you go to work. ur boss still talks about skyrim as if its a personality trait to play it. they are playing club music from 2012. nobody knows who is running for mayor. nobody cares who they vote for. theres a homeless man next door who has violent breakdowns on the sidewalk everyday. hes lived a life so full of pain that he doesnt even respond when you ask if you can get him water because its hot today. back inside, a teenager is being yelled at for something that could be respectfully explained in half as much time. your coworker says he doesnt know why pride parades have to be so explicit. you clock out. some one keyed a scratch in the side of your car. you see three highway patrolmen on the way home, making a man lay on the cold concrete while they tear through his car. you dont have the energy to even care. you get home. theres a sequel to some movie you saw when you were a teenager, and its advertisement glows unconsentually over your living room's tv. your home is like an obstacle course, which youve highly optimized the route of. you know everyones routines enough to slip past them and make a dive for your room. you feed your cat. you dont feed yourself. you fall asleep unwashed and hungry. you wake up the next day to the sound of a bill collector calling you. you forgot to put your phone on silent, so they took the only time you had to rest.

how crazy is it? cnn is saying columbia is cleared?
everything is shut down near columbia and city college, police buses and cars everywhere and police are barricading the streets near the campuses. a few people were just arrested outside of city college while it seems like some students are still occupying the city college administrative building and still in the encampment. tons of cops near columbia last i heard they arrested everyone occupying the hall and kicked out press, police have barricades set up so no one in the surrounding apartments can get out

for my fellow psychotics who struggle with thinking someone is in their house, a method I’ve found that really works are these guys:
Tumblr media
i put them on my front door and anytime it opens they ring. that way if i think someone has broken in or i see someone who isn’t there i can think back to if the bells have rung, and if they haven’t i can assure myself it’s not real. obviously it’s not fool proof, like if you are prone to auditory hallucinations, but it has really helped me calm down in time to avoid major psychotic breaks. it’s a real lifesaver

To a homophobe, even the most chaste kiss on the cheek between gay people is exactly as disgusting and degenerate as a hardcore BDSM orgy hosted in the town square, so you may as well ally with the BDSM orgy enthusiasts to throw bricks at the cops who are going to try and arrest all of you together anyway.

I recently had surgery, and at the time I came home, I had both my cat and one of my grandma's cats staying with me.
- Within hours of surgery, I wake up from a nap to my cat gently sniffing at my incisions with great alarm.
- I was not allowed to shower the first day after surgery, and the cats, seeing that The Large Cat is not observing its cleaning ritual, decided I must be gravely disabled and compensated by licking all the exposed skin on my arms, face, and legs.
- I currently have to sleep with a pillow over my abdomen because my cat insists on climbing on top of me and covering my incisions with her body while I sleep (which is very sweet but not exactly comfortable without the pillow). She also lays across me facing my bedroom door, presumably on guard for attackers who may try to harm me while I'm sleeping and injured.
That's love. 🐈‍⬛🐈❤️

So, there's a dirty little secret in indie publishing a lot of people won't tell you, and if you aren't aware of it, self-publishing feels even scarier than it actually is.
There's a subset of self-published indie authors who write a ludicrous number of books a year, we're talking double digit releases of full novels, and these folks make a lot of money telling you how you can do the same thing. A lot of them feature in breathless puff pieces about how "competitive" self-publishing is as an industry now.
A lot of these authors aren't being completely honest with you, though. They'll give you secrets for time management and plotting and outlining and marketing and what have you. But the way they're able to write, edit, and publish 10+ books a year, by and large, is that they're hiring ghostwriters.
They're using upwork or fiverr to find people to outline, draft, edit, and market their books. Most of them, presumably, do write some of their own stuff! But many "prolific" indie writers are absolutely using ghostwriters to speed up their process, get higher Amazon best-seller ratings, and, bluntly, make more money faster.
When you see some godawful puff piece floating around about how some indie writer is thinking about having to start using AI to "stay competitive in self-publishing", the part the journalist isn't telling you is that the 'indie writer' in question is planning to use AI instead of paying some guy on Upwork to do the drafting.
If you are writing your books the old fashioned way and are trying to build a readerbase who cares about your work, you don't need to use AI to 'stay competitive', because you're not competing with these people. You're playing an entirely different game.
