Those Damned Little Things

Those things. Those things.  Those little slivers of humanity, 

observed from a distance, and in secret in crowded places.

Where we're most at peace with ourselves.

Where we're safe from judgment, and critique. 

Those glances we witness of one another,

glancing at one another.

Witnessing each other witness each other,

in all of our confused, convoluted, beautiful glory.

Where the veneer of order droops over the wonderful mess of our lives, 

keeping us safe, and safely keeping our eyes covered from

the threat of our own reflections. 

Those little moments, in peace, and in quiet.

Those little things.  Those damned little things.
