Magickal Folk Names for Herbs
Tumblr media
Having knowledge of herbs and plants (either magically or medicinally) during the Middle Ages, often was reason enough to accuse a woman of being a “witch,” so there is no doubt some of the country folk at the time took these herbal folk names literal.  Chances are, these names were used merely as descriptors to help remember them easier.  Most plants were given names descriptive of their uses and others were given names for something they generally resembled. Spells written by witches in ancient times were often written with such descriptors, which personally i believe to be a form of secret coding.
Here is a small list of “witchy” herb names (most of these are already floating around the community) that you can use in your craft when you create your spells.  This list could be a great addition to any Grimoire and i hope you find them as useful as i do.
Enjoy ~~~  Cannawitch

Casting circles
When you read my posts it’s always “circle this” or “circle that”. To the new witches it might be confusing! “Circle what, Mama Swoon?” you might wonder.
Well, my sweet child, I’m going to tell you everything I know about the circles.
What is a circle?
A circle is a form of magical barrier that acts as a form of protection and an energy guard.
It stops your energy from leaking all over the place, but it also stops other energies from messing with your work. Pretty cool, huh?
It’s a form of protection magic, brah
How to circle?
There are many ways to make a circle. From drawing it in the air with your finger, over marking it with elemental representatives, to physically forming one with … rocks?
My point is - it can be as elaborate or simple as you wish.
Here goes my method…
Gather the things you’ll need (staff, candles, red cord, the elements)
Make a pentagram out of candles, light them up
Form a circle out of red cord
Take your staff, bang it three times in the direction of north, speak The Words, repeat for each element
Done
The Words: “I invite you, Guardian of (element, land direction), to help me in this (whatever you’re doing), to protect me, and keep order.”
After you’re done with whatever, thank the elements and say bye bye to them.
Aftermath?
Just breakthe circle with a thanks to everyone andd stating CLEARLY that the ritual (or whatever) is done and that the circle is broken. No need to cleanse or anything because circles are super easy (at least for me) and they don’t sip a lot of energy.
Alright, guys, I think this is everything… I am sick and I feel terrible, so if I forgot anything… My apologies.
- Love, Mama SwoonSwoon

💀TOXIC CRYSTALS💀
Tumblr media
PLEASE always do your research before handling any crystal in any way. Some crystals contain trace amounts of potentially harmful elements if handled or ingested in excess amounts (and some not so excessively). For this reason, it is extremely important to be aware of what you are handling and how to appropriately handle it.
This is not meant to induce fear, but instead to educate. Most of the crystals here are listed to be cautious of internal use with a few being cautionary for external use.  Please pay close attention to this list when you are working with raw  specimens. Tumbled/coated crystals aren’t typically harmful, with a few exceptions such as Realgar. NOTE: Before making any elixir or charging any water, it is a good idea to double check for any possible toxicity that may occur. Using several stones in combination can cause an elemental reaction between the stones that can potentially be dangerous.
When in doubt, do your research.

“I’m a baby witch! What do I start learning?”
Here’s a quick-and-dirty list of things that I think sets up a good foundation for someone moving forward with magic work and why. They’re also in order of what I think is best approached first. (For a time reference, I recommend the whole thing taking at LEAST a year, but individual steps and overall length will vary in each person.)
Learn basic magical theory. What is happening when you cast a spell? What is grounding? How do correspondences work? Why is X step or tool important? Learn about what it is you’re doing before diving into actual casting. Have a basic grip on how it works.
Some form of divination, even if it’s something as simple as a pendulum. Other people won’t always be there to help you answer questions, validate your interpretation of something, or offer direction. Having some form of divination under your belt helps you avoid dependency on other people. You can more easily answer your own questions, check your own intuition, and take matters into your own hands.
Protection and Cleansing. No matter what path you go down or what type of magic you end up doing, these are two things that every magic worker needs to know how to do, and know how to do it well. They also tend to be fairly straightforward to learn. Cleanse your space, cleanse yourself, cleanse that object, cleanse your grandma. Then protect them. Learn how to set up wards and shields, which brings us to….
Basic energy work. You’ve probably already run into it a lot by this point and it’s fine if you’ve already picked up some things. But now is the time to really focus on it and get comfortable with it. Learn how to confidently sense what’s around you and interact with it, fix gaps in your wards and shields, project your intent into things, you get the idea. Energy work will always be there in a pinch and requires no materials besides your body, and is extremely versatile. Plus, most paths really require at least a base-level understanding of it these days. Can’t hurt.
Start honing your specific path. Here’s where the cookbooks, the old graveyards, the skulls on the shelf, the fairy figurines start really coming into play. If you have an idea of what sort of path you’d like to follow, start really getting into the meat of it! What does it look like? What are the first steps to that type of magic? If for now you’re still eclectic or aren’t sure, then just read what interests you or try more advanced general spells than you have so far.
Go back and do it all again. That’s right. You can also put time into your path or your regular research, but go back and pick up those old books from step one. Read the old articles. Return to the basics and see how your views have become more nuanced, or how you disagree. What details flew over your head the first time? Can you pick up a new form of divination or try something new with your main form? Could those wards and shields be stronger? You get the idea. Once you’ve revisited it, you should have a really solid foundation that will help you no matter what direction you take next!
Other stuff to study on the side: Local folklore, mythology, and types of spirits. You may not want to work with spirits, but sometimes spirits want to work with you! So it’s good to have an idea of what to do if they pop up.  What plants grow in your area? What‘s edible? What is used in healing?  What plants are NOT edible in your area? What’s poisonous?
If you think there’s another important step that you recommend that I didn’t include, feel free to add it! :)

Cleansing Crystals Methods
1.  Pass them through incense smoke.
An easy way to rid any clinging energy from your crystals is to pass them through a stream of incense smoke. Not only does this method also cleanse your space, but you can re-charge your crystals for a new purpose at the same time. We recommend using frankincense for basic cleansing, benzoin resin for bringing calm, and dragon’s blood for increasing energy vibrations.
2.  Dip them in charged water.
Place them in a bowl of water charged under the full moon, or submerge them in a naturally running stream to send negative energies away. In the winter, crystals can be buried in the snow for a few hours with the same effect. Water is a powerful energy-force and giver of life, well suited to cleansing people and tools alike. Make note that this method is not suitable for porous or metallic crystals.
3.  Cover them in sea salt.
Take a container made of a natural substance (like glass, wood, ceramic) and fill the bottom with sea salt. Add in your crystals, then cover with more salt. Wait at least one day, then take them out and they’re ready to use. Salt is one of the greatest energy purifiers out there, and it’s also easy and cheap to come by. Sea salt is preferred because the most natural and absorptive type of salt.
4.  Let them bathe in the moonlight.
The simplest (and safest) way to cleanse your beauties is to let them soak up the purifying energy of the moonlight. Lay them out on the night of the full moon where the soft, purifying glow of the moonlight can illuminate them, then bring them inside come morning. Placing them on a window sill with moonlight is a suitable alternative if you cannot place them outdoors.
