As someone whose job consisted of mainly of talking, he didn’t mind the man’s chatter. “That basically just means you’re going on an adventure everytime you try to find a place, nothing wrong with that.” A small smile tugged at his lips. With a casual wave of his hand, he motioned for him to follow him. His steps were confident, nothing there to betray the lingering nervousness. “Oh, by the way, the name’s Nate, Nate Prince.” He glanced behind him with fake casualness. The weirdo was still there, but he seemed a little more hesitant, like he was trying harder to stay hidden. His new friend was throwing him off a little, it seemed.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Jason.” He had started trying to say his last name less. He really didn’t want people to look into him and find out why he had come here. He was trying to start over and cover his tracks and maybe making a friend would be one step closer to completing that goal. Hopefully this guy hadn’t found him too odd yet and was looking for a way to ditch him.

If he was more of a cynical asshole, he might have reminded him that navigation apps existed, but he wouldn’t. Not everyone had a smartphone or even knew how they worked. As it was, his temporary lack of a sense of direction was more endearing than annoying.
The stranger’s attempt at pointing out a location attracted a snort. “I could take you there,” he offered. “I would have passed it anyway.” The idea of leading him even more astray was hilarious and tempting, but Nate was too grateful to act on it. Another time, another person, maybe. ‘Sides, it might be good to drag his little follower all the way to a library. Perhaps he’d find a book on boundaries and how to act like a normal person.
“That would be great thanks.” Jason smiled, he would have eventually found his way but he actually wanted to get there not in like an hour so that he could actually make food to eat and not order take out for the third time this week. “I’m just really bad with directions and I know a cop shouldn’t be since I should know where things are but I guess it’s like my achilles’ heel.” and now he was rambling, why couldn’t he just be like a normal person who knew how to talk to others when he wasn’t at work.

Ah, so he was a stranger not just to him, but also to the town. Maybe that was the reason why he wasn’t antagonizing him, he just didn’t know that that was the favorite past time of some of his colleagues yet. Or, more likely, he did know and was just genuinely nice, which explained why he was helping him. Either way Nate was extremely grateful. He actually had a cop on his side for once!
“I feel that. Are you finding your way around alright? I know that I felt like I was dropped into a maze when I first got here.” His voice was amicable. “Let me know if you want to grab some food sometime — my treat. I know a few good places.” He wondered whether this was what humans felt like when they were in the presence of a police officer, a certain feeling of safety, despite his little bigot follower standing nearby.
“I actually could use some directions.” While he had gotten better at remembering where everything was and where he was compared to them. He still wasn’t 100% on where everything was. He knew where the major landmarks were but that was about it. He thought he had known where he was but he had gotten turned around.
“I thought the library was over there but I was wrong.” He said pointing in the absolute wrong direction possible. “And now I kind of don’t know how to get back there.”

The stack of books in her hands was something that Gianna had not even realized was in her home until she had started cleaning her daughters room and noticed all the library books had piled up. She was certain that there was going to be some kind of fee for them being so late but she was more than willing to pay it if it came down to that. As she rounded the corner, she was soon met by a person as the some of the books fell off the stack to the ground with soft thuds. “Oh my goodness, I feel like I should be asking you the same thing. Please tell me that a book didn’t hit you in the face because if it did I’m going to feel absolutely horrible. —I, however, am okay so you don’t have to worry about that,” she paused, turning slightly as she looked at the books on the floor, “Hopefully the librarian doesn’t mind a bit of dirty on those.”
“It didn’t.” Jason said looking down at all the books that had fallen. He hadn’t meant for that to happen. He hoped that they weren’t ruined in anyway, he could maybe pay her back depending on how much they cost. If they were in any way rare books, he was probably screwed. “I hope they’re okay, I can pay if they’re not.” The library wouldn’t charge him that much, would they? Bending down, he started picking up some of the books.

