doctor-durant:
“You flatter me so, you know that?” Thaddeus questioned, their own voice rather quiet. “I could read you anything from these to poetry, or historical texts. Whatever best suits your fancy. I want to make you happy in any way that I’m able to.” They grinned down at their intertwined hands, lifting them up so that they could press a chaste kiss to the back of Jasper’s hand. It was clear to see how apprehensive the cook was in the way he was speaking, but Thadd didn’t let it alter their expression. Any concern they had in this moment was purely to do with Jasper’s well-being. So instead they stood there patiently, watching his face even despite the fact that his eyes had been closed for some seconds. They pulled their hand away from his purely for the sake of bringing both of theirs to cup Jasper’s face on either side. “Please look at me, love,” they requested, tracing gentle patterns on his skin with their thumbs. “I would never hold any ill will towards you or anyone else in a situation like this. So long as you’re happy and healthy, that’s all that matters to me. We can take this in whatever direction you would like, but I do know that I want to be with you, properly. You’re…” They trailed off. ‘The love of my life’ came to mind as soon as they doubled back upon saying it. “You’re important to me, Jasper. And I’ve waited this long.”
Jasper was unable to deny the request when they asked him to look at them. Hazel eyes raised from their spot that he was focusing on the ship floor to Thadd’s. It was his favorite set of eyes to look at and Jasper found himself blushing for no reason at all. That was just how it was when he was around the other, he tended to become a blushy mess that was a bit clumsy. Perhaps it had been because he wanted to find an excuse to see the other whenever he could but now he didn’t even need those excuses to see them. “I do not want to make you wait any longer.” he said softly and a smile started to stretch across his face feeling relaxed at the fact Thadd wasn’t upset at what he told them. Not that Jasper ever thought they would be, he still had been nervous just because what if.
Leaning forward, unable to stop himself he closed the gap between them and stole a quick yet soft kiss to their lips. Pulling back, however, he froze when he realized something important. “Though I should tell you something first, before you decide if you want this with me or not...” It never got easier to say things like this out loud, to talk about his past so openly especially with someone he was starting to love. Yet Jasper knew that he needed to tell them, not to hold this from them if they were going to move onto whatever they were becoming. Thadd deserved to know. “I was married before....it was a matelot situation but we were in love...” a clear to his throat as he tried to keep the tears that were suddenly threatening to spill over, at bay. Unable to look at them as he said this next part, he glanced to the side and whispered, “he died...”

charleshere:
Charles’ lips curved upward. “Friends. Done. I’ll take your word, and give you mine. Help me, and I will help you.” Why not. He had no one he cared to bring back from the dead, so he could offer this man the use of it should they get that far. Jasper’s magic was another welcome surprise. He could use the loyalty of a sorcerer. There were still a series of uncertainties ahead – taking his grimoire back, getting the information he needed from Maeve and the crew – but he didn’t have to mention that. “What’s his name? The man you want back.” Charles fixed his gaze on him, curious. “Must be important to you. Tell me about him.”
The cook visibly relaxed when Charles agreed to help him. A man who was so willing to help him get the man he loved back, couldn’t be so bad right? At least to Jasper that is how he saw it. He may regret it later, could even get in trouble for this but right now his head and his heart was only thinking of one thing-- “Stephen.” Jasper said licking his lips to wet them before a smile stretched across his face. “We were married, he was my matelot but it was not just for the money reasons. Well we said it was for the money but our crew knew better. While he was a horrid pirate, almost as bad as me, he was the love of my life and tended to make people laugh even if they were not feeling happy that day.” He could have spent the whole day talking about the late pirate but knew that Charles probably didn’t want to hear about the way his face crinkled when he smiled or how when he got passionate about something he talked with his hands wildly. “He died when a spell of mine messed up...a death he did not deserve. It is why I want to bring him back.”

