One of my favorite things about The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals is that it’s iconic saying, think about the implications, is so true. The musical infection is all pretty lighthearted at first, even funny, but as you go forward there starts to be moments that really make you step back and think. When you do that you realize the actual horror of the character scenario. My favorite moment of this is in What do You Want Paul. When Mr. Davidson calls his wife he suddenly seems like he breaks out of a trance and tells his wife goodbye, he then immediately starts singing again. It’s funny at the time but then you realize, he was telling his wife goodbye… he knew that it wouldn’t be “him” who saw his wife again. He snapped out of it to tell his wife goodbye and when you realize that it’s heart wrenching. TGWDLM is full of moments like this and that’s why it’s one of my favorites.
