Here's an 'Ah-ha' moment for you; I sat down at my desk in the home office and pushed the power button on my laptop...While I waited for it to boot up, I grabbed my cup of tea from the kitchen and raised the windows in the office. When I went back to my chair, it still hadn't powered on. I pushed the power button two more times before looking down to the power strip. Apparently, I left the laptop in "sleep" mode,(yesterday) then inadvertently kicked the plug out of the power strip. My first thought was...all those wasted expletives in my head trying to turn on the device... My second thought was I should never visit someone on life support with my clutsy size 11 feet. Ahhhh. It's the weekend. No hurried morning to be onsite or prepare for a virtual meetings. The humidity has dropped, it's 70° and I can still smell the crepe myrtle and butterfly bush. JD got some fresh blueberries yesterday, so this morning he made a blueberry and lemon zest coffee cake... I thought I would have my breakfast and tea out back. The end of the weekend brought a beautiful sunset view from the bedroom window. And tonight JD was in charge of dinner before our virtual Happy Hour and some tasty Cab Franc. French Onion soup in bowls that JD made in pottery class. Also an "ah ha" moment from earlier today. I finally introduced myself to one of our new neighbors (a young couple that moved in the next building this past Summer. During our conversation I discovered that he had grown up in the neighborhood and attended the elementary school (just a block west of us) and the middle school (three blocks east of us). He remembered cut through the common walkeay behind our building and the garden space.... My first thought was, OMG! Is this one of the kids I wod chase out of the gardens, (before we had security cameras)? On my way home frome an IMAX screening of Steven Spielberg's recreation of West Side Story and a talk back afterwards with the leads of the movie. Rita Moreno is who I want to be when I grow up. Here's My Thanksgiving Prayer; I am Thankful that I woke up this morning. Thankful to be able to share this day with family and family of friends. Thankful to watch the people I love share in a meal made with love. Remembering those family members and friends that are no longer here. Thankful for new people in our lives and those to come. Remembering that not everyone is able to participate in the day. Hearts and prayers to those less fortunate. If you can, invite someone new to the table. The verdicts are in. I will tell that as a Black man who has been stopped without cause more times than I like to count and who has been made to feel uber cautious and vigilent when walking through a neighborhood that is predominantly White; I watched the trial with careful scrutiny. I usually keep politics and emotionally charged news off my feed, but I will give my reasons for this post; In the case of Kyle Rittenhouse, I watched the news as did many of us. So I have streamed the broadcast of the trial and listened with a discerning ear to the leagalise being tossed back and forth by the prosecution and defense and have yet to be convinced that Kyle did not act with deliberate and willful intent to put himself in the middle of a situation that would never have come to pass if he had just stayed home. (A whole state away). Secondly, the case of the McMichaels Trial, (presented in the American media as the Ahmaud Aubry Trial), which I have also been following is personally disturbing to me as a Black male. Interesting to note how each of this trials have been labeled; one in the name of a baby faced teen from middle America... The other monikered in the name of the victim.