kalixus:
Without hesitation , Kalix began to laugh like he used to. At first he snorted whilst shaking his head at Jasper’s smart-ass comment , then he chuckled without the intention to manipulate or to fool. He was never a loud person , nor was he someone who would want to garner attention to himself , but Kalix and Jasper had a kind of history that was never easy to forget.
That being said , he did remember the hand that was always in Jasper’s. The person that he’d hear about so much , interact so little with , and watch from afar —— just in case. He nodded softly when the other mentioned a similar , but distant memory of this moment. In fact , Kalix found it interesting that Jasper was talking about someone else after what had happened.
“ You kissed someone? Oh , you scoundrel. ” He smirked while speaking sarcastically , noting Jasper’s flushed reaction to something Kalix would consider benign. That was something particular about Jasper that he could never quite grasp : how he had so much love and empathy. He shrugged at Jasper’s offer and stifled another yawn. “ You asked for it , don’t complain that I’m squeezing too tight or taking up too much space like before. ”
He still smiled softly , though he concealed the real reason why he hasn’t bothered to sleep in the quarters all that often. Aside from keeping up a habit of napping through the day to stay up and steer at night , Kalix had lost that feeling of comfort while sleeping. He slept for necessity rather than relaxation , but whenever he did get too comfortable —— the memories would flood back.
Kalix reached for his book and looked at the cover , as if he hadn’t been staring at it for the past three weeks. He hesitated before finally looking up at Jasper , remembering a very particular gift he had planned since joining the crew.
“ This one’s a bore , ‘s full of poetry and sappy soliloquies. But Jasper — ” Kalix rose a brow and let the corners of his lips rise slowly as he asked his question. “ — what if I told you that I snagged a few recipes from the bakery at Westburgh? ”
His chuckle turned into a small fit of laughter as he looked away for a moment. “ Don’t ask me how I got them , though. Not exactly proud of that bit. ”
There were a few sounds that took him back to the Silver Moon, ones that could transport him right in the middle of the ship he spent so much time on. Kalix’s laughter was one of those sounds, one that he missed when he thought he could never hear it again. Jasper was not naive when it came to his friend and how he tended to be a bit ‘sour’ towards other people. Perhaps that was one reason he loved that laugh, it was just for him and it felt like home.
“Shut up,” Jasper said turning bright red when the man teased him about his kiss. This was why he didn’t want to tell him in the first place but still it was Kalix and he knew that he would calm his nerves about it all. “It was nice, I missed that feeling but...but I can not help but wonder if I am betraying his memory.” And there it was, out loud in the open for the first time. Was what he growing with Thadd was betraying the memory of Stephen? It was things like this that kept Jasper from taking the next step... “I never do,” the cook said as the blush faded from his cheeks to a smile on his face as he looked at his friend. He had gotten used to back on their old ship the lack of space when the two men cuddled and realized now that he had it back in his life how he had missed it. Why would he complain when he went so long without it? “Poetry and soliloquies? That reminds me of the books you used to read to me long ago--”
His words died in his throat when he realized what exactly Kalix was offering to him. “Y-you have new recipes?” His hazel eyes were wide at this information and he didn’t even realize he was scooting closer to his friend until he was practically on top of him like an eager puppy. “For me?” Since he couldn’t read Jasper had found ways to learn new recipes making most of his time at ports to find someone who would be willing to teach him hands on. He practiced it over and over until he got it right and was comfortable enough to make them on his own. Thadd had offered to teach him how to read but he wasn’t going to shy away from this opportunity at all. “What kind? I promise I won’t ask because I already have a feeling I know the answer.”

