ezra and trouble went together like yin and yang. not long after arriving to the party, he had already drank shot of jager and found himself in the back outside the club. with a spray paint can ( that he didn’t bring ) in hand, and a cigarette between his lips, he found himself scrawling graffiti against the brick. upon hearing footsteps, he looked over his shoulder. “you like it? ‘s a lotus flower – this place reminded me of that scene in the percy jackson movie.. so.” he used his free hand to remove the cigarette and silently offered it.

jason wasn’t the best at parties. the whole mixing and mingling thing threw him for a loop every time, though he frequented them quite often despite that. he liked being there in case someone was too drunk or being creeped on. however, the club was very crowded, it being halloween, and he needed to get some air before he passed out from smoke inhalation, given the amount inside. outside, he found more smoke, but from a single, much more manageable source. “don’t eat the flowers,” he mumbled, glancing at the flower, taking a step back to look at it. “would be prettier in a gradient. better than the shit already there.”

ara couldn’t help but grin a bit as she watched jason blush at her prodding questions. “there’s no way you would have bothered him, i guarantee it. next time you should just go for it! i swear, drawings are the perfect icebreaker - especially your drawings.” she wasn’t the most confident herself but she hated seeing her friends stay in their little bubble for too long. when he held out the book she immediately grasped it and pulled out her phone with a gasp. “oh my god, you made me look a hundred times better than i do in real life. can i post it on instagram? i’ll tag you, i promise.”

rolling his eyes at her overconfidence in his ability not to completely and utterly embarrass himself in someone — really, it was impressive, he could hardly speak to her, let alone someone he actually had a romantic interest in — he gently tore the page out of his notebook, trying not to mess up the seams or any of the drawing, which could present a challenge. “hey, i drew a picture of you and thought you should see it,” he tested, only a little bit mocking. “that’s not creepy at all. post it where you want, it’s of you.”

that was the question, wasn’t it. one that brielle battled with everyday : the piling obligations to do this, to be here, to do that. it was the pressure building, the weight of the world settling on her shoulders. at least she was getting better at coping. that still didn’t mean it wasn’t hard. “ who wants to do anything, jason ? ” her voice sounds accusing. “ some things just need to be done. like saving the environment. mother earth - you’ve heard of her, right ? ” lip curls. “ don’t tell me you don’t care ? ” 

shrugging, lifting his eyebrows in more amusement at her reaction. truth was, he was pretty sure robots would take over before the environment was irreparably damaged, and they could enforce solar power. provided they figured out how to get weapons and wanted to ensure their own survival. but he couldn’t very well say that outloud. “i recycle,” he said instead. “that’s enough.”
