small reminder to everyone who is treated poorly for standing up for themselves,
your reactions to oppression, disrespect, or discrimination are not irrational,
you are not in the wrong for standing up for yourself and setting boundaries,
you are not bad for being angry at those who hurt you,
it is not rude to set boundaries,
you do not have to forgive,
it is okay to fight, resist, and rebel,
you do not owe kindness to those who do not treat you as human,
you do not have to kiss the boots that kick you.

Okay, I had to remind myself this today but! Rest is an activity. It's a gentle activity, yes, but it is an activity. You're not "doing nothing" you are recovering from whatever taxing thing and preparing for future taxing things. Lying there cranky about having to rest will ruin the quality of your rest. As will beating yourself up or being annoyed at yourself for "doing nothing." You're not doing nothing. You're investing time into giving your body the best shot it has at getting through tomorrow unscathed. Rest is something you Actively Choose To Do in order to Feel Better or at least Not Worse. It's like when you plug in a phone. You say it's charging. As in, charging is an activity the phone is doing. Charge your body too.

It’s okay to take that nap. To watch that movie while cozy in bed. To eat that treat, and a wholesome meal. You don’t have to earn it. You don’t have to rest to be able to push through later. You can just let go and relax for a bit, because you’re human and your body need it. 🌱🦋🌻

As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.

Daily Gratitude
January 23, 2025
What are you grateful for today?
Welcome to my gratitude support group! All are welcome to be a part of the gratitude crew. Re-blog, write a note or send an ask as often as makes sense for you (just once, every day, twice a year, a few times a month— doesn’t matter!)
I tag parts of the crew almost every day. If you’d like to be on the tag list let me know.
All posts will be tagged ‘resiliencewithin’s daily gratitude group’.
Prompt (if you want): Something you are proud of (big or small).

Professor and students prototype machine to unravel textiles for re-use rather than cutting them
University of Minnesota Duluth associate professor Abbie Clarke-Sather, Ph.D., envisions a world where textile recycling is commonplace. Where thrift stores, recycling facilities and clothing brands can manage their own textile waste, turning it back into fibers that can be reused instead of going to landfills by the literal millions of tons. She and her team have been developing the Fiber Shredder for the past six years. It’s a little bit of a misnomer, as the machine pulls apart textiles rather than cutting them, leaving the fibers longer and more usable for re-spinning. It does the job in about 90 seconds.
photo: Hira Durrani (left), who is working toward her master’s in applied material science at the University of Minnesota Duluth, has developed nonwovens from recycled cotton. Paulo Alves graduated with a master’s in mechanical engineering and is working with associate professor Abbie Clarke-Sather, Ph.D., at Waypoint Forward LLC to commercialize the machine.

Hi. Things are bleak, I know that. I know that we paid for Trump's last term with blood and it is likely the price will be blood again.
But listen to me. LISTEN.
You do not have to force yourself to witness horrors as an act of activism. It is not a form of activism. You can put your phone down, you can block that horrific video. We cannot win if you cannot fight and you will not be able to fight if you are hopeless.
Do not let them guilt you into this. People who are exhausted are easier to walk over. Take care of yourself, find community where you find joy.

Don’t forget to hydrate regularly!
Refill your water bottle/glass if you need to.
If you don’t find water appealing, try adding some electrolyte flavoring or a little bit of juice (like lemon). Milk, juice, and herbal teas are also hydrating.
If you haven’t eaten in a while, it might be time for a snack or a meal.
Don’t forget to clean your water bottle regularly, in order to prevent mold-related illness.
Use the facilities if you need to.
Happy scrolling!
