I would like to add:
Us white women REALLY need to be there for women of colour, especially hijabi women. There’s nothing like a loud, angry white woman as a personal security accessory to put off racist aggressors, who often use similar tactics to those mentioned above and often like to target lone femme presenting victims. This is an open offer to all WOC and hijabi women that I know. If they need an escort I will be the human equivalent of a yappy purse dog if it helps keep them safe.

Hey y’all in case you don’t know there’s going to be a YouTube walkout happening from December 10th-13th in response to the new terms and agreements YouTube put in place. According to the new terms they’re allowed to delete channels if they don’t meet community guild lines, which historically for them has included LGBT related channels and content.
Many creators are not posting during this walkout and is asking for people not to use YouTube unless it’s related to the UK election (if you live the UK and still want to participate in the walkout but need to use YouTube to stay on top of election info I think there’s a UK one from the 13th-16th too!)
Anyway fuck those new terms and I’m gonna be deleting my YouTube app on my phone until the 16th.

honestly you dont fucking realize how rampant intersexism is until you are actually visibly intersex to the public. cis perisex people will never understand the alienation of having to be labelled as one thing but presenting that thing in an unconventional way. even if i wasnt trans, i would still be growing facial hair. i would be a cisgender woman on every document, card, and note, but i would still have facial hair. facial hair that is seen in pictures, from a distance, in a mirror.
intersex people simply being- choosing not to shave or bind or tuck or pack- should not be a radical choice. intersex is not a radical way of living. we are normal and we should be free to exist.

the woody allen thing
In case anybody doesn’t know about Woody Allen:
Woody Allen was accused in 1992 of molesting his girlfriend Mia Farrow’s daughter, Dylan Farrow, when she was seven years old. He later married Soon-Yi Previn, Mia Farrow’s then-teenaged daughter. He was Mia’s children’s father figure for many years.
This case is extremely controversial for a lot of reasons, but I’ll just list some of the facts:
source 1 - source 2 - source 3 - source 4
Dylan’s claims have been consistent her entire life. She said that the molestation began when Woody Allen took her into the attic of Mia Farrow’s home.
Woody Allen had been in therapy for “inappropriate behavior” with a child psychologist before the abuse allegations were ever presented to the authorities or made public.
Seven-year-old Dylan Farrow’s pediatrician was the one who first reported the molestation to the police.
Allen initially said that he had never been in the attic where the molestation allegedly took place, but his hair was found in the attic, so he changed his story and said that he had been in the attic just a few times. The investigation later concluded that his account of that day was not credible.
Ronan Farrow, one of Dylan’s brothers, who today is the journalist who wrote the infamous Harvey Weinstein exposé that helped spark the #MeToo movement in Hollywood, has said that he remembers witnessing Allen “climbing into her [Dylan’s] bed in the middle of the night” and “forcing her to suck his thumb.”
Three other adults besides Allen were present in the Farrow home the day Dylan was molested. A babysitter told police and gave sworn testimony that Allen and Dylan went missing for 15 to 20 minutes. Another babysitter told police and also swore in court that on that same day, she saw Allen with his head in Dylan’s lap facing her body, while Dylan sat on a couch “staring vacantly in the direction of a television set.” The third adult, a tutor, told police and testified that on that day, she’d found that Dylan was not wearing underpants under her sundress after disappearing with Allen.
Multiple employees of the family testified that Dylan used to be terrified of Allen, and that Dylan once locked herself in a bathroom for four hours when Allen came over to their house.
Allen refused to take a polygraph administered by the police during all four court cases about Dylan’s molestation. Allen lost all of these cases.
In his 33-page decision, Judge Elliott J. Wilk found that Allen’s behavior toward Dylan was “grossly inappropriate and that measures must be taken to protect her.”
You can read Judge Wilk’s full original court ruling here.
Woody Allen was never prosecuted in a criminal trial - some claim he was never prosecuted because there was no evidence, but the state attorney, Frank Maco, said publicly that there was probable cause to press charges against Allen for child molestation, but declined to do so due to “the fragility of the child victim” and the toll the trial process would’ve taken on her.