diannaarmstrong:
Dianna had two mugs of black coffee in her hands. While she wasn’t a fan of the gendered stereotypes as one of the women in the precinct getting coffee for the men, she did want to make the new officer feel welcomed. Whether he was human, supernatural, alien, or a stalk of corn, everyone needed a warm welcome in a new place. Shadow Falls was a small, tangled community. A new police officer had a lot to learn and fast.
Unfortunately, the man she was trying to welcome ran right into her, spilling the coffee over the mugs and onto both of them. Dianna gasped softly in surprise and took a few steps back. “Yes, hon, I’m fine,” she sighed before giving him a small smile. “No use crying over spilled coffee. You’re the new officer, right?” she asked, handing him now a half-emptied cup of coffee. “I was just bringing this over to your desk. Definitely have room for cream now.”
“I am so sorry.” Jason apologized again. God, he was so awkward, why did he have to stop paying attention. “Oh god, did you spill on yourself, let me go get a napkin.” He knew that there was probably some on him as well but he caused the accident so the coffee was his fault anyways. “I’m Jason by the way.” He introduced himself as he look for the napkins he knew that he had somewhere.

Nate wasn’t Luck’s favorite, but Misfortune adored him. Which was why it came as no surprise to him that the man he had randomly picked out turned out to be a police officer, the very type of person he was trying to avoid. There were no colored contacts to hide what he was, his pitch-black eyes were on full display and cast to the side. He swallowed, bracing himself for the inevitable rejection and derision —
But it didn’t come. It would have been anti-climatic if he wasn’t so relieved. Within seconds his face went from resignation to surprise and ended on gratefulness. Not only did he believe him, he actually agreed to help him. It was an unknown feeling. Taking a sharp breath to compose himself, he did his best to fall back into the role of a friend. It shouldn’t be too hard, his job consisted of talking at people. “I’ve been phenomenal,” he replied good-naturedly, drawing out every syllable. “Well, people still keep calling the station about the cure, as if I had any knowledge about that — Just because I was the news presenter that day doesn’t mean I know anything.” He shook his head. “What about you though? Everything alright?”
Oh right, the cure that was a thing that Jason had been trying to forget about. He knew if he was ever found out, not just as a witch but what he had done he could be the first on the government list to receive it. He wasn’t stupid, he knew that if any undeclared supernaturals were caught they would be given the cure as punishment. He had to make sure that he wasn’t caught ever.
“Yeah just still trying to get used to the town.” Work was the same no matter where it was, same routine every time. He hoped that there wasn’t another Richard that he would have to be around, he couldn’t deal if there was. “It’s interesting here.” He wasn’t used to all the supernaturals around, his home town was mostly human.

With an ice coffee in her hands, Sophie’s eyes had been glued to her cell phone as she looked through a chain of messages that had been sent to her by her partner for the day about something that was completely irrelevant to the case she was working on. But they were entertaining to say the least. But as she bumped into someone, her head soon snapped up from surprise yet a smile spread on her face as the detective found herself face to face with one of the newbies to SFPD. “Don’t worry, dude, I’m much stronger than I look,” she teased softly as she tucked her phone into the pocket of her jean jacket, “I would have probs been more upset if you had made me drop my coffee or my phone since they’re both basically what I need to survive. —Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m okay.” He had just run into one of the detectives from the precinct. Oh god, he was in so much trouble. How could he have not been paying attention to actually run into someone, someone that could totally get in him in trouble. It was also the fact that he couldn’t remember her name, he knew that they had been introduced to each other but her name was escaping him at the moment. God, he was going to make a fool of himself, he just hoped it wouldn’t be too much. “I didn’t see you there, sorry.”

With her eyes glued to the small stack of Polaroids in her hands, Nova really should have been paying attention to the fact that there was people around her since she was soon walking straight into someone which made her photos fall out of her hands and all over the ground. A frown sparked onto her lips at the display before she looked up at the man, soon forcing her lips into a timid smile instead. “I-I’m fine actually. I.. uhm.. I should have p-probably been paying more attention instead of acting like, uhm, like I’m the only person on this p-planet but it… it is what it is,” she commented as she crouched down to begin picking up her polaroids. “I-I… Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, are you?” Jason asked bending down to help the girl pick up her photos. He hoped that none of them had gotten ruined, he was pretty sure this wasn’t something that was easily replaced and he didn’t know how he would make it up to this girl if they were. He also hoped that he hadn’t screwed anything else up for this girl, she seemed really nervous and hopefully it wasn’t because of him.

