https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/06/economy/trade-deficit-august/index.html
This article discusses the climb in America's trade deficit. According to the Census Bureau America's trade deficit has risen to the highest level in 14 years. However people are wondering could this rise be caused by the pandemic? “Foreign trade was hit hard by lockdown efforts, and exports still haven't recovered to their pre-pandemic levels, experts said.
The turnaround in the economy's fortunes from the quickest downturn in history has seen consumers and businesses rushing out to buy more imported goods while America's trading partners are buying less of ours and this has led the monthly deficit to explode to near record levels.” It also has been reported that this may take some time to return back to completely normal levels.
I feel the consumer and business owner are exercising their Economic freedom more than ever right now. This can be a good and bad thing but if handled properly it could be for the better. I think this could be a good thing for repairing and making a strong economy but also needs to be monorted. If not monorted, more people could lose their jobs and cause more business to shut down.
This article can connect to chapter 4,15, and 16. In chapter 4 who feeds Paris and how coca cola was marketed. Chapter 15 guided reading introduced and discussed U.S import and export. It also taught us about global trade and the major benefits of it. Along with chapter 16 is Walmart good or bad for America assignment.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/18/economy/unemployment-benefits-pandemic-anniversary/index.html
These articles discuss the rise in unemployment a year into the pandemic.
Businesses are still suffering from being shut down and citizens are still recovering from being put out of work. Furthermore some have compared this to the great recession “ For the past 12 months, first-time claims for jobless benefits have been higher than during the worst moments of the Great Recession.” “Last week, 770,000 Americans filed initial claims for unemployment benefits on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Department of Labor reported Thursday. It was an increase from the prior week and 70,000 claims more than economists had expected.”
However with more citizens getting the vaccine economists are hoping for the unemployment rate to decrease.
I feel America really needs to exercise the common good right now especially because the United States is already facing enormous amounts of debt.
This is really unfortunate for the families going without and I feel need to be handled very delicately. I also think there’s no guarantee that the vaccine will work along with lowering the unemployment rate or if so it will take a while. Even though the numbers have decreased from last year I think we still need to take the same precautions.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/10/success/2020-taxes-information-feseries/index.html
This article discusses new tax regulations and extended dates for 2021.
Due to the pandemic and tax season approaching the government has put in place some new guidelines to help taxpayers. Tax preparers are still having a hard time with 2020 tax returns due to all the changes "This has been my worst tax season in 30 years of practice."
Deadline extensions have been put into effect “The IRS announced earlier this month that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals is now May 17, 2021, postponed about a month from its traditional April 15 due date.” there also adjusting tax brackets to have citizens get back more in returns “The IRS has adjusted individual income tax brackets for inflation, and with last year's CARES Act.”
I feel this can be helpful for taxpayers to give them more time to help adjust and get back in order but I feel this can cause problems with tax officials . Although with the extended deadlines you would think this could help tax officials, but it can be challenging getting used to all the new guidelines. I also feel this will cause a lot more people to file their taxes this year. Overall I hope this pushes us closer to getting back to normal and fixes the parts of the economic system that COVID has negatively impacted.
This connects what we've been discussing in class because of chapter 12. Chapter 12 entails all about taxes and the different types of tax and their definitions.
And this can connect to economics over all because of the change in government system and how it can change so quickly. This also connects to unit 2 through the supply side , dealing with marginal tax rates.

Outrage as Nigeria sentences 13-year-old boy to 10 years in prison for blasphemy
This article talks about a 13 year old boy who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for blasphemy. His name is Omar Farouq and was arrested for being accused of using disrespectful language toward Allah while arguing with a friend. He was given this sentence on August 10. They tried him as an adult because they claim he was old enough to understand what he was doing at the time. It was also another boy who was sentenced for the same thing but to death by the same court and judge.
I feel that this is straight up wrong to sentence him to 10 years in prison. He is only 13 years old and being tried as an adult. I wonder if they are doing this to try to make an example of him to other kids so they won’t do the same. I think the boy shouldn’t do any serious prison time at all. I’m glad some people actually tried to help him out but they really couldn’t. I also felt bad his mom was forced to leave after he was arrested so to other people.
One question I have is how would you feel if you were in this situation?

US consumer sentiment takes a hit despite promises of more stimulus
This article contains information about the stimulus checks and how it could be a setback.
This can be very detrimental to families who are in need during this pandemic and thoses looking forward to some extra help.”American households making less than $75,000 are feeling especially pessimistic about their financial
future.” This article also disclosed the stock market crashes and business layoffs. The question is how will the government and people recover from this economic crisis
I feel like this stimulus check is needed tremendously. For tragic things that COVID 19 has erupted among the United States leaving families unprepared, financially and emotionally and the stimulus check could really benefit the people.
Families have become dependent on the checks during these times. This stimulus check is a part of common good , because it is to help the communities during this time.
Not only has this pandemic affected the world right now is it changes people's features and is making achievements harder.
This can connect to chapter 1,because it entails decisions the government has to consider about business and people, such as tradeoffs. the government has to see how much they can give in the checks and what they will have to spend less on. It can also connect to chapter 2. The stimulus checks are needed because of shortage and the government is doing it’s services by giving checks out to help.

