Jason: yeah um.. please leave me alone, E
Thinking about timeline wise, how Mal running away would've really fucked Lilly up.
I mean cmon one day you and your best friend are in first year of high-school, seemingly having a great time and you wake up the next morning to the police wanting to question you about her dissapearance/run away and she never told you anything was wrong, so your BFF is just fucking gone.
And as years pass, you think maybe she ran away because of you because she never told you about anything that went on in her life and what she was going through, so it had to be your fault, right? And you just know she's alive, despite everyone telling you your best friend is probably fucking dead.
And then you meet this (seemingly) great guy who's captain of the football team and really sweet and you start dating, but he tells you his friends don't like the way you dress, so the issues of You being the problem in relationships comes up again because her BFF going missing is still her fault and that's what her brain tells her. So Lilly does whatever he wants just to make sure she doesn't get left again and ultimately it leads to her demise.
Now imagine Mal putting all that trauma together when she's talking to Jason (against her own will or something) and he tells Mal how devastated Lilly was and how she never really got over it.
And then imagine Mal just wondering how Lilly was never even angry at her.
:) happy birthday.

Jason: you didn't know... how could you? You met me when I was my mom and dad's golden boy who bought people candy for their birthday. I didn't necessarily give off those vibes. Then you left, and you thought she was safe.