charleshere:
Charles sighed, the idle fantasy of a different life evaporating as soon as it had formed. He knew he could have the things he wanted. A home, a cook (if not this random pirate), all of the riches he’d inherited… if he didn’t want the power of the jewels more. An all consuming desire, setting aside happiness, setting aside peace. “Alas, a wandering spirit,” he said with a soft smile. “Perfectly understandable. A quiet life is not for everyone, after all. It certainly isn’t for me.” And yet here he was in Westburgh, so quiet it might as well be a graveyard. The man’s interest as he spoke was palpable, and Charles’ discerning mind fixed on it. Something there. Something personal. Then the man spoke of his motivations, and Charles looked back at him with intensity. “It can,” he said, his voice low, even, confident. “I come from an ancient line of magic, these stories seeped into my reality. I know them well, and I believe them. If I could get my hands on the jewels, well…” He drew out the pause. “There’s a lot I could do for friends of mine.” He said this all with a confidence he had no right to. Stories were stories, distorted, embellished. He had no idea how the jewels’ power would play out until it happened. But he knew the power of possibility, how it could grip a person. “Perhaps,” he responded to the man’s inevitable inquiry. He was asked this question again and again – at least this one wasn’t holding a sword to his throat as he not-so-subtly echoed it. “If I did, I wouldn’t tell anyone who sought it to do harm. I prefer good intentions. Yours, for example.”
Now Jasper Silvers was a loyal man. No matter what crew he was with, what ship he was on the cook dedicated his life to the men and the woman he was with. However hearing Charles’ words, what the man could possibly do for him, well he was only human after all. Well as human as a sorcerer could be. He was a man, and men were flawed were they not? “I also come from a long line of magic,” he said out loud for the first time aboard this ship. Sure a few others knew what he was, what he was trying to hide but if there was a chance Charles could help him out then he was willing to expose himself and whatever else he had to do to get it. “Then consider me a friend now that you know my intentions are true. Just help me get him back, please... I will do anything to help.” It was all but a beg when those words escaped him. He knew the weight what he was promising but he was a desperate man.

“Oh dear. I’m not in any sort of trouble am I? Is there a punishment in my near future?” Thaddeus mused, wiggling their brows. It was easier to joke about that sort of thing, but Jasper’s words did bring about a bit of anxiety somewhere hidden under their words. It was second nature to avoid showing the truth, even when it came to Jasper. The kiss to their cheek settled them somewhat. I could get used to that, they pondered. Bringing their arms to wrap around the cook’s waist, they offered him a small nod and a smile. “Of course I would read one to you—although I’ll spare you the ones full of medical drabble like that one.” They had almost forgotten Jasper’s admission during the robbery until just then, but it spoke to the honesty that needed to brew between the two of them. “I would love to read to you… or even teach you to.”
“You could read me those, I would not mind. Of course all of it would mean nothing to me but hearing you speak would be worth it.” Jasper said softly. As he spoke he reached down and took their hand in his hand squeezed softly. Not wanting to let go he interlaced their fingers together and smiled softly trying to ease his racing heart. Though he did let go when those arms wrapped around him and he felt immediately a bit calmer, like what he was about to say was going to be okay. “I wanted to tell you that something happened at the moon festival and I know we are nothing official,” though he wanted to be, “but I do not want to keep anything from you.” The softest of sighs escaped him and he leant forward to press his forehead against theirs. “Magni and I got drunk and he kissed me,” his voice was a whisper, his hazel eyes were closed in order to calm himself. “I pulled away and told him I was seeing you...at least I hope that I am. Like I said it was nothing but I wanted to be open with you, give us a strong foundation for whatever we may be.” Another pause before he confessed softly, “I like you, Thadd. I am a broken man who is trying to heal but I am willing to try for you.”