West High school Evacuation
By: Jaydenn Burrus
Nov.13,2020
There was a Campus evacuation at 9 a.m on tuesday at West High school.
A chemistry teacher named Don Butterfingers dropped a container of sulfuric Acid in his classroom
He called on a responsible student, Tim Glad to “ to call campus security and tell them to sound the evacuation alarm!”
Then he got all of his students out of the class away from the acid through the rear door.
The spill was caused because of Mr.Butterfingers he says “ I may have been a bit overly cautious in requesting a school wide evacuation for a chemical spill in hiss classroom but i was playing it safe”
No one was in danger, the classroom was cleaned and sealed off the rest of the day.
Classes were continued and Mr.Butterfingers classes remained in the media center.

This article provides information about the US could be facing a second round of shut down. Governor Whitmer has already issued a 3 week quarantine and that schools and restaurants will
be closing. Whitmer also stated that this wave could be worse than before ‘the state is on a
path to mark 1,000 COVID-19 deaths a week’.
Even before Whitmer's announcement doctors were already seeing this coming “Covid
patients are still being rushed to intensive care everyday but doctors are starting to say it looks like the numbers could be going back up and rapidly”.
Also new facts being brought to people's attention about the weather getting colder is another reason why the numbers are going up.
This is concerning to me because like the previous wave of shut down it started with a couple weeks of quarantine then quickly changed, and there was no guarantee when reopening was going to happen . There's no time limit to these shut downs and being a student can cause problems involving my education and going back to school.I also understand the importances of keeping everyone safe during these times but the new question is,is this going to be our future, and is there more we can be doing to reduce the spread.
Considering the fact that last time governor Whitmer shut down Michigan to try to stop the spread, people thought it was unconstitutional and an abuse of power, which people also thought was limiting their liberty.
This connects to what we've talked about in class because this involves the roles of government that the governor plays and what her ability is.
As governor she is the chief of the party when it comes to making decisions.
This also connects to people's natural rights and how the government is limmitinting them along with how the government is ignoring the facts that the governor is doing this to protect citizens. Overall this can connect to most of all the subjects we've covered in class in some way when dealing with this issue.

What we know about Moderna's coronavirus vaccine and how it differs from Pfizer's
By Eric Levenson and Jacqueline Howard, CNN
Updated 10:06 PM EST, Thu December 17, 2020
This article is about the lastes vaccine for the terrible Coronavirus. Moderna's coronavirus vaccine candidate is similar to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that was authorized and shipped out to the first Americans earlier this week.
The US Food and Drug Administration plans to grant emergency use authorization to Moderna for the vaccine, FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn and Dr. Peter Marks, director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research
Something that caught my eye about the vaccine was how effective they say their vaccine is “The Moderna vaccine was effective in preventing Covid-19 cases in total and in limiting severe Covid-19 during the trial.
The vaccine's efficacy against Covid-19 was 94.1%, occurring at least 14 days after the second dose, according to a briefing document released by an advisory committee to the FDA.” If the vaccine was this effect why is it not out in hospital and in communities that need it the most.
Also they used while testing the vaccine they gave it to 15,000 people and only 1 died but that was due to COVID-19 and they ran the test again and only 11 people got COVID and not one person passed.
My question is, how effective will the vaccine actually be and will it be completely assembly as a flu shot.

Second wave of COVID in U.S

The presidential election
By:Jaydenn Burrus
7th hour
This article discusses information about the presidential election and how the candidates are handling it.
Many people are saying that this election has been more controversial than the 2016 elections.
Some people are questioning president Trump's for his actions during this election. “Too close to avoid Trump’s charges, at 2:30 a.m. White House appearance claiming “fraud,” without factual support, and vowing to go to the Supreme Court for help.”
There’s lots of people that are not the happiest about the current results in this election ,and it doesn’t seem like this is going to end in a graceful manner.
I definitely feel this election has called for a lot of chaos.
I personally think some of the president's tactics during this voting process have been childish and have made citizens look at him differently, question his ways,I feel this is limiting people’s liberty.
However it has brought a lot of attention to his campaign which could encourage people to vote, which is allowing people to use their personal freedom and political freedom.
This election will go down in history and forever be remembered for its unexpected turn of events.
I wonder how this all will play out and I hope for a better outcome in the end.

COVID UPRISE
This article provides information about the US could be facing a second round of shut down.
Seems like when things have just begun to fully open up again they could be looking to close again without a timeframe of reopening.
Covid patients are still being rushed to intensive care everyday but doctors are starting to say it looks like the numbers could be going back up and rapidly,French doctors are arguing for another national shutdown.
“that 58% of the country's intensive care units are now occupied by COVID patients and medical staff are under increasing strain.”
That statement is causing a lot of uneasy feelings for a lot of people and businesses along with questions.
Europe has already started their second wave of shut down by lots of local businesses having to close because of the increasing number recently.
This is concerning to me because there's no time limit to these shut downs and being a student that can cause problems involving going back to school.
Along with this causes a scare because just when the numbers started to go down statistics and data are showing them rising again.
Causing me question when this will be over ,and is there a possibility that we could be doing more to reduce the numbers from increasing.
This makes me feel like there could be a worse outcome from all of this especially if there's a second wave.
