Trixie is the only one who calls Starlight by her first name, most others only know her as "Patron Pearl" or just Pearl. They feed off one another despite their goals being quite different. Pearl wants to expand her influence and take her rightful place as an alicorn Patron, while Trixie just wants to make as much money and mischief as possible. She doesn't rlly care about or necessarily believe all of Pearls ramblings but boy does she love a crazy women.

Like how did they meet, for example?

Was Trixie just rolling through towns, doing her thing, when she stumbled upon an entire cult village being run by a pretty lady and thought to herself “sure why not? This seems like fun.”

They actually met at one of Trixie's magic shows in the Crystal Kingdom! Pearl was more interested in Trixie's ability to captivate ponies and her almost unnatural amount of power. She was even more interested when she realized she was in possession of the alicorn amulet.

At first, Pearl wanted to use her, maintaining control over the amulet vicariously by controlling Trixie. She tried to get her to join the severed, but you can't con a con-woman. When that didn't work Pearl tried to secretly get rid of her(Causing catastrophic accidents at her shows, even hiring a hitpony as some point) but every single attempt was met with Trixie coming out inexplicably unharmed.

The entire time this was happening Trixie was under the impression that they were both flirting with each other.

Eventually Pearl realized that she stopped trying to kill Trixie and that she was actually pretty useful when she wasn't running a scam. So she just kinda sucked it up and told herself she'd deal with her in the future, after she stopped being useful.(Trixie says that means they're dating)
