jasper decided to take a seat across from the other, briefly watching as she observed the people around them. "not particularly no, just curious about what's so fascinating about everyone?" he cocks his head, pursing his lips. "can't say there's much more interesting things to do around here... but, eh. this seems even less exciting."

cordelias leg crossed over the other as she sat, she was observing, people watching. mostly she was trying to scout others out, if they were werewolf or siphon to try and bring into the fold. however, now she felt anothers eyes on her and looked up slowly, the gaze between the two connecting. ❝ was there something in particular you needed or? ❞

taking a long drink from his cup, jasper shrugs half heartedly at the other's comment. "maybe more tolerable, don't know about fun." he emphasized as he debated her question for a moment. "nah, don't think it'll do much good for me tonight. thanks."

"town events are always WAY more fun after one of these." dana hummed after proudly rolling a perfect blunt and letting her lips and lungs admire her handiwork, "want a hit?"

again, he takes notice of her response and difficulty she seems to have with looking at him. he nods, offering a short lived, small smile at the brief sound of laughter. he opens his mouth to offer some kind of parting words until she's speaking again. "what do you need help with?" despite his lack of enthusiasm for the tradition, he would be willing to help riley with anything. "i can hang some lanterns, or spot you while you do. or whatever you need help with."

Slowly nodding her head, she could hardly bring her eyes to look up at him. ❝ That’s me. Careful. Oh so careful. ❞ She stated with a slight laugh that fell from her pink lips. She was anything but careful. Between almost falling off to her ‘situation’ in the hospital. ❝ Yeah… okay. ❞ She muttered as her gaze finally looked up to him ❝ I mean if you wanted to help or I don’t know hang around it’s not like I’ll say no. It’s up to you. ❞

jasper shrugged, and let his eyes roll at the commentary about being good for the town. "yeah, thanks. much appreciated."

"No, and it's for the good of the town," he said, repeating the words that Caroline had used on him. "Anyway, everything is open and i'm sure the staff can help you find whatever you need."

"i must have forgotten that i needed a reason to be bored in town versus bored at home." his tone gives way to his sarcasm. he did have a reason, but he wasn't interested in sharing that. "why are you here? seeing as you seem pretty uninterested in the tradition."

It was an easy laugh that came from Kai as he looked to the male. ❝ So... why are you here than? ❞ He questioned about it instead of him being at home or somewhere else.

"riley careful lockwood." he notes playfully, a weak attempt at lightening the awkwardness as he offers a ghost of a smile. given his lineage, it was almost guaranteed that jasper could be prideful in many ways. one of which being his immediate and instinctual reaction to riley ending things. his emphasizing that he was unaffected had only served to leave him feeling guilty after what had happened to her. he takes in her reactions, merely observing. "sounds about right. i'll leave you to it, then."

It was like she could feel her heart doing a million different things. Stopping because it was Jasper but also skipping a beat from the awkwardness that filled the air. She felt bad for ending things but he was better off without her and he seemed like he really didn't care that she ended it. Biting her lip out of her nervous habit she nodded her head when he said great. ❝ Psh.. Careful is my middle name. I mean fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on the ladder? ❞ She questioned as she tried to make light conversation.

he debates questioning the awkwardness that suddenly exists between them. it's a brief thought, refraining from doing so in favor of now shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "great." he nods, looking at the lantern she hung up and then the ladder. "you should be more careful. did you need any help or anything?"

It was like her heart had plummeted to the ground before she heard his voice. She could tell that is was Jasper simply by his smell and the way he felt against her hands as she brushed away some of her hair to look at him and press her lips together. ❝ Me? Oh um, yeah.. yeah perfectly fine. Unmarked and great. ❞ She stated as she muttered her words quickly with a fake stutter before she stood onto the ground and took a couple steps back away from him.

"more people more money, at least in the long term." he nods. the grill being open was the one thing that seemed to make the night tolerable enough, so he wasn't going to complain about it. "potential new customers are never a wasted opportunity."

“I mean, I guess it gets the word out to people in New Orleans,” he said. Given they were doing most of it for free for the town, that would have to be enough for him. Not that he minded. He was happy to help.

his instincts and perceptiveness are the only reason jasper is catching, and steadying, riley and the ladder before she can hit the ground. despite his attempts to ignore and overall avoid the other, he still managed to track her visually throughout the night. "you okay?" a rare moment of genuine concern coming from the blond.

Humming to herself Riley swayed her head back and forth as she lifted up the lantern she was asked to hang up. She didn't mind, she loved helping out and would always say yes to about anyone. Climbing up the later she made the small mistake of having it a little too far away. Reaching out she got it hung but at the price of the latter and herself falling which made her close her eyes waiting for inpact on the ground.

"what a treat." jasper snickered slightly as he said it and tried to keep his sarcasm to a minimum, trying to make the best of a night he wasn't too interested in partaking. "at least you'll be making some sort of revenue from this night. can't complain about that."

"Even though it feels like I got blackmailed into it by my favorite aunt, the Grill is open for today's events," he said, holding the door to the Grill open for customers, making a casual joke about Caroline.

"again, i think you should take your own advice." he repeats his last comment, glancing down at his now empty glass with a sigh. "or, you should be paying more attention to your own surroundings? i was just standing here." he ran his free hand up to rub his temple. "you good?"

“back off dude” the boy snapped as he pocketed his phone, while growling at the other not really in the mood to be talking to anyone. “You ran into me, you need glasses or something?” he questioned as he laughed a little at the other and just shrugged his shoulders a little at the annoyance.

"sorry?" the retort comes a bit too quickly, a flicker of the guilt that grasps his being is shown for a brief moment. his features relax and he chuckles. "when i was young, and a child, actually." he clarifies and takes another drink.

Really this wasn't Kai's scene what-so-ever. This was all a joke or a good way to make a big scene in his mind, but the other part of his mind just thought that it was something special which made his skin crawl. ❝ When you were young and in love or just young? ❞ Kai questioned as he knew that this was his niece's ex-boyfriend.

a fresh shirt and a new drink in hand, jasper took a look around before he decided to take a sip. his brow raises in response to the other's voice. "i might have said that once upon a time." he deadpans with a roll of his eyes, scrunching his nose at the thought. "now not so much."

Nothing about this screamed Kai. Part of it made his skin crawl as he got a chill but another part couldn't help but walk the streets. His might fighting itself as he was about to cast incendio before he heard a voice over his shoulder. ❝ Well isn't all of this just too cute. Wouldn't you say? ❞

jasper wasn't a fan of this tradition. the male hadn't enjoyed the night of illumination since he had grown out of it. still, he found himself stood in the middle of things, all for the sake of having a few drinks. he'd lifted the drink in hand to his lips just to have the contents spill down the front of his shirt in the process of being bumped into. " 'scuse me?" his brows furrow as he questions, head cocking to the side. "i think you should take your own advice."

The young Mikaelson sighed as he answered his phone, while walking the open streets annoyed at the other person on the phone as they didn't show up when they're were supposed to meet. "Why didn't you meet, we had plan and you ruined it" he shouted down the phone, he wasn't really watching where he was going either and suddenly bumped into a hard wall, he shoved his phone back in his pocket and looked up at the thing he bumped into, and sighed when he saw a figure standing in front of him, "Dude watch where the hell you're going" he snapped at the other.
