I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD

Humans have finally managed to land on Mars, only to find a locked safe buried in the Martian soil. The key is apparently on Earth, but no one knows where.

For the last goddamn time...
"Kill your darlings" means "if something is holding you back, get rid of it, even if it sounds pretty."
That's it! That's all it means! It means if you're stuck and stalled out on your story and you could fix the whole block by removing something but you're avoiding removing that thing because it's good, you remove that thing. That's the darling.
It does NOT mean
That you have to get rid of your self-indulgent writing
That you should delete something just because you like it (?wtf?)
That you need to kill off characters (??? what)
That you have to pare your story down to the absolute bare bones
That you have to delete anything whatsoever if you don't want to
The POINT is that you STOP FEELING GUILTY for throwing out good writing that isn't SERVING THE STORY.
The POINT is that you don't get so HUNG UP on the details that you lose sight of the BIG PICTURE.
Good grief....

Readers have it all wrong. Writers don't torment our characters. We torment you.
If you are angry at the things our characters have to go through. If you weep for them, cheer with them, smile with them, we've done our job and made you feel something.
Remember that the next time you tell a writer we're a monster. We made you feel, and that, dear reader, is our victory.

Epic Smack talking
The Devil whispered in my ear, "You're not strong enough to withstand the storm."
I whispered back "At least I didn't lose my golden fiddle to some hillbilly in Georgia."

what if you adopted a huge mutt from the pound and later you found out it was a werewolf who was staying in canid form for tax evasion purposes. and what’s more fucked up is that you already love your dog and you’ve had them for a while when you find out he’s been just some guy. what then

“How can you not be angry?”
“I am angry,” the werewolf said. “But unlike you, I don’t have the luxury of showing it without being called a monster. Without someone taking it as a sign of proof that I need to be put down like a rabid dog, that I’m just like what the stories tell you.”
“But everyone gets angry…that’s human.”
“Up until the point when you’re not human.”

Don’t mind me…I’m just thinking about how spiders are naturally talented and skilled weavers and they know how to weave their webs and even make functional, stylish homes and nests and whatnot.
So maybe that’s why Spider-Man knows how to sew his suits. He inherited that trait from the spider and just instinctively know how to weave his suits. Maybe. That’s my explanation for it.
