Little old Italian lady: Do you have zucchini?
Me: Yes, right here.
Lady: Is how much?
Me: $2.99 a pound.
Lady: It's usually $1.49.
Me: Yes, in the summer.
Lady, pauses, then grabs two: I put it in a soup.
Me: Oh nice, what kind are you making?
Lady: You will not fantasize about my soup.
And then she walked away. "You will not fantasize about my soup" will be in my head forever. I love you, little old Italian lady.

I’d like to dedicate this art show to my grandfather, Manuel Game Peña (an Ecuadorian Sailor who fought in Ecuador’s “BatTle of Jambeli” in 1941 and represented a real-life Popeye to me growing up), Elzie Crisler Segar (The father / creator of Popeye, and a big influence in my art), Jack Mercer (the iconic popeye voice we all know), and Robin Williams (the wonderful actor who brought the legendary sailor to the big screen).
All these men represent Popeye to me and have inspired me throughout the years to have strength & courage as an artist and person. That is the real symbolism about Popeye the sailor, doing the right thing and being strong throughout any time or situation. to stand up for yourself. So if I’m ever in trouble or sad, I just have to think, what would Popeye do?
Stay strong to the finich!