nate-princeofstrays:
Nate wasn’t in a good place right now, but no one could blame him, because he was being followed by a weirdo. At first he had assumed that this was just another case of the ol’ enthrall, no big deal. Just some dude who had fallen under his unholy Incubus spell and didn’t know how to express the feeling of enamorment. Oh, if only. As soon as he had tried to confront him, the man had shrieked about being threatened by a supernatural. So not an enthralled person then, Nate had thought as he had legged it out of sheer fight-or-flight, just some bigot.
As most of his past tormentors (fuck them, by the way) would be happy to confirm, Nate was not someone easily cowed. In fact, most methods of intimidation just didn’t work on him, unless you threatened someone he cared about. Which was exactly why he couldn’t go home — he lived with children and did not want this jerk to get anywhere close to them. And he couldn’t go to the police either, because he doubted they would see his side on it, if his experience was anything to go by. To them he was just a lying Incubitch hurting for attention.
Gods, he could use a hug.
Stopping in his tracks, he glanced around for anything he could use as a deterrent. It was then that he spotted a person nearby and he didn’t hesitate to force a big smile on his face as he approached them. “Hey, buddy! Didn’t expect to see you here!” With his back now to the man watching him from a distance, the beam faded. “Sorry. I know this is weird for you,” he continued in a rapid whisper. “But would you pretend to be my friend for a bit? I’m being followed by someone, but I think he’ll leave if I’m not alone anymore.” He didn’t want to deal with bigots, he didn’t want to pull strangers into this, he wanted to go home.
Jason had just gotten off work, he had gotten less lost today so he counted that as an improvement. But he was just so tired, he hadn’t bothered changing out of his uniform just thrown his usual jacket on and grabbed his bag. Hopefully this would be a least a little deterrent from people bothering him or if someone really needed help, he at least would look the part.
“Hey?” He asked confused, Jason knew that he didn’t know this person. He didn’t know enough people in town to have forgotten someone already. Listening to the other’s explanation of why he approached him, Jason felt the fire he tried to desperately to control try to rise up. No he could not let himself loose control ever again and hopefully this situation was not what he thought it was. Just a misunderstanding.
“So how have you been?” He asked keeping an eye on the person that had been following this guy. Jason would not, could not, let this situation get out of hand.

torresjake:
In lieu of an answer, Jake gave a little nod just before he started to cough again. H then, once more, tried to cover his coughs by clearing his throat, but it worked to no avail. It was obvious that he was sick. Not sick enough to go to the hospital yet, but sick enough that anyone would a good eye – and a good set of ears – would notice that he was not in his best condition. When was he ever, truly, though?
“One could say I have a knack for not taking care of myself,” he replied, laughing a little as if it was some joke. And it was, in a weird sort of way. But the other man seemed worried, and that alone was enough to make Jake stop smiling, if only just for a moment.
“Seriously, I’m fine! It’s all good. I was, um, just on my way to the library actually.” Cue another cough, and then another. “It’s a great day for a walk. I - I mean, the weather isn’t great, because that’s why I’m coughing. Clearly not because I’m sick. Would you want to walk with me, if you’re not in a hurry to go somewhere?” It was a bold request, even for someone he had just met, but Jake had the sense that the man wouldn’t rest until he knew Jake was alright. He just seemed like that sort of person.
“Of course, It’s my job to help anyways.” Jason said giving the other a small smile. Plus this was a way to get unlost hopefully, without him having to admit it out loud. That would just be embarrassing, he was a cop so he should know his way around town. That was like step one of being a cop, don’t get lost on the job well that and don’t abuse your power. Taking a deep breath, Jason took a deep breath, he shouldn’t think of that. It was just a recipe for disaster and he didn’t need that in his life again.
“Wait, Library are you going for fun or are you trying to go to work sick.” Okay he could understand working sick since money was always something you needed. But he was pretty sure that Bronchitis was contagious and that was just dangerous to go to work with.

