HUMAN DIGNITY AND RIGHTS
Human rights is a set of norms and principles that define a standard for human behavior. Human rights are rights of people regardless of their age, gender, race, and religion or any other status. Human rights are being violated by ignoring, or worse abusing basic human rights and can be given arrest and detention without given a warrant arrest. Today, Human Rights have been neglected and ignored by the Duterte Administration. Extrajudicial Killings have been very rampant since his presidency. Which must be addressed as soon as possible since this violates the human rights of these people, whom may be innocent. Every Filipino has the right to due process. This government has been focusing on anti-drug enforcements, shoot-to-kill orders for people, mostly impoverished and people below the poverty line, violating illegal drug-related laws whilst Filipino people in the upper class has been escaping from these violations. Every Filipino has rights. No one regardless of the status in life can take that away from you. People especially children must be educated about human rights. This issue is very important right now and must not be ignored.

HIV Awareness - as subsititute to missed CM for Drug Education
Human immunodeficiency virus or HIV is a virus that attacks White blood cells, specifically T-cells, which fight foreign invading organisms which weakens the immune system of a person. When HIV is untreated, it leads to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome of AIDS. HIV may be transmitted through several modes; Semen, blood, and for women, breastmilk. As of now, the DOH has ben giving free anti-retro viral drugs to stop the spread of HIV in the human body. Take note that this doesn’t cure or eliminate HIV but stops its growth. As early as possible, we must be informed about this disease. For people who are suffering from this disease, we must not forget that these people need help rather than judgement and being ridiculed. A person living with HIV doesn’t make them different from everybody, and we must be supportive and give every help they need to battle this disease. Being informed about this pandemic, helps to prevent this disease to eventually eliminate this virus that is why scientists and researchers also needs the support (monetary) they need to perform clinical trial to hopefully eliminate this disease.

SELF AND OTHERS and UP ASH CODE
On this day, we get to learn about ourselves. Why we specifically behave to specific situation and also our personality. As seen on the picture, there is a psychoanalytic approach to personality. This type of approach was made by Sigmund Freud. This approach focused on how the conscious affect our behavior. Freud made a model of the psyche which is composed of the Id, Superego and Ego which are totally distinct from each other. The speaker also talked about the Myers-Briggs Personalities, 16 of them. Introvert or Extrovert. Sensing of Intuitive, Thinking or Feeling, and Judgers or Perceivers. One flaw of this personality test is its dichotomy, the personality type of a person is considered to be a spectrum, it can you can be a little of a thinker and more of a feeler, same goes for the other types mentioned.
The UP Anti-Sexual Harassment Code or the UP ASH Code approved by the Board of Regents to protect the dignity and human rights of every UP student, faculty and staffs. This was done to eliminate sexual harassment inside the campus. Written in the UP ASH CODE are the levels of violations a person can do and its corresponding measure and punishments.

FIRST AID
On this day, we were taught about basic life support and First Aid. First Aid is to assist a person in medical need to give the necessary emergency treatment before the condition or injury of the patient worsens. The speakers gave much about all these types of injuries, on how to give first aid and the what necessary materials should be used to apply first aid. On the second part of the talk, we were taught about CPR. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR is an emergency procedure given to patients in a state of cardiac arrest. The speakers taught on how to properly give CPR to patients in need. Checking first if the patient gives any signs of responsiveness. Check also if something is obstructing the air passageway of the person. If none, then apply pressure to the chest by placing both of your hands on the chest specifically two fingers away from the nipple. Start pumping it without bending the elbows and start counting to 30. Get a pause after 20 counts, check if the person may give sign of responsiveness then finish the 30 counts. Repeat these steps if still necessary.

SERVICE TO THE NATION AND PEOPLE:
In this common module, we watched the documentary, Give Up Tomorrow, about the case of the Chiong Sisters, which was hailed as the ‘Trial of the Century’. This documentary was made for the viewers to see how ludicrous the Justice system works in the Philippines. On July 16, 1997, the sisters were reported missing while waiting for a ride home at a mall in Cebu City. An unindentified body was found in Carcar and was assumed to be the body of one of the Chiong sisters. Fransisco ‘Paco’ Larranaga, who was in Quezon City the day the Chiong Sisters were missing, was convicted along with 7 other men for the alleged crime. Friends, airline personnel, and teachers of Paco defended him and supported the claim that he was in Quezon City on the day of the murder. Paco and 7 other men were wrongly accused of the deed they didn’t do, and were sentenced to death by lethal injection. This case was an example of how the abuse of power can ruin an innocent man’s life. Up to this day, one of the Chiong sister’s body hasn’t been found yet, and Paco is still in jail.

[101518]
This session talked mostly about the RA 9003 or the ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT of 2000. The Ecological Waste Management Act of 2000 provides an ecological waste management program and describes it as a discipline to control generation, storage and disposal of solid wastes. The speaker was talking about how to segregate solid wastes properly. In the past, wastes are separated into two. BIODEGRADABLES, which are originating from plant and animal waste that can be composted or turned into fertilizers; and NON-BIODEGRADABLES, which are wasted that cannot be broken down. Examples of these are plastics, metals, and glass. Through the act, one was added which is the RESIDUALS. These are NON-BIODEGRADABLE materials which can be reused for other purposes. This was done to lessen the wastes that are being dump on sites. This also encourages us to recycle things that may be used for other purposes.

