Romans 12
Message:
Integrity, Humility, Service and Love
Command:
(v.1) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
(v.2) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
(v.6 -15) We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
(v.21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Warning:
(v.3) For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
(v.16) Live in harmony with one another.
Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
(v.17-19) Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
Application:
If you are fond of highlighting favorite verses in the Bible, I know for sure that the whole book of Romans is completely shaded with your pen. On this chapter, it talks about 4 things that I used as a message on this devo;Integrity, Service, Humility, and Love.
As I define integrity, it is based on standing upon the truth rather than hypocrisy, doing what is right rather than what is easy. “Ang tama ay tama kahit ayaw ng lahat. Mali ay mali kahit gusto ng lahat,” (Hugot Kristiyano).
The world is tricky. It can blind you, deafen you, and lead you to destructionunknowingly. There are only two destinations as we take our journey on this earth, and many are heading to the wrong path. The current is strong but we must go against the flow. Only dead fishes goes with the flow. You are alive because HE is alive and HE lives within you.
But the challenge didn’t only limit there. Now that we know the truth, we shouldn’t look down on them telling that we are superior. Yes you live in truthbut can you see the challenge between those words, you we’re given a capability to be used as an instrument to lead those who live darkness into the marvellous light who is Jesus Christ.
Now this leads to service. We are all given with gifts and these should not  be hidden but they are meant to be given to others.
Now in all kinds of service, do these with love.

Plucking out the leaves won’t kill the plant, you need to target the root
(An essay about stopping terrorism)
Stop terrorism that’s what we want. Is wishing enough to halt this pandemic condition as we continually practice our Juan Tamad habit who always desires for something yet never makes an action to attain it?
We tend to join to the bandwagon as we hypocritically tweet #PrayForParis without even praying for the said country and not being aware of Lumad killings which is also problem happening inside our own motherland. How can we stop a fight if we are only busy on a puzzle piece without knowing the whole picture? We need to fully understand the real meaning of terrorism in order for us to know how to act on it.
An author of Applied Cryptography quoted that terrorism isn't just about destruction of people or property. It's a crime against our minds, using the death of innocents and destruction of property to make us fearful. Terrorists use the media to magnify their actions and further spread fear. And when we react out of fear, when we change our policy to make our country less open, the terrorists succeed -- even if their attacks fail. But when we refuse to be terrorized, when we're indomitable in the face of terror, the terrorists fail -- even if their attacks succeed.
When the terrorists attacked a certain established government, responders attempt to combat it by killing or making an appeasement with the leader or trying to kill all those who are responsible for the chaos.
But all these moves are failures, why?
Killing their leader is not the answer to stop terrorism. Terrorism are not only comprised of a leader, they are a group of people sharing the same ideology and they will never stop until they attain their goal. A death of a leader will only lead to assigning a new one and an imprisoned or dead Osama bin Laden will only become their rallying cry the same with the effect of Dr. Jose Rizal’s death to us and it would only arouse their desire for revenge.
Now killing all those who are part of it can theoretically be an effective way to stop terrorism but, practically this would be really tough which may lead to an impossible solution.
Before leaving the house, my mom always asks me to turn off the light. I won’t get a knife and destroy the light bulb instead I will go to its source and switch it off. Plucking out the leaves won’t kill the plant, you need to dig deeper and target the roots. In the same way, stopping terrorism cannot be done by killing the terrorist, you must target the root causes of it –fear, hatred, ignorance & innocence.
Terrorist are refurbished to become a perilous being by exploiting their darkest soul. Truth is they are fragile so what they would do is to kill the commoners whom in their sight are weak and the grief of the innocent will make them feel formidable. People should be educated before their minds were poisoned with pandemonium. As I scroll at my news feed an adage by Malala Yousafzai, the girl who came from a family uprooted with global terrorism who stood up for education caught my eye, “With guns you can kill terrorists, and with education you can kill terrorism.”
Faithit.com is one of the Christian blogs that always makes me inspire. A Gospel musician sent a letter to the killer in Facebook after a massacre happened in a closing service at their church and it made me a little teary eyed. So here it goes:
There’s still hope for these kind of people and Zak Ebrahim  is the living testimony for that as he shared his experience in TedTalks entitle I am the Son of a terrorist. Here's how I chose peace.
Tumblr media
You don’t need a gun to stop terrorism, it only needs a heart full of love and empathy to make this world a better place. I want to end this essay with a quotation by Martin Luther King Jr. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
