Voiceovers + Editing
Jasmine has sent over the exported film, we all suggested to add a couple clips that had been missed out, as well as remove one of the less favourable ones. Lili and I recorded our voice overs for our section of the modern bars in Liverpool. I've sent them over to Jasmine to match up to the footage.

More Editing !!!!
Jasmine has been at home sorting out the last of the clips in what we have so far in the film. Amelie and Lili went to the library to edit their clips from the Grapes to form this sequence.
Next on the list of things to do is voice overs and to then add them to the whole film.

Cavern Club
Jasmine, Lili and Rhiannon went to Cavern Club to get some footage of what it looks like today ! They were focused on the building itself and the history, rather than the Beatles cover artist. Jasmine complained that Guinness was expensive, it wouldn't have been that much in the 50s. Collectively they agreed that they liked the old school, cozy atmosphere due to the brick walls and tunnel like ceilings. The history of the establishment is displayed obviously with memorabilia on the walls and in cabinets.

Script
Jasmine has developed a script for the voice over in the film ! Lili and Amelie are adding their insight from their excursions, this will be played along side the clips we have collected. We have decided who will say each part, and are planning to start editing next week. Our next trips will be to The Grapes and The Cavern Club.

David Helbock
Lili and Amelie went to visit Hope Uni's Capstone Theatre to watch the wonderful work of David Helbock and his band (Peter Madsen, Raphael Preuschl, Claudio Spieler and Herbert Piker), perform the latest album, Austrian Syndicate. The opening song was astounding, as if we had been transported to a space ship in the 1960's. The beats were captivating, especially when watching the interaction of the percussionist, Spieler, and the drummer, Pirker, as they keep time together. Spieler's collection of bells, wind chimes, drums, beads and shells added to the performance as he lit up when playing, energy flowed through him. The smoothness and fluidity of the bassist, Preuschl, maintained the foundation of the pieces. Working together as one entity, each musician was looking at another, engaging with the audience as one, while ensuring rhythm and timings were as one.

Petit Cafe
Lili and Amelie went to the Petit Café on Duke Street to watch one of the many jazz bands that play weekly at the café. The band consisted of a double bass and two guitars. It is has the essence of a Parisian café where you sit on the side of the pavement. From the inside, the glow of the lights of the cars driving past and the silhouettes of the people walking past added to the cozy comfort of the place, as you get transported to another time, with the sway of bossa novas and light conversation.

reading
Jasmine and Rhiannon have been gathering sources and reading material. This has been going into the history of the cavern club and different establishments in Liverpool. Jasmine has been working to start collecting work to make a script to form our voice over for the footage Lili and Amelie have been collecting for the film. We are also hoping to find some archive footage of jazz bands to add to the film to use as a juxtaposition.

The Caledonia
Venturing to the Caledonia, Lili and Amelie braved the cold and their tiredness after a contemporary art field trip. Out of the places we have visited, as a pair we have agreed that the Caledonia is the best one so far. We believe this to be due to the dark wood interior, nostalgic floral wallpaper and warm lighting. The Caledonia provided more of a sense of community due to the collection of regulars perched at the bar, tapping along to the beat. On top of this, the range of ages from a group of 20 somethings, to couples in their 80s, all mixing on shared tables, borrowing chairs from one another added to the shared space.
The band itself were very impressive with their broad age range of musicians. The singing from the drummer, guitarist and trumpet player struck us with awe. Each time a song came on they managed to draw in the attention of the whole room, making it feel like a collective, unanimous experience to warm the soul on a dreary Friday evening. Especially, when they played My Blue Heaven the room lit up, including even a couple of strangers getting up to dance.

Ma Boyles
Last week, Lili and Amelie went to visit Ma Boyles, a cozy cafe and bar right by St Nicholas' church. The outline of the church and its steeple gave an impressive background for listening to the jazz quartet playing on the otherside of the window. The bar was buzzing with life, people packed in like sardines, shoulder to shoulder. The band were very impressive with their ability to connect with the audience by playing well know classics, as well as their own original songs.

Planning Schedule
Today we sat in the library and figured out which jazz events to attend in Liverpool, we managed to sort out a time table for when to go to these and film some footage ! We also asked for funding to attend the jazz festival, but its looking unlikely. So, instead we are going to the Cavern Club.

L'Apertitivo
Lili and Amelie went to L'Aperitivo on Bold Street to listen and watch a jazz trio perform. It helped us build some confidence in attempting to film some footage, as well as being comfortable in the environment as it seems a bit pretentious at first. However, we soon settled into the scene and talked to other people outside. One man in particular blamed the effect of the jazz for his forwardness when talking to.

first meeting
we found articles relating to jazz in liverpool that will give us a historical background, which allows for us to be able to compare the past and present music scene. we researched the local jazz events that are going on in the city and are going to one on bold street later tonight. as well as this, we have compiled a list of potential locations to film at, as these bars/ cafes have live jazz bands.
