SPRING 2017
Masquerade Grand Prix // Snapchat/Selfies
Our project was inspired by the Sealine field trip we had before Spring Break. The topic we chose as a group, was snapchat/selfies, both that were used throughout the entire trip to create memories. I was assigned to create two cars from different angles, snapchat screen (w/ logo), heart filter and painting the thumb.
A 6-week group project/module isn’t easy at all, as there are a lot of ideas and complications, but that’s what makes it a group after all. At the end of the day all the arguments and hard work paid off well.

SPRING 2017
Graphic Design Project // Pictograms
This was also another project class I enjoyed thoroughly. Symbolizing a personal favorite object (ice-cream), and giving it an identity was something I got hooked on. There are so many different ways to depict pictograms and that is what made things much more interesting than it was.

SPRING 2017
Painting & Printmaking // Cyanotype Mural and Block Printing
I wasn’t aware of what PAPR was like until this project class, and I’m glad it got rid of any misconceptions we had. There were plenty of machines and tools to be used, and numerous approaches as well.
I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this project class, but I really did. It was a great experience as I was introduced to things that I didn’t know of in the past.

SPRING 2017
Tissue Issue // No Cat, No Cry
From taking pictures of tissue boxes kept in random places to creating a tissue box from scratch to fit with the subject...
My partner and I decided to create a tissue box that depicted animals (since we’re both animal lovers) and form a story out of it. We used the cat/dog, love/hate relationship as the focal point.
It was stressful working with an animal for obvious reasons, and I wasn’t really pleased with the outcome of it.

SPRING 2017
Frottage
This 3-week long module consisted of individual and group work, on rubbings by hand that was rendered and developed into an interesting outcome.
The first three photos are my individual work (2 digital + 1 handmade).
Not only was this hectic, but it wasn’t something I enjoyed. However, all the hard work, effort and messy charcoal-y hands put into this paid off at the end of the day.

SPRING 2017
Scratch N Gif (1/2)
This module focused on using emojis and sounds only, to create a video under 30 seconds as a form of communication.
My video is a horror film night at the cinema.
This is my favorite module of Spring 2017! I loved using a variety emojis to create something else. More than that, I loved designing the posters, backgrounds and creating spaces for the characters in the video. Having to create designs from scratch using emojis on software was entertaining, and took me back to the time when I was obsessed with home design games.

SPRING 2017
Kinetics of the Phantom Object (1/2)
This module was all about kinetics, inspired by our Doing Easy video from Fall semester. The focus was on a repetitive movement in our video.
It was my first time experimenting with wood, and using the woodshop, and I absolutely loved it. I took advantage of all the machines and tools that were present. It was undoubtedly a nerve-racking module, but the learning outcome was remarkable. That being said, I love getting my hands on with mediums I use and that is what makes it enjoyable.

SPRING 2017
Interior Design Project // Borrowed Spaces
This was, of course, my favorite project and I enjoyed it immensely. I’ve never realized the posture and position of how I sit in various places, until this project class. Having asked to upload photos of the range of places I sat on, choose the interesting one, and try to make it a more comfortable space was a challenge.
I used the counter-top in the residential dorms as my focus, as I sit on that while waiting for my food to heat. I created my final with foam board, cardboard, and a piece of styrofoam wrapped with a cloth, so that it wouldn’t cause any back pain. A mini-me was used alongside for scale proportions!

SPRING 2017
GIF Block / Surface Ur-Face (1/2)
This module was interesting and a fast-paced one. The shift from creating a GIF block to edit the scans of our faces was completely unexpected. It was entertaining to edit our faces in a way that didn’t look like a face anymore; the ugly, the better!
Here’s another module that was all about experimentation, and exploration. I really enjoyed transferring the handmade ones into digital form (hybrid).

SPRING 2017
Fashion Design Project // Pockets
In this module, a pocket had to be created for a certain object that we chose ourselves.
This was by far my least favorite project class. Even though it depicted a minuscule fraction of the major, I realized that it wasn’t something I’d love to be doing. However, I was fast to pick up on sewing, and loved learning new crafty things. My pocket was designed for a person (like myself) who’d like to sketch or write down things easily wherever they went.

FALL 2016
Animated Figure
This module focuses on drawings of our movements which are converted into a gif, after rendering and adding value to each and every drawing.
This was another project that I didn’t quite enjoy as much. I couldn’t get the application of tints and values into each of the drawings, and found it not difficult, but exhausting. However, like always, the learning outcome was a great deal. Even though I wasn’t satisfied with my final, I learned some principles of design and the patience of a bulky task.

FALL 2016
Collage (2/2)
My final work had a vast number of things going on that I didn’t realize at the time. I love flowers, so I used that for my piece, and repeated the circularity of not just the obvious circles, but the seats with the water body and the arches.
The module was tough at first, but gradually became easier and fun to work with. It brought out a lot of creativity and eye for detail.

FALL 2016
Collage (1/2)
I loved every bit of this module, as I believe I enjoyed what I did and worked hard for it. I’ve picked out a few of my favorite collages (handmade + digital) that I loved working on. These collages didn’t necessarily have to “make sense”, rather have a connection between the strength of the principles and images used (magazines or material from books).
Not only did I learn about composition, repetition, and emphasis, I learned about color theory, which I believe is a crucial aspect of design. Some of these collages seem to have a hidden meaning behind it, and I’m always curious to find out what it could mean.

FALL 2016
Casting Solids and Sections
This module was all about creating various kinds of shapes bearing the method of casting. It involved principles that focused on balance, composition, form and aesthetics.
I personally didn’t enjoy this module as much as I thought that I would. I loved the process of experimentation and creating assorted shapes, but I didn’t find the medium of plaster to be working with as a favorite, and gradually found it harder to create something better.