Read Dylan’s story, in her own words, here.
Woody Allen has famously said about his relationship with Soon-Yi: “I was paternal. She responded to someone paternal. […] I was happy to give her an enormous amount of decision-making, just as a gift.”
So, here’s a list of celebrities who love Woody Allen, worked with him, and/or have defended him:
Jeff Goldblum — defended him
Kirsten Stewart — repeatedly defended him
Cate Blanchett — defended him
Stephen King — called Dylan a “bitch” after her 2014 article was posted
Emma Stone — worked with him post-2014 and expressed her love for him/his work
Blake Lively — worked with him post-2014 and said that Woody Allen is “empowering to women”
Kate Winslet — defended him and said: “I think on some level Woody is a woman. I just think he’s very in touch with that side of himself.”
Jesse Eisenberg — expressed his love for Woody Allen and has worked with him, both post-2014
Richard Ayoade — repeatedly called Woody Allen one of the greatest directors of all time and implied “art” is more important than real life victims
Diego Luna — worked with him post-2014 and has said he doesn’t regret it
Javier Bardem — defended him
Diane Keaton — defended him
Adrien Brody — defended him
Scarlett Johannson — repeatedly defended him, and has been called his #1 fan
Zach Kornfeld (of the Try Guys) — said he loves Woody Allen (post 2014)
Alec Baldwin — defended him
Louis CK — defended him
Miley Cyrus — worked with him post-2014
Selena Gomez — worked with him post-2014
Elle Fanning — worked with him post-2014
Justin Timberlake — worked with him post-2014
Jude Law — worked with him post-2014
People who worked with him before Dylan’s 2014 article which made the case much more well known, and have made no comment for or against Allen since:
Owen Wilson, Tom Hiddleston, Larry David, Meryl Streep, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Hugh Jackman.
And here’s a list of celebrities who worked with Woody Allen but later regretted doing so, or have publicly said that they support Dylan Farrow:
Susan Sarandon — said “He sexually assaulted a child” on stage at Cannes
Ellen Page — called working with Allen “the biggest regret of my career” and said she supports Dylan
Natalie Portman — said that she supports Dylan, that men should support and believe female victims “not because you have a daughter, not because you have a wife or a sister, […] but because we’re human beings,” and is also one of the only celebrities to say she regrets signing the Roman Polanski petition
Reese Witherspoon — said she supports Dylan
Shonda Rhimes — said she supports Dylan
Oprah Winfrey — led a discussion about Woody Allen and Time’s Up and supporting Dylan
Hayley Atwell — “I stand in solidarity with his daughter and offer an apology to her if my contribution to his work has caused her suffering or made her feel dismissed in any way. It’s exciting that I can say this now and I’m not going to be blacklisted.” (Atwell’s first film, in 2007, was a Woody Allen film)
Michael Caine — “I’m a patron of the NSPCC [National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children] and have very strong views about pedophilia. I can’t come to terms with it, because I loved Woody and had a wonderful time with him. I even introduced him to Mia. I don’t regret working with him [in 1986; five years before the first allegations], which I did in complete innocence; but I wouldn’t work with him again, no.”
Freida Pinto — said she would not work with Allen again, “Because I don’t know how some people can get away with it.”
Colin Firth — said he would not work with Allen again
Evan Rachel Wood — said she would not work with Allen again
Timothée Chalamet — expressed regret for working on a Woody Allen film and pledged his salary from the film to RAINN, Time’s Up, and the LGBT Center in New York
Greta Gerwig — “If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film. I have not worked for him again, and I will not work for him again. Dylan Farrow’s two different pieces made me realize that I increased another woman’s pain, and I was heartbroken by that realization.”
Rebecca Hall — said she regrets working with Allen, and: “My actions have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed.” She also donated her salary to Time’s Up.
David Krumholtz — said “I deeply regret working with Woody Allen on Wonder Wheel. It’s one of my most heartbreaking mistakes. We can no longer let these men represent us in entertainment, politics, or any other realm.”