kalixus:
The familiarity was almost — eerie. He’d even describe it to be surreal , a very particular part of him was convinced this exact moment was a dream. It was the way that voice called his first name , a reminder of the days when he used to hear Jasper call him Ilias often enough that it didn’t sound so strange. And his laugh — the sonorous and gentle laughter that always contrasted Kalix’s cynicism and silence. He looped his arms around the other male , squeezing tightly and closing his eyes. Kalix’s embrace was adamant as the sigh of relief escaped him.
Jasper felt so warm. He smelled of flour and rosemary. “ Jasper Silvers — ” Kalix spoke softly in disbelief , as though he were talking to himself. “ my God , I only ever saw you again in my — ” No , he never really dreamed. “ — my nightmares. ” The exact ones that would replay that horrid memory , the Silver Moon squealing in flames.
He fumbled over his words , finding that he was nearly breathless from trying to remain so incredibly still. Kalix’s hands reverted to countless memories : where one hand would cradle Jasper’s head and the other would rub his back , a motion that acted as a way of saying I’m here , it’s okay , don’t you fret.
When Kalix pulled away for a moment , his hands went to the flour in Jasper’s hair — and he chuckled softly as reluctant tears pooled in his eyes. “ I feel like you’ve grown taller since then. ”
Jasper didn’t want to let go. Once he felt those familiar arms around him he almost let out a small sob and clung to the older man. The one he had looked up to as an older brother when he grew up on the Silver moon. The very one he rushed to when he realized he was falling in love with a fellow crew member and one of the very ones that he mourned so heavily for when the fire happened.
Yet here he was, Kalix alive and breathing and Jasper was still having a hard time believing that it was real. “Nightmares,” he repeated softly and instead of pulling away he just clung closer really refusing to let him go. Almost as if he was afraid that if he did the other man would slip away from him again and he would wake up up in his bed all alone. “I thought you had died. I thought you were with--” him. Though he couldn’t say that last word out loud. Almost seven years had gone by and Jasper still mourned the man he loved. Though if Kalix, his Illias was alive then perhaps Stephen was as well-- When he felt the man pull away some to look at him, it wasn’t just Illias who had tears in his eyes as Jasper did as well. How could he not? He had thought for years that he had killed this man on accident due to his own mistakes. “I am pretty sure I was always this tall, perhaps you have gotten shorter?” He asked sniffling but the smallest of smile graced his face as he looked at perhaps his oldest friend. “How...how did you survive? The fire was everywhere...”

Even such a simple declaration almost changed Thaddeus’ opinion of the chair in an instant. It was funny that seeing even such a simple thing through Jasper’s eyes could alter their thinking so. “Perhaps that’s because you’re not meant to sit in it so very often,” they mused, watching him with their own soft chuckle. “Hello, love. You’re a pleasant surprise on your own—but sweets? My, my, you must be trying to seduce me.” It was all too fun to tease him in such a way. To bring about that nervous blush. “If my insatiable desire to read in relative silence counts as an emergency, then yes. I’ve just been skimming this on the beach.” They lifted the book in their hand before leaning over to set it on the desk. “I do hope I haven’t kept you waiting too long. If I had known you would visit me, I would have been back ages ago.”
Just like Thadd desired, Jasper blushed at the teasing words that was directed at him. “I would say yes normally but I did want to talk to you about something...” It was hard for him to try to be serious while he was blushing like this and he almost backed out of it. Telling Thadd what had happened. Sure they weren’t exclusive that he knew of but they deserved to know at least. To know where Jasper’s heart was deciding to lie of lately. Standing up the cook walked over to the other man and pressed a soft kiss to their cheek almost as if now that he was able to do so he couldn’t stop doing it. Stealing those kisses and lingering glances whenever he could. And he did often. “Though I do want to hear all about your book and what you have been reading...” pausing he then added almost shyly, “would you read to me one day?”

Thaddeus never seemed to be able to do any reading onboard anymore, so they’d spent most of their day by the seaside for some true peace and quiet. That was the sort of thing that calmed their nerves best, and the last few days were admittedly trying. Some part of them had almost invited Jasper to escape to the beach with them for the day, but they had convinced themselves that he was probably too busy. The thought still lingered in their mind even after they finally trekked back to their quarters, and it almost felt as if they were imagining the fact that Jasper was waiting there when they opened the door and saw him. “Fancied some sweets in my horrid chair? Rather a funny way to spend an evening,” they teased, a small smile on their face.
Unable to help himself, the cook blushed like he normally did whenever the other was around him. “I do not think it is horrid,” he said before spinning in it once and letting out a small giggle. The sweet was still in his hand when he was once again facing the other and he just smiled wide. “Hello, by the way. I thought I would surprise you with some sweets and my company?” He said but really ended up asking as if Thadd would turn him away. “Where did you run off to tonight? Did you have an emergency?” Hazel eyes got wide at the thought, a bit worried yet eager to learn more about the man he had been kissing.