elsavlkyrie:
It was a quiet afternoon, quiet and dull. It was exactly what Elisabeth needed after the long nights at the bars.As she strolled through town, she kept to herself and her thoughts. A bad place to be, especially when dwelling on the past from centuries ago. The thoughts kept her distant from her surroundings and she found herself colliding with someone.
Irritable was the best way to describe Elisabeth in this state of mind. After a moment to focus back on reality, eyes darted up to the male. While her frazzled mind try to string together an insult, she caught a glimpse of the man’s outfit. A cop? Even she knew better than to pick fights with law enforcement, especially if she wanted to keep low profile for as long as possible.
The blonde stood up straight, head held high. Her lips were pressed into a fine line as she glared up at him. “I’m fine.” She tried to keep her voice calm although now outwardly appearing as such. “And you, officer?” She knew the kid did not deserve the bitterness, she was distracted herself. Yet Elisabeth would never admit a wrong.
“I’m okay.” He said trying not to flinch at the way she had said officer. He hated hearing people not be okay with cops though he knew it some cases it was the right thing. He had seen first hand what a dirty cop could accomplish and how it affected the people who were supposed to be protected by them. Richard had been one of them, though he was gone now. Jason knew his mark would be on that community for a long time. So maybe he should try to let that notion go because if anyone found of what he did, they would act the same around him.
“Actually I am a little bit lost.” He said giving her a small smile. Hopefully she would want to help him or at least could just tell him where he was and he might be able to figure out where to go from there. Probably not, but there was always hope.

Mattie seemed to have a bad habit of running around and not pay attention. She was thankful her head wasn’t buried in her phone this time. Yet with headphones on and her mind elsewhere, staying out of trouble seemed unavoidable. She stumbled backwards with a gasp.
“Oh crud. Are you okay?” Wide eyes scanned over the male in front of her. At least he was on his feet, and it did not look like he spilled anything on himself. This may be a record for the tamest run-in with someone. She took her headphone off and signed. “I’m so sorry. I don’t know what’s wrong with me today.” An awkward laugh slipped through her lips as she realized who she ran into. She knew she was going to be in trouble after all. “I’m fine, don’t worry about me. Happens all the time. Are you sure you’re okay?”
“No it’s my fault, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.” This was a horrible way to make a first impression just crashing into someone. At least he didn’t have anything to spill on her and she didn’t have any either, that would have been even worse than it already was.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” He said rubbing the back of his neck. He really didn’t want to admit that he was lost especially since he was technically on the job and who really would believe that he, a cop, was actually lost in the town he was supposed to be working in. But if he didn’t ask this girl, he knew he wouldn’t ask anyone else. He hated starting conversations with people he didn’t know and he knew close to zero people in this town. “Though I am a little lost.”

Jake, now realizing that the man standing in front of him was a cop, gave an embarrassed chuckle. He knew he wasn’t dressed to the nines with his current choice of attire; what with the dark choice of clothing, the sick mask and the hoodie he had on, he might’ve as well had stayed at home. But he didn’t want to. He wanted to go back to work.
“Yes, yeah – I’m, er. Yes.” He felt awkward now. Not knowing how to act around police officers (or just people in general, usually), Jake attempted another smile, which, once again, was obscured by the mask he wore.
“I’m fine. It’s just bronchitis. But, honestly, I feel great. Better than great. Superb, even.” He coughed again, but tried to mask it by clearing his throat. “It’s just, uh. It’s the weather. Makes me cough alot.”
“Bronchitis.” Jason said trying to hold in his instincts but failing spectacularly. He really couldn’t help himself, he cared about people way too much for him to be able to walk away from people in need. He was trying to fix that since it was what had caused him to flee to Shadow Falls in the first place but he hadn’t really started on it yet.
“Then why are you outside? You should be in bed.” Really why was this guy outside if he was sick, did he want to die? Okay Jason knew he was overreacting but he really couldn’t help himself, at least he hadn’t said that part out loud that would have been really embarrassing

