jemma's emotional processing man. how has she gone this far without internally combusting from everything she's been holding back??? like, regardless of whether she's struggling emotionally (s5 and being back in space), mentally (s2 and s3), or physically (basically every time she's hurt or tortured), she always shuts everyone out and there is no way in hell that it works/is healthy. and, in contrast to other characters, she constantly insists that she's okay when it is incredibly clear she's not fine at all. this obviously got worse after leaving shield and pretty much isolating herself outside of work. it all goes back to her trauma repression. s2, she's struggling with what happened after ward dropped her and fitz in the ocean. cue her obsession with powered people and later getting revenge on him, which caused the death of bakshi. s3, it's obvious to everybody that she isn't okay after maveth. she tells them she's fine, despite her breaking down crying at a restaurant and even becoming obsessed with reopening the monolith. and elizabeth portrays it all so well. even when she does cry/let herself be emotional, you can tell just how much she's fighting it and trying not to break. i honestly don't get how everyone expects her/she expects herself to be able to be there for everyone else when she can't even be there for herself (*cough* another coping mechanism *cough*). and while i don't expect fitz to be fully aware of absolutely everything going on, it's sort of baffling how in 6x06 he says he didn't realize how much she was holding onto. her emotional processing is unhealthy enough as it is, but her trauma processing is nonexistent. i dont think she even knows how bad she gets sometimes. i know that these are fictional characters and it technically does not matter, but it really goes to show what experiences like that can do to your mental state. add in an unhealthy relationship and it's so much worse.
