Nova (ノヴァ Nova?) is the secondary antagonist from the second season of the Magic Knight Rayearth anime adaptation.

Nova is a part of Hikaru's soul that was created immediately after the death of Princess Emeraude, first appearing as a silhouette in Hikaru's dreams. Nova later introduces herself as Debonair's adopted daughter.

Nova is somewhat like Hikaru, determined and childish, but as a dark counterpart to her, she has personality traits that completely contradict Hikaru's as well. For example, whereas Hikaru is kindhearted and willing to help those in need, Nova is selfish and sadistic, as she referred to screams of pain as "cute" at one point. Her feelings for Hikaru are childish, often wanting Hikaru to be only hers, proven by her immediate dislike of other characters that Hikaru cares for. Her determination stems from Debonair telling her that if she loved Hikaru, she would kill her and all her loved ones, prompting her homicidal tendencies. Although mischievous in some ways, Nova is empathic of Hikaru, since she can feel every emotion that Hikaru is feeling.

history

Nova was born out of the darkness in Hikaru's heart after she had killed Princess Emeraude along with the other Magic Knights. Due to Emeraude's transporting the Knights back to Tokyo immediately after, Nova was left alone to wander Cephiro, hopelessly searching for Hikaru.

She was found and adopted as a daughter by Lady Debonair, who convinced her that if she really loved Hikaru, Nova would kill her and all of her loved ones so that they could always be together. Believing her adoptive mother, Nova went and began her conquest to eliminate her creator.

Nova first appeared as a shadowy image in one of Hikaru's dreams, in which Debonair was beginning her invasion of Cephiro. She then later appeared to Hikaru in the Magic Knights' first confrontation of Debonair. She peacefully claimed to be, "The one made just for you, Hikaru." She then immediately revealed her desire to kill Hikaru.

Throughout the second season, Nova creates many diabolical schemes to capture Hikaru. She was the one responsible for breaking Hikaru's sword. She then invaded Hikaru's mind in an attempt to capture her while Hikaru was re-attaining her sword with assistance from Sierra.

Nova was bestowed a Rune God by the name of Regalia. Regalia was not shown to be a living entity such as Rayearth, Selece, and Windam.

Nova eventually captured Lantis and tried using his love against Hikaru in the final battle. But with assistance from Eagle Vision, Hikaru was able to free Lantis and defeat Nova.

After her defeat, Nova lost control of Regalia and pleaded with Debonair for help. However, her adoptive mother now finally showed her true nature and didn't even sympathize with Nova. Confused and upset, Nova ran, only to again be confronted by Hikaru. This time though, it was Hikaru who had the upper hand. Nova aimlessly attempted to attack her and finally surrendered. She explained her story to Hikaru, who admitted she had wanted to love herself and had thus created Nova. Nova, then happy to have found her one true place, returned to Hikaru's heart.

Powers

Nova's abilities include summoning Regalia as well as use of two swords made of light, which she could conjoin to make a boomerang of sorts, and she can shoot bolts of energy out of her hands. She is also capable of using all of Hikaru's spells. After capturing Lantis, she was able to use his lightning attack.

Etymology

She is named after the Chevrolet Nova.

Trivia

An interesting aspect of Nova is that while she loves Hikaru, she hates everyone that Hikaru loves. This implies that Hikaru had hated herself for killing Emeraude.

Despite not appearing in the manga, CLAMP has made illustrations of Nova. This is because Nova was created by CLAMP Specifically for the anime at TMS' request.

Her appearance resembles that of The Shot Card from the anime adaptation of CardCaptor Sakura, another CLAMP franchise.

Chili Crab Recipe

Chili Crab is a seafood dish that originated from Singapore. This dish is composed of crab (Mud Crab is originally used) cooked in sweet and spicy sauce.

I had my first taste of this dish in the original dampa in Paranaque (a city in the Philippines). I found this to be real good and the three servings of rice can attest to that. Imagine the meaty claws of the alimango topped with sweet and spicy sauce …now that makes me really craving for more. Wouldn’t you want to try some or perhaps cook your own chili crab? Ingredients