things are going fine, jasper discovered his love for cooking and stephen was slowly working on his degree in history with plans to be a teacher one day. however soon stephen is called into active duty and jasper has to say goodbye to his husband for a few months

📖 + Au where Stephen turns up entirely alive and well and joins the Serpent
jasper is shocked at first. like jaw opened, eyes wide shocked. i wouldnt’ be surprised if he has a panic attack or not over the fact the man is alive all this time and wants to join them?
once the happiness and shock wears off he slowly becomes torn because while he has everything he wanted in life he has Thadd now and loves them too.
he pulls himself away from both of them unable to make that decision in his life because he feels guilty for moving on so quickly as he did (jas seven years is NOT quickly) he also doesn’t want to hurt Thadd either
in the end he follows his heart which honestly, tiny has no idea where that lies. maybe a poly relationships? him with stephen? him with Thadd? basically jasper is a confused bean and this would break him

📖+ cooking show AU
jasper at first doesnt send in his little audition. he only sends it in when Thadd convinces him to
he is nervous the whole time as he waits for the results but also tries not to get his hopes up that maybe they like them enough to let him on the show
he cries when he gets the call saying they want him on the show and Thadd and him go out to celebrate at Jas’ favorite place to eat that night
when he gets there he makes friends with every one immediately and quickly becomes a fan favorite of the show (not that he is aware of this until it actually stars airing)
he almost goes home the third week but manages to last another week because of his salted caramel creme brulee he made in the elimination round
he ends up making it to the final four and gets super nervous and the whole time in his little ‘interviews’ talks about how lucky he is to even be there and how everyone is so talented and how they all deserve to win
the last round he has to make a five course dinner, the most he has ever worked in his life but manages to keep calm the whole time
later when asked how he managed to not panic he mentions how he thought about Thadd and how he wanted to make them proud
this time, he ends up winning and he cries. everyone hugs him and he hugs them back before declaring he wanted to split his winnings with the other contestant who was competing so she could use the winnings to bring her mother to the US to live with her in her older age.
he also wins a restaurant where the menu changes daily based on what Jasper is feeling like cooking that day
The rest of the crew are his number one customers.

📖 + AU where Stephen ran away with another man instead of dying
OUCH
jas would think that Stephen was dead for a while. several years even until one day he ran into him at port somewhere
he gets so excited to see him, he cries and runs up to hug him only to get the man stephen is with a confused look on his face
it would take my clueless boy a bit to realize what was going on for the pieces to fall into place
in fact it probably would take the other man calling stephen ‘babe’ that it all fell into place for jasper
pulling back from the two men with a look of hurt and shock on his face he would claim he had the wrong people and rush off to cry somewhere alone
when he is calmed down he never tries to contact Stephen again, knowing that at least he was happy now and takes it as a sign that he can move on finally even going as far as debating on leaving the life of a pirate once and for all
he never trusts another man though, always wondering as he lies awake at night next to them if this one was going to leave him too...

📖+ an AU where modern!jasper is a food blogger
first off he would be so humble about his little blog. even if it has a shit ton of followers he would be all ‘thank you guys idk how i got this far i love you all’
he would start it out on instagram, just posting pictures of food that he liked when out and about. picture, hastags and a cute little caption and that was it
jas gets so excited when he first gets followers, just shocked that people want to see his pictures of food from date night or food that he makes at home
what really gets his blog/instagram popular is when he starts to post the bread he makes on it
when he gets famous enough to start making money off of it, he donates it all to charity picking a different orphanage each month/year. he does this for the love of it not for the money
the day he gets asked to be on tv either for a show segment or a competition he cries
he doesnt win the competition but he has fun doing it and that is all that matters
