the way.

The Lominsan Armada:  The Maelstrom is one of the factions that Jargal is pledged to. After getting increasingly close to certain sailors in Vylbrand, and continuous activity in the region, his talent was recognized by one of the high ranking Maelstrom officials, who coaxed Jargal into joining the The Lominsan Armada. Since then, he’s garnered a reputation for himself, and was promoted to a commissioned officer in their ranks. 

I’ll Drink To That:  Jargal is the perfect drinking buddy.  He has the alcohol tolerance of a goliath, and many legendary stories to tell.

For Hire: Jargal’s services as a sailor are up for hire. He won’t go to lengths that would break Lominsan law, but there is little he isn’t willing to do when it comes to gaining gold. Plunder ships and territory outside the alliance’s borders? Escort your ship between the seas? Trade runs?  He’s up for it, so long as you have the coin.

Part Of The Kill, Part Of The Gold: Jargal occasionally goes after bounties on men and beasts alike to break up the monotony of diplomatic work. If you’re in this line of work, he could potentially be your partner for the job.

@ftnox drew Narangerel / Narin for me. Narin is ¾ Xaela and ¼ Raen. so she have patches of lighter scales to represent her heritage as a Raen. She embraces both sides of her heritgage but would consider herself more Xaela then Raen. But to add on Nox did a wonderful job and I can’t wait for their commissions to be open again. So I can be like TAKE MY MONEY.
