Computer as Theatre
“In interface design, graphic designers and animators make the same sorts of contributions.“ Animator render the objects and environments to create a great using experience for customer.
“Both theatrical design and interface design are aimed at creating representations of worlds that are like reality, only different.“ Otherwise, interface is the entrance for user entering the world designers create.
Interactivity could be infuence by three elements: frequency, range and significance. These three aspects can decide how much the users can participate in the work.
“Seriousness in human-computer activities is a thresholdy thing.“ It is important to think about serious and non-serious or playful a work should be.

Response of MIRANDA JAVID’s Lecture
Miranda Javid is a writer, animator and art-educator. Her works are mostly motion pictures or animation. In this lecture the most important work she presents is her recent work “Smoke’s Last Thought”. This 15 mins animated film won many awards for her. It is a hand-draw animation, which is the main way of her creating her work, though her arm was hurt by the uncorrect sitting posture.
She expressed all her process of making this film. Her storyboard, the song in the film, her experiments and so on. Her idea of this work is starts with individual and expand to community.
It is amazing to see the motion of the smoke in the film. The style and color of the picture are full of expressive force. I tried to make a hand-draw animation once. It was hard and cost time. It is amazing that a hand-draw animation could be that fluency. The motion of the smoke is also beautiful and realistic. I really learnt a lot as an animator from this lecture.

Digital Technologies as a Tool
In Christiane Paul’s book Digital Art, he demonstrated how digital technologies work for art creation and how artists use them as a tool to create art works. He gave many examples to explain not only in photography, video and film, but also in sculpture. It is amazing to see digital technoligies, which are mordern techniques, work with art together and create these amazing stuffs.
However, after reading this chapter of the book, I have some questions to think about.
The first is that what is the advantage of digital art?
As Paul said in his book, “One of the most basic of them is that this medium allows for multiple kinds of manipulation and a seamlesscombination of art forms, which can lead to a blurring of the distinctions between different media.” Digital technologies can combine different media and different form of art together to create a new form of work. It is about combination and appropriation.
Secondly, how can digital art influence the way of thinking of the artists?
It can easily see that the digital technology makes artist easily achieve many things. It is much easier to combine things from real world and vitual world together. Then, is there some difference for artists to think with these new techniques to use?
Last but not least, if digital technologies are widely used, where does the traditional art go?
I think these questions could be discussed.

Anti-Apathy Project
In public schools and colleges bullying is a serious problem that people need to pay attention to. Bullying is the 21st social issues that “You care about most” according to the website, Ranker. https://www.ranker.com/list/social-issues-in-america-that-you-care-about-most/mike-rothschild
There was a survey about how the teachers deal with the bullying problem. It was surprising to see that 46.59% teacher chose not to pursue, since they held an opinion that it takes two to make a quarrel.
Therefore, I want to make a project to satire this issue.
A teacher who doesn't care about his students is worse than a monster

Response to Nick Pedersen’s Lecture
Nick Pedersen is a photographer and an artist. His work is always about the nature and environmental issues. He took pictures and combine them together by using photoshop and make them into art pieces. They are all look real and amazing, and also have some satire meaning.
During his lecture, he had talked about some of his works and showed his process of creating them. He travel to some place to take photos of lanscape, creature or anything he thinks he can use in his work.
It is very interesting to see how he work on his art pieces. With the combination of real stuffs, he used them to create fantasy and beautiful worlds but can tell some meaning to the viewers.
In Semeru, he incorporated eastern philosophy to talk about the true nature and environment. For Ultima, he showed three different world with three different environment. And in Flowting-world, the pictures shows that the whole world is half in sea and are expressing weather issues.
His works are full of power. The rich details give people a real feeling. As a new art student, I really appriciate his way of creating art and his thinking of the world. Art comes from our life, and the most important sprit I learn from him is to experience. When he wants to create a work, he will travel to the place and take pictures. I think this is a great way to record and experience, in order to express the correct feeling.

Whistleblower Document
Whistleblower is an award that to encourage people to be whistleblowers. The reading is about a report of the President of the United States uses the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election.
I think this award is a great way to constraint on the government. With this award and protection, people can be brave enough to prosecute the government for improper measures, and it could be a great way to let the government to stay in health.

Comments of CNN images
I saw the images. It gives a feeling of how poor the Appalachia is, which is the region the Stacy Kranitz documented. I think the reason why some of the people who actually from that area feels upset is because there are too many report of how poor this area is, which actually not that much. Everyone know this region is poor, people live in a hard life. But no one actually cares about them. Nothing will be change no matter how much the photo be taken and be posted. I think the best way of documenting people’s life is to research what is the actual problem for them.

What Good is Political Art in Times Like These?
This is a response of the reading assignment this week.
The article made a discussion about political art in the contemporary time.
After reading this article, several questions came out: What art is political art? What role does it play in art? What is the best relationship between art and politics? In the perspective of myself, I always think art is a private expression which is weak but powerful. It can be influence by politics a lot but it also is a powerful tool to fight for human being. I really agree with the idea that we should not judge art by how it works to government but by how it means to the whole world.

Example of an artist who uses appropriation
Eiichiro Oda, who is a famous cartoonist in Japan, uses appropriation a lot. He used to be an assistant of another famous cartoonist, Mikami Nachi, who is the author of “Dragon Ball”. After Eiichiro leaving Mikami’s studio and began his manga serial “One Piece”, he always use some elements from “Dragon Ball“ to show respects to Mikami. He draw architecture shaped same as the building in “Dragon Ball“, use the iconic posture from “Dragon Ball” and also draw some characters of “Dragon Ball“ and hide them in the corner of the shot. Also, he use elements from some Disney film. I think he is an example of an artist who uses appropriation.