Griffin Newman — said he “believes Allen is guilty,” regrets working with him, and called himself a coward for not quitting the film he worked on with Allen
Peter Sarsgaard — said he would not work with Allen again
Mira Sorvino — wrote an open letter to Dylan, saying: “I cannot begin to imagine how you have felt, all these years as you watched someone you called out as having hurt you as a child, a vulnerable little girl in his care, be lauded again and again, including by me and countless others in Hollywood who praised him and ignored you. As a mother and a woman, this breaks my heart for you. I am so, so sorry.”
Joaquin Phoenix — said he had no idea about Dylan’s letter when he worked with Allen in 2014, but: “If you were a part of supporting something with someone that did, in fact, cause pain, how the fuck would you feel? You’d feel shitty.”
Marion Cotillard — said that if she were asked to work with him again, she would do much more research and that before working with him in 2011, she had not heard of his allegations

To be fair, this isn’t an exclusively american thing. I can’t speak for other christian denominations but I was raised catholic (not in the usa), and food was huge. Every sunday after mass there’d be an afternoon tea type thing in the hall. And when I say afternoon tea I don’t mean a few sandwiches and a biscuit. I mean four women running a non stop tea and coffee service, with a couple more running in and out of the hall kitchen to replenish dishes on a small armada of ancient fold down tables. Lots of people brought something, and often they brought so much it took multiple large serving dishes to hold it all. ANY meeting of ANY group associated with the church would have at the very least tea and coffee, usually slices, sandwiches, and biscuits as well.
I’m also pretty sure that any nice leftover (we’re talking stuff that doesn’t look like the leavings on somebody’s place) went to the food bank to go out as soon as possible. The women running the kitchen would usually push covered dishes with whichever foods were left that wouldn’t keep as well on any stragglers who hadn’t left towards the end.
When my grandfather died there were dozens of cooked meals that appeared. It’s a very brittish thing too (I’m half brittish). You bring food to help others, even if it’s all you can do. You share food to bond with others.
It’s also a HUGE thing in Te ao Maori (the indigenous culture here). Sharing food is a major element not just of hospitality but of community. Hangi is a traditional Maori style of cooking (and it’s gloriously tasty I might add), and it’s often used in special events, to welcome, educate, celebrate, mourn, and be together. If you do something centred around Maori people, food is expected, it’s just part of the culture. Once upon a time, your Mana (honour, spiritual status, authority, there’s no direct translation) was influenced by your ability to give gifts to others, especially in return for gifts they gave to you. This wasn’t limited to food, but it would be considered incredibly bad form not to feed guests to a marae (meeting place of the local iwi (tribe) which includes a meeting house, dining area, and sometimes adjacent burial places and other buildings and important places) though food is not taken into the meeting house itself.
The restaurant-portion-leftovers element is not such a big thing over here to my knowledge though, and sending leftovers home with guests after a meal varies a lot depending on how well you know them. The better you know them the more likely you are to send leftovers home with them. The sharing of baked goods is more common than leftovers after a meal. Sharing a box of home made biscuits or a cake or a slice is common. My brittish grandparents would arrive to stay with us and they’d bring a literal suitcase full of baked goods (my Nana was a pastry chef), AND they’d bake more while they were there.
Breaking bread together is a basic human thing. It’s baked into our cultures the world over. It just takes different forms.
It’s also one of the reasons I love cooking with people. And why I like making big dinners with friends. It’s such a foundation level element of our humanity.
Note to vacationing non-Americans: while it’s true that America doesn’t always have the best food culture, the food in our restaurants is really not representative of what most of us eat at home.  The portions at Cheesecake Factory or IHOP are meant to be indulgent, not just “what Americans are used to.”
If you eat at a regular American household, during a regular meal where they’re not going out of their way to impress guests, you probably will not be served twelve pounds of chocolate-covered cream cheese.  Please bear this in mind before writing yet another “omg I can’t believe American food” post.
