vacation notice;

wait, wha, didn’t you just get back from vacation?! yeah, i did, but this time it’s for a good reason. i’m going for a camp on 15th to 17th June at a place where wi-fi doesn’t exist, so literally i will not be here or on any social media or discord at all. which is good, because social media has tired me out and i just need to be closer to earth and nature for good vibes again.

Edwin had already gathered them in, a good ten-inch in the stack placed heavily onto the table and a breath of relief from him as he straightened his back. Getting a little too old for manual labour, he found, yet still so much work to do as his master was working his way up Stark Industries. Wasn’t he just a butler though?

It was given that Edwin had served long enough in the household to have watched the older genius inventory become married, and then the younger one to grow into his adulthood. He couldn’t count the number of times he had to be tending to reckless injuries, even stitching them up when they didn’t favour the doctor, which was precisely what he was doing now to his master.

          “I could scarcely believe that a robot could fix you up like I do.           They lack flexible, steady hands.”

Because coming in every morning with all sorts of curiosities ( mostly pieces of metal which Edwin could not understand ) strewn all over the bedroom floor simply was not all fun to the butler who would be adamant to organize them by shape and size. How long had it been, a year? He sighed, treading over them carefully towards the window to open the curtains and allow sunlight to stream in.

At first, James looked a little suspiciously at the man in front of him. He couldn’t help to do that. Unfortunately, it was a bad habit he ended up getting back after the war. But soon after, he gave a friendly smile and got up from his chair to greet his future customer.

“Good morning sir. I’m James Barnes, private detective at your service. Please take a sit, and tell me how can I help you?”

Sergeant Barnes appeared much different from the photograph Edwin had been shown prior to the visit-----he thought it might have to do with the uniform. Not that the suit did not look good on him, very stunning in fact, but there was something in his behaviour that did still scream war. Everyone in this era did. Edwin returned the smile, taking the seat he was offered.

          “It’s a bit embarrassing, you see---I mean, it was entirely           my fault for taking my eyes away when I should have kept           a close watch. A woman had made away with a set of pearl           jewelry that belonged to my employer, and I had been to the           apartment where she purportedly stayed in, but her landlord           said that she had left and there wasn’t a way to contact her.           I was hoping you will help recover the jewelry, they are very,           very expensive.”

To be fair, he really had thought he had planned everything out and that there would be no problems when he turned on his robot for the first time. He hadn’t even build it in his room and kept it strictly in his fathers workshop. With Howards permission of course. He had asked his father to use it even in his absence and today had been such a day. His father was at Stark Industries and he had wandered down to finish his project. Now however he was sitting in utter darkness. Looked like he had managed to shortcut the electricity in the house….again.

Tony winced lightly when he heard Jarvis’ voice from above. Smiling sheepishly he wandered upstairs only to meet him in the hall. “Sorry Jarvis. I swear it was an accident. I am sure we can turn on the power easily again.” He blinked. “You…weren’t doing something important at the moment…right?”

The cake was sinking by the second as it sat in the powerless oven, for all that Edwin’s keen eyes could see and mourn over his dying product. He looked up upon hearing his young employer coming up for his due apology and explanation, both of which Edwin had heard too many in his lifetime to acknowledge anymore. He sighed, rising to his full height and straightening his apron, clearing his throat to calm himself down.

          “Oh, no, no, nothing important at all, save for a nine-hour           dessert going to the bin in, well, twenty minutes if it doesn’t           get heated up by then.   Could you please start the power           up again this instance?”

He was still utterly desperate after all.

The water had quickly soaked through his clothing causing him to shiver a bit. He was standing near a grocery stor, but was ignoring the strange looks people were giving him. He had been separated from Katya when the men had come to get them. Where she was, he didn’t know and was trying to figure it out but his telepathy couldn’t get a read on her. He was starting to feel frustrated and lost when he heard the man’s voice and turned to see who had spoke. 

He didn’t have to read his mind. It was obvious that the other wasn’t a threat. “I….” He fell silent, unsure if he was lost. He couldn’t go back home less someone was there waiting for him to return and he had no idea were his guardian was. “I am not sure.” He replied, not bothering to try and disguise his heavy Russian accent. “I think so.” 

Russian. Edwin did not hide the little bit of surprise on his face, for post-war had been keeping everyone on their toes concerning several entities outside the United States of America. Not that he wanted to be concerned, as he himself was harbouring one foreigner he helped illegally escape demise for a simple reason as love. This one appeared fairly young too, and his answer was of much concern.

          “Well, that is still no cause to be standing around in the rain           catching a cold. Is there a place you are looking to be at? I           frequent the roads often in my employment, I may know           where your destination might be. Otherwise, I believe a cup           of hot tea should be in order for you.”
