I agree with you censorship should be required when it comes to children listening or watching.
week15 response
Is censorship in art/entertainment required? Why or why not?
I can see censorship needed in entertainment as in television and radio for younger children listening, although children should be obscured from fowler language, most often they are not, a way to “protect” them from such language and sexual context is to censor it. As for art if we are talking in terms of gallery’s, paintings, drawings then I see where there many still need to be a warning, I know is some shows I’ve been in they ask for “child friendly” paintings or they will say “adults only “ preparing people for what they are to expect, is understandable but we also shouldn’t tell artist they cannot create such art or entertainment. A warning such as the ratings on movies should be put into place. Although we all know that children are not always protecting from such images, language, I feel as a overall society we try our best to “protect” the young.
Do you think ideas and concepts by artists can be dangerous? How?
When looking art thought the years many famous paintings have been controversial and considered dangerous but as times changed and so did people the old piece becomes “normal” and new pieces became the dangerous ones, in all movements of art there will be something someone will have a problem with and if that did not exist then is the movement considered a movement? The idea and concept thought of my artists are parts of their lives their mind and no one’s mind is completely “happy” and to be honest are not the best piece created the most dangerous in the eyes of the artist. If you are not taking a leap into the dark side or dangerous side of being an artist, then are you truly an artist? If your not willing to create something just because others might not like it, the whole point of being an artist is to make people think and take a look at their lives, I think Vincent van Gogh said it best “ art is to console those broken by life.” We are all broken and the broken part of being and artist is creating the dangerous thoughts in hopes of consoling someone else life.
Where should the line be drawn with censorship?
I feel the line for censorship should be drawn by the person creating such are what they choose to reveal because it is their art their vision, in showing such things like I said before their needs to be a warning / rating of the context and if it is child friendly or for adults only.

Week 15 Response
Is censorship in art/ entertainment required? why/why not? I believe censorship in art and entertainment is necessary when something can be offensive. I believe that we as Americans take a lot to offense and some people are just sensitive. I think not everything requires censorship but then it comes to our cultures, religions, politics, etc. It is important. Without this their could be a lot of rebellion.
Do you think ideas and concepts by artist can be dangerous? why? Yes I do think ideas can be dangerous because there is potential for that idea to upset or change social or political issues. When you have an idea and you throw it out there you don't know what everyone’s opinion will be or how they will react to it. so before artists throw their ideas out there they should take into consideration the effects that it could have on a person. A persons Idea could also be a bad one. Just because one person has an idea doesn't mean we are going to agree with it or follow their lead.
For artists whos subject matter revolves around a concept of questioning governments or other entities of power should they be allowed to express these opinions? I believe they have every right to express their opinions. We see a lot of political art. When it comes to politics, power, and religion we all have our own opinions and beliefs. We should take into consideration the feelings of others. When it comes to touchy subjects like this I am sure artist know ahead of time before releasing their art that not everyone will love it. I saw a painting of Obama flipping trump off. That may be offensive to some people but others may love it and find humor in it. You can always please everyone and we are all entitled to our own opinions. I think if it wont harm anyone then its fine.

Week 11- Ai Weiwei
When I first was introduced to Ai Weiwei’s artwork I loved it! For once it was a step away from past art years ago. It was art that I could enjoy because it was with in my lifetime. His art seemed to be one objected jumbled together creating an art piece. He used stools, bicycles, and other objects that may not come to your mind when you think about art which is very creative, his art also at times would be very powerful and tell a story with in on events that happened in the world. I believe his art is activist art. Ai Weiwei’s art raises awareness for the refuge’s crisis in Europe. His artwork is very powerful and innovative. In his work he includes his personal poetry along with political conviction. I believe his artwork include some fine art. He has very creative artwork and also aesthetic. He has one of pottery with the name coca cola on it which reminded me of fine art along with his art piece sculptures. I also believe that the message involving government intervention and concepts regarding individual freedom is something that connect to his artwork. He uses his artwork to tell stories about these topics with in them. I think that the messaging may not be necessary today but including it doesn’t have a different impact on me as a viewer of the art work.

