Fawn did some grouse hunting this afternoon!! I have been trying to figure it out in my own since I hadn't trained fawn to hunt at all, but figured I give her some exercise. She seems to figure it out super quick flushing multiple birds and even "retrieving" them too! Successful Montana antelope hunt!! It makes me feel old but it's been almost 20 years since I hunted Montana pronghorn. One of my favorite species to hunt and eat. Lake Trout on the fly! We landed over 20 lake trout trolling our fly rods with full sinking lines. Some were in as shallow as 5' of water, and others were suspended over 100'. Big pikes! This was such a cool fish. After throwing for smallmouth most of the morning we saw a deeper bay that looked "pikey" we switched rods and started throwing big flies with wire leaders. Within 5 minutes I had a bump and threw right back in. Another Quetico Smallmouth on the fly! We found a honey hole and got out of the canoe to do some casting. A 21" smallmouth came to hand shortly after a 20" largemouth, and followed by a handful of 18s and 19s. EPIC Day of Steelhead Fishing! Great day on the river catching great lakes steelhead. Brian and Don had never caught a steelhead before and they ended up putting 10 in the net!

On the way to the river my client asked "are there any northerns where we are going?" I said theres a chance we could catch a small one, or a catfish, or a walleye, but most likely we'll just be catching smallmouth bass. We'll it didn't take him long to hook a couple of nice bass... then a big pike... and then a big catfish. "well you might as well go for the slam and catch a walleye now" I said. I tied on a new fly I had just tied that looked like something a walleye would eat, and within 5 minutes he hooked another fish. Huh I wonder what that could be... 😂 . ✔️ Smallmouth bass ✔️ Northern Pike ✔️ Catfish ✔️ Walleye .