▢2 lbs crab cut in half

▢2 tbsp cooking oil

▢2 tbsp garlic minced

▢3 tbsp ginger minced

▢1 tbsp crushed red pepper or 3 pieces sliced red chili

▢2 tbsp hoisin sauce

▢1/2 cup tomato catsup or tomato sauce

▢1/4 cup sweet chili sauce

▢2 tbsp fish sauce

▢1/2 tsp sesame oil

▢1/4 cup water

▢3 tbsp green onions or scallions thinly sliced crosswise

Instructions

Heat a cooking pot and pour the cooking oil

Saute the garlic, ginger, and crushed red pepper

Add the crab and cook for 3 to 4 minutes

Put-in the hoisin sauce, tomato ketchup, sweet chili sauce, fish sauce,and sesame oil then mix with the other ingredients

Pour-in the water and bring to a boil then simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until the sauce gets thick

Garnish with green onions on top

Powers and Abilities

As a Wind Knight, Fuu's magics revolves around the Wind Element. Her spells include:

"Winds of Healing" (Iyashi no Kaze): A healing spell. Fuu covers her target with soothing winds, healing them.

"Emerald Typhoon" (Green Whirlwind) (Midori no Shippu): Fuu's first and most used attack spell. She sends out a strong gust of wind towards the enemy.

"Winds of Admonishment" (Imashime no Kaze): Fuu covers her enemies within winds and immobilized them.

"Winds of Protection" (Mamori no Kaze): Fuu protects herself and her allies with a barrier of wind.

"Emerald Cyclone" (Midori no Zenpuu): This spell was made in the anime only. Basically, it's Fuu's strongest attack spell which spends out simultaneous gusts of wind that seem as sharp as blades.

Windam is Fuu's Rune God. Fuu was the second to revive her Rune-God, Windam. The events differ greatly between the anime and manga.

In the anime, the girls met Ferio again, this time taking care of a girl named Sera. Although he was just "taking care" of her, Fuu grew jealous on her and left with her hearts in doubt. Unfortunately for Ferio, these were all a trap set by Zagato's minion Inouva (an anime-only character). When Fuu confronted Windam, Inouva knocked Hikaru and Umi away and fought Fuu before revealing that he had Ferio as a hostage and told her to choose between Ferio's life or Windam's power. After several moments of thinking, eventually Fuu chose to save Ferio. This proved her heart's strength which Windam quickly acknowledged. He used his power to drive Inouva away, and eventually granted Fuu his powers, but would not be seen again until the last Rune-God is revived. In the end, Ferio was overcame with guilt and after a brief apology, he left. But he later helped the girls to ultimately defeat Inouva through his communicator.

In the manga, the dancer Caldina used her dance to brainwash Hikaru and Umi, and she had them fight Fuu in front of Windam. She tried her best not to injure her friends to the point that she developed a new spell to immobilize both of them. Caldina then manipulated Fuu with her dance, directing her to attack Hikaru and Umi. However, Fuu was merely "playing along" with Caldina's tricks and ended up blasting her with magic. Shortly after, Caldina repented her ways and walked away in a friendly note, and Windam also acknowledged Fuu's heart strength. This event also happened in the anime, but it has nothing to do with the test.

Ferio

Fuu develops a romantic interest towards Ferio, and unlike reports of other girls, their relationship will never be questioned, their relationship is the one that looks the most obvious in the series. Fuu was very sad when she finds out that Ferio is Emeraude's brother, but he forgives her quickly and their relationship continues to grow.

In the anime after the defeat of Debonair, Fuu and Ferio are forced to separate, However, they never forgot each other.

While in the manga it is revealed that the girls are able to return to Cephiro whenever they want, so Fuu and Ferio were able to stay together.

In the OVA, Hikaru is already friends with Umi and Fuu and they go to the same school. The story begins with Hikaru reminiscing on the past as she stands near the cherry tree. She remembers that she made a wish with Umi and Fuu to be friends forever since they believed that if a cherry blossom fairy heard them, it would grant them their wish. Just as she thought it was silly, Mokona, which she believes to be the fairy, jumps out and Hikaru proceeds to follow.

Later, Hikaru meets Clef and receives her fire powers and Rayearth, whose name was changed to Lexus (the combined Rune-Gods being named Rayearth). She then learns of her enemy, Eagle, who is trying to destroy Earth for his sister, Princess Emeraude's, sake. She and the girls fight with Eagle's minions, with some help from Lantis, in order to prevent Earth's destruction. Towards the end she fights with Zagato's dead Rune-God as Zagato had died before the events of the OVA, which Eagle had summoned to fight the Magic Knights. After defeating it, Eagle is about to summon another monster when his sister awakes from the dream he had placed her in. She tells Eagle that this isn't what she wanted, causing him to disappear.