I agree, It is definitely impressive to see all the detail throughout his painting and try to interpret what exactly it means.
Week 7 - Bosch
To find the intended meaning, we need to think deeper about the meaning of Hieronymus Bosch’s pieces. When I first read the title, before even looking at the piece of art, I imagined it would be something of unusual art and of greater creativity. When evacuating the artwork, I was very impressed but found it a challenge trying to figure out the deeper meanings of the images. In the Art Talk video of Hieronymus Bosch provided to us, the narrator talks about a key that we would think of opening a door. But it is necessary to ask more questions to find the precision of the piece. What door does the key open and why is this so? Is this the door to the mind? We have to be curious and relentless while looking at this piece of art. I had to be very open-minded while evaluating this piece, because I am not used to art work such as the Garden of Earthly Delights. Illustrative surrealism is an artistic style that is not one I would usually have chosen to look into the deeper meaning, but as I got into it, I found it more and more interesting and developed a theory for what this piece means to me specifically.
I feel that there are many places where symbolism is present, but a few specifically stand out to me. The largest symbolism to me is where the animals are feeding the humans. In this snippet, a duck is feeding a man some sort of berry with its beak, as if it is its own child. This is one of the first images I noticed. To me, this is symbolizing the fact that nature and its animals inevitably take care and provide for humans. I think of myself and my farming background when I find a way to compare this to present day. Although farmers take care of their animals, they take care of us in that they provide us with food, clothing, and other things we need. Again, this picture depicts that animals are necessary for human life, whether it be birds, chickens, or cows. Even vegetarian and vegans utilize goods that had animal contributors.
The second scene I chose is not specifically to this image but that there are a few black-skinned humans dispersed among a mostly white group. In the picture I have included, a white person seems to be explaining something to a black person. I think this signifies how humans should be inclusive. I find it interesting that Bosch included this in his artwork as this was done back in the late 1400s. This was when there seemed to be racism occurring in society. This shows me that Bosch found inclusiveness important.
Originally, it was hard to find meaning in this piece, but as I looked closer, I was able to depict images that meant something to me. This piece of art is full of wonderful color and creativity which is very appealing to the eye. Despite the odd figures found in this piece, I think it is beautifully created.

This is the second image I choose from the Garden of earthly delights. I choose this because, throughout the whole painting, you can see berries being used as a source of food. You also see a lot of birds throughout the painting. it took me a second to notice the bird that is in the shell with the man and women. he uses fruit a lot along with plants and animals, sometimes it's hard to decipher which is which. In this image it looks as though they are in water. the guy and girl appear to be in a cracked eggshell. Along with the guy in the back in a blue shell of some type. I also choose this piece because the couples stood out to me. the guy and girl you see standing in the water and the one you see in the eggshell look identical. Bosch’s artwork has a lot going on which makes it a very fun and interesting painting to analyze.

The first image I choose in The Garden of Earthly Delights is from the first panel on the painting. It appears to be God with a male and female. Maybe adam and eve. In the background, you can see an elephant, giraffe, unicorn, and other hybrid creatures. The God is introducing women to man in this setting. I think the God is in this image to show that God created animals and human.

Art can definitely make a person feel better and relieve stress, as well as express their feelings to others. It sends out very powerful messages. I liked that you mentioned the banana art, which definitely shows how powerful art can be to us.
week 4
What I think Abby Chen means when she says “This is about being human” is that the people in Hong Kong wanted to end the protests and are trying to find a way to make Hong Kong a better place or make things better than they actually are. They use all different kinds of art to make them feel better and not make it as bad of a place. To me, I feel that the importance of art in the Hong Kong protests are high, It is something that helps people feel better ad make them sometimes laugh in a time of horror. The power of art can change the way that things are being dealt with. It can show that they can have peace in Hong Kong. The memes that they use are a big part of art that can help people forget about what is happening on the outside. It is something that can help people express their feeling about the protests. The power of art is as big as it can be because it is something that can change the way something thinks of something. The article talks about how.there was a piece of “art” that sold for $120,000 and it was just a banana duct-taped to a wall. It is something that is important and can be so important that someone would spend so much money on something like that.