torresjake:
There was an art to being invisible, Jake thought. Take a simple hat, a large hoodie, and a pair of dark pants, as well as a sick mask to complete the look, and Jake was ready to go. Sure, he’d just accustomed himself to being around people, but when sick, he thought it best for others (and for himself) to simply blend in with the crowd.
It wasn’t that he was that sick; he just had a small case of bronchitis. That was all. Antibiotics and cough medicine had been a great help to him, but he had still been given strict rules from his doctor to not go out.
He hadn’t listened.
Now, as he walked down the street and towards the library (where no doubt he would be yelled at again for coming in sick), Jake was suddenly taken aback by someone walking into him. Stumbling back slightly, the brunet blinked a couple of times before finally regaining his balance.
“Yeah - yeah. Don’t worry about it,” he reassured, even as a cough burst free from him. Wincing slightly, he looked to the person again, trying for a reassuring smile (but no doubt failing due to the mask hiding most of his features) and said, “It’s my mistake, really. I just – I get so distracted. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Just wasn’t really paying attention.” Jason said stepping back and looking at the guy he had ran into. He had an interesting outfit on, and Jason could totally see how he missed noticing that there was someone in front of him. It seemed like the guy was trying to be as inconspicuous as possible and Jason possibly ruined that, however if he was dressed this way to commit a crime, well hopefully Jason had dissuaded him.
“Are you okay?” He asked after hearing the other cough. “Should you be outside?” And there was mother hen mode activated, he really couldn’t stop himself from trying to help anyone in need no matter the consequences. He hoped that there wouldn’t be any here.

gracexkline:
Grace had just gotten off her shift at Madame Zeroni’s and was walking back to her apartment when she heard someone call out. She didn’t see anyone around at first before turning and spotting him. She stopped, watching his expression for a moment. Honestly, he seemed a little lost.
“Are you talking to me?” Grace asked him as she lifted a hand to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear. The look on his face reminded her a little of the one she wore when first arriving in Shadow Falls. The culture shock between small town North Carolina and New York City was pretty jarring for her. “Do you need help or something?”
“Uh yeah.” Jason nodded approaching the girl.”I just got transferred here and I know where exactly nothing is.” Transferred, why would he use that word did he want to sound like a complete cop. Okay so he was a cop but that wasn’t always the best first impression to give someone. “I was trying to figure out where everything was so I wouldn’t get lost and then I got lost.” Because of course that would be his luck with the way his life had been going lately he was stupid to not think otherwise.
“So uh do you think you could help me?” He asked rubbing the back of his neck. He really didn’t want to spend the rest of today wandering around and not actually learning anything about this town. If he was going to hopefully stay here for a while he needed to not get lost constantly.

alisonhashart:
Growing up, Alison had always had her nose in a book. For a little girl stuck in a broken home, it had been her method of escapism. At least, until the hormones and small town boredom took over and she rarely found herself at home anyway. That had come with its own avalanche of problems, but she’d never really returned to that pure love of stories. So when she found herself at the public library, printing out articles on all the different methods of getting a full night’s sleep (because she was a broke nursing student with a limited data plan) she found herself perusing the fiction section in an effort to get back to those roots.
With at least twenty pages of hope in the form of articles from Google tucked between two new books, Alison was feeling a little more prepared to tackle this sleeping problem she was having. And, if she was being honest, she was kind of excited to start reading again. She didn’t exactly have the time for it, but even as she walked, her eyes were drawn again and again to the summary on the inside sleeve. So it probably shouldn’t have come as a shock to her as she collided with someone on the sidewalk, the papers and books flying out of her hands as she fought to simply stay upright.
“I gotta stop meeting people like this,” she joked, brushing herself off before kneeling and trying to gather up her things before they blew away and shrugged off his concern. “I’m pretty sure I’ll live. I wasn’t looking where I was going.” She frowned as one of the pieces of paper submerged itself in a puddle. “But it looks like we might have some casualties after all.”
“I am so sorry.” Jason apologized again bending down to help the girl pick up her books and papers. “It’s my fault, I wasn’t paying attention.” He really needed to get his spacing out under control but things were still distracting and he was still sort of lost.
“Shit, I’m sorry.” He apologized again once he saw that some of her papers were ruined. “I hope those weren’t important.” That would have just been the icing on the cake if they were. Not only did he run into her but he also might have ruined something important and he was trying to actually be careful.

It was his first day on the job and as much as he loved being a cop, he hated today. He still didn’t really know where anything was and he knew maybe like the names of 3 people. It was mostly his fault, he could have tried harder but it was too late now. He had been assigned a beat and he had to do his job. There was no way he was going to let anything happen that he could prevent.
But he should have been paying attention to where he was walking as he had just crashed straight into someone. “Oh shit, are you okay?”
