I despise having to be this person, but Yelena does not have a canon sexuality.

I'm not saying she's not aroace. I'm not saying I don't want her to be aroace. I'm saying it's not canon. I'm aroace myself, and dear god do I wish we had that representation. We just don't (yet, at least).

Canon by definition means something explicit that happens in the source media. It leaves no room for interpretation or implication.

In Yelena's case, her sexuality has never been addressed. Not in the comics, not in the movies.

There is that one comic panel of her going "I'm not anything" in response to being accused of being a lesbian, yes. However, it doesn't refer to her sexuality in the context of the comic series (which I've read). It's a way of her dehumanising herself, because the person she's talking to is taunting her for "not being as good as Natasha", which is what the entire series is about.

The 'writer' confirming it? The only person who has spoken about Yelena's sexuality has been Devin Grayson. She has expressed her opinion, which she later claimed to be "just a headcanon" because she has no rights to make anything canon for Yelena anymore.

Any concept of Yelena's sexuality is a headcanon until it comes directly from the character's mouth on-screen or in a printed comic.

Now, I'm saying this again, I'm not trying to erase the fact that she could potentially identify as aro/ace. I just hate seeing misinformation spread around about something being canon, when it's very much not. :)

(and i'm sorry if i come off aggressive about this, i get like. highkey possessed every time i write anything regarding this bc yelena is one of my biggest hyperfixations ever. i'm just very passionate about anything concerning her 🥴)

Stop erasing Yelena Belova's sexuality. Lewis Pullman has said that she and Bob are not romantic. If you want to make them romantic under the "but aroace people can still date" technicality, write the confusion. Write the "oh god oh no what the hell is this". Write the fear of feeling a completely new emotion. Write the impostor syndrome. Write the worry and fear and avoidance. Write it, I dare you. If you aren't willing to do that, then don't write a canonically aroace character feeling romantic feelings. I am so SO fucking sick of this.