Week 4
When Abby Chen quoted “This is about being human,” She is referring to what is going on in hong kong and how everyone wants to make hong kong a better place because they are experiencing traumatic situations so they express themselves through art. The art helps give a visual of these moments and helps express the emotions of this war zone. The power of art is truly an amazing thing. You could be looking at the same artwork as someone else and you both could see two different perspectives from it and that’s what makes artwork so beautiful. Art can educate people and even create awareness because of the artwork of these hard times in Hong Kong it could create awareness in the future and the artwork will always be around to look back on. Looking at that artwork you may feel the same emotions as the people did living through it and that is powerful.

I think it is very impressive that it was created with ink! It looks so realistic and it's very detailed, as you had mentioned. You do a great job at describing the picture If I were to read your caption without looking at the art piece I can picture it! Looking at this picture it is a symbol we all recognize that has to do with religion. Beautiful.
Northern Renaissance Artwork:
While learning about these pieces of artwork, also called things like Flemish paintings, I noticed many, MANY of them dealt with religion. More specifically, Christianity. This does not come to a surprise to me though, as it was a big part of the time period and a big part of people's lives. One painting from that time period caught my eye though, it is a drawing called Praying Hands.

Title: Praying Hands/Study of the Hands of an Apostle
Artist: Albrecht Dürer
Dimensions: 0' 11" X 0' 7"
Created: 1508
Media: Paper & Ink
This picture caught me off guard when I was looking through Flemish paintings and drawings. To me, it seems like a very specific piece of artwork, mostly because it does not show a whole person, along with the fact it is made out of ink, yet looks like it's painted. Dürer did an amazing job with the details, you can feel the curvature of the hands, where they become flat, or where there's small bumps. There's even a weight to the cloth of the sleeves, though they don't seem heavy you can almost feel them on yourself if you imagine it. Along with those, there's such a contrast between the background and the hands themselves, yet there is hardly a color variation. It's nearly the same tone of blue, but the hands stand out instantly, and there's no part where they meld into the back.
As with many Flemish paintings, this one does deal with religion. In my reading that was one thing I already knew- the Renaissance had plenty of paintings dealing with religion, and this one does not fall short of that. It's obviously someone praying to someone, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest. When I looked up Flemish paintings, all I was expecting was something to deal with religion, and I was not disappointed.

This is an oil painting created by Jan van Eyck
Luca Madonna in 1437. This painting is supposed to represent Mary holding infant Christ. The niche to the right is representing a piscina which is where the priest washes his hands was kept the niche to the right which resembles a piscina where water for the priest to wash his hands was kept. The shape of the room is very narrow which shows how large the thrown she is sitting in is. It also makes us aware that she is in a small chapel. You can see there is a window and what looks like fruit sitting on the window sill which probably represent the apple that was eaten by eve. On the shelves, there is an empty candlestick. The flooring tiles looked very detailed with geometric patterns along with the carpet covering it. Mary is also wearing a huge beautiful gown. You can tell this gown is from the Northern Renaissance days. There are also lion statues that refer to the story Soloman. This work of art stood out to me because it is nothing like what we are used to seeing in today's art. I choose this art piece because it appears as though she is breastfeeding the infant. Renaissance art usually had some type of nudity in it. In today's society, people make a big deal out of breastfeeding and are always told to go in private or cover-up, I like this piece because she is nurturing her baby and no one looks at it in a disgusting way.

Van Gogh is a very talented well known Artist. This is a beautiful famous piece.

Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh has been one of my favorite pieces of art since I was young. To me, this painting is very eye appealing. It includes a beautiful landscape with a village and a starry night of blues that are well blended and given a look of much texture and movement. The dark sky is behind a bright yellow moon and stars. Van Gogh was mainly self taught, which I find intriguing.

This is one of the most recent Artworks created that I like. I like artwork that has meaning behind it, As we all know recently Australia has had horrible bushfires that have killed many people, animals and their homes. Unfortunately because of it this work of art was created.
