And the experiment wasn't to revive them or prevent them from dying. it was to make their souls persist after their bodies dissolved like human souls do. that way they could collect monster souls and slowly build up to being able to break the barrier.

the monsters waking up and becoming amalgams was completely unintended and unexpected. i see a lot of people act like Alphys did some horrible experiment on like living people to turn them into horrible fused monstrosities and it's like No?????? Can you read???

This is going to sound real silly at first but stay with me. Everyone absolutely needs to full stop saying "x makes us human" unless "x" is "being a human." There is just never going to be another version of that statement that doesn't hurt people. Love doesn't make us human sex doesn't make us human cooking or family or hobbies or jobs or any emotion you can think of doesn’t make us human not even art or music or dance or sports or stories or anything. There will always always always always be a complete human being who is a full person who deserves to be treated as such who doesn't fit whatever the definition of "human" you came up with if you do this. Always always always. And usually it'll be a person who is already dehumanized, often due to ableism but I've seen this hurt people across a variety of marginalized identities. So stop. Please.