[100818] Gender and Development and UP ASH Code
This talk was all about SOGIE: Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression. These three terms were differentiated by the speaker, a member from the UP Babaylan. People, especially FIlipinos must be informed about SOGIE. We live in a society in which majority of the population are Catholics and choose to follow traditions of this religion which can be problematic for some instances. The amount of discrimination the LGBTQI+ community received from people has been very insane and unjustifiable.
The three important terms: Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression may seem similar, but these terms are very different from each other.
Sexual Orientation- this is the person’s sexual identity in relation to the gender which they are attracted to.
Gender Identity - this is a personal sense of one’s own gender. Your gender identity may match with the assigned gender at birth, or may differ.
Gender Expression - this is how a person outwardly shows their gender identity which includes the pronoun you want to choose, social expressions, and a person’s clothing.
The speaker has laid down many examples of types of these terms and pointed out that these are not binary, whereas it is a spectrum. That you can be a little of this and more of that or the other.
When you are a boy, you must act like a boy.
When you’re a girl, you must act like a girl.
One root of this discrimination is that when a baby is born, hospitals assign the babies gender at birth based on its biological characteristics. Which can be very problematic. The child isn’t given a chance to choose his identity as a person but is forced to conform to the society’s idea of gender.  This is also prevalent in the workforce. The society tends to assign gender roles on work, which is also problematic.
Why are you working? You are a girl you must be inside the house and take care of the children.
Why are you staying in the house? Be man and and have balls!
In the Philippine context, the LGBTQI+ community continues to be discriminated, and is given limited opportunities in the workforce. This discriminaton must be eradicated. People must be given a chance to choose on what they want, what they want to be, and what they want to do in their lives. This doesn’t apply only on the LGBTQI+ community but everyone.

[092418] Philippine Society and Culture
Our speaker for the talk about Philippine Society and Culture is Dr. Gerry Lanuza, a sociologist and a professor of the College of Social Science and Philosophy in the University of the Philippines Diliman. He talked about what type of society Philippines has, which is a semi-colonial and a semi-feudal society. Since a concept of landlordism is present, which started during Spanish colonial era where Haciendas owned by religious orders, namely Dominicans, Recollects, Jesuits. “Tenants” have no share on the crops they planted since they work for these owners of the haciendas, basically this becomes their payment for the rent. He also briefly talked about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Which he pointed out that physiological needs must be prioritized over the other. One thought that I didn’t forget was about poverty and its cause. Since overpopulation has become a huge problem in this country and poverty rate is increasing, many people have said that OVERPOPULATION IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF POVERTY. Professor Lanuza says otherwise. POVERTY IS THE REASON WHY PHILIPPINES IS POPULATED because for him, having a child is an economical investment. He also emphasized to support local products ans Supporting local products means supporting the Filipino people.

[091718] Nationalism and Citizenship
This has been so far the most informative talk I have ever participated. The talk was about Nationalism and Citizenship by Dr. Maria Serena Diokno, a professor in the Department of History, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines. First thing she did was ask us what nationalism and citizenship was. It sounded the same to me but she made a clear distinction between the two terms. Nationalism was about ‘belongingness’ to a particular country while citizenship may be acquired given that you satisfy a set of requirements in a country. She also talk about how the people should be informed about everything that is happening in our country. As a citizen of this country, it is our responsibility to know, be fully aware of what is happening, and to deduce which information to trust. The spread of fake news has been rampant nowadays, making us disinformed about practically everything. The government has been manipulating media and other government agencies to disinform us. This has become very problematic as this issue as this avoids the Filipino people to know the truth. As UP students and citizens of The Philippines, we should be knowledgeable about these kinds of issues, to verify first every information we get especially in social media.

[091018] Katatagan Fair 2018
On this day, through the UP Padayon Public Service Office, UP Resilience Institute, and other offices throughout the campus rendered an orientation on Disaster Risk and Reduction Management. There were several stalls to have more in-depth and hands-on experience for students (Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Red Cross, etc.) Since my schedule was only until 11:30, I only got to listen to Atty. Spocky Farolan’s talk in which he gave emphasis to the importance of disaster risk and reduction management, on what a person should do and not do in times of danger and emergencies. He mentioned that respective colleges in the university must conduct emergency drills regularly, and I think our college must follow this. I never knew that it was a law and I never experienced emergency drills since I got into UP, and every student must be aware and be alert every time. Since I take laboratory classes, we always got false alarms (credit given to the state-of-the-art smoke detectors in the building), but we never responded to those alarms. We continued our classes when alarms were ringing so loudly and I think this should at least be addressed or better yet conduct emergency drills. UP has everything we need when emergencies happen, we all just need to be informed and educated to these things to lessen damages and avoid fatalities.
