“Are you heading home, dear? I could accompany you, if you’d like. It’s getting dark.” Jeremy wasn’t sure what sort of town this ‘Town’ was. Maybe it was a dangerous one.

A blush quickly found solace on her cheeks. The pet name sounded weird directed at her, but it was probably just part of his regular speech. Penny bent down and lifted the phone from the grass. It wasn’t broken in any places, but it wasn’t turning on when she pushed the button. “Don’t apologize to me,” she smiled as she held the phone up for him to see. “Apologize to your phone.”

She blushed sweetly and Jeremy smiled. “Fair enough.” He looked directly at the phone with his best apologetic face. “I am so sorry, my dear fellow, I did not intend you any harm.” He looked back to her, amused. “Was that satisfactory, darling?”

Sticking his hands in his pockets, Seth shrugged. “Harsh. Doesn’t sound like there’s love lost between you. But that’s really not my business. I’m Seth, by the way. Hence the confusion. But the decent Seth. At least I hope.” He stood for a moment silently before speaking up again. “I’m sorry for eavesdropping. Wasn’t planning on it. If you want me to go feel free to say so. I won’t be offended. Well maybe a little bit,” he tacked on a quick joke at the end.

Jeremy chuckled at the man’s words. “I wouldn’t dream of it. It’s a pleasure, Seth. You are more than decent, very kind I’d say. Particularly in the face of a rude stranger.” He held out his hand for him to shake. “Jeremy Raines. Allow me at least to get you a pint.”

She laughed slightly relieved. “Oh no don’t worry about it. I’ve thrown my phone out of frustration a few times.” After admitting this she looked at the ground and smiled shyly. “Oh, I’m Alexandra by the way.”

He smiled appreciatively. “That’s very sweet of you to say. It’s a pleasure, Alexandra.” He held out his hand for her to take. To be honest, he thought to himself, I wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t want to shake the hand of some lunatic she just met in the park. But he’d extended his hand already, and it would be strange to take it away. He hoped he hadn’t come across too brash.

Alexandra was walking around the neighborhood, just getting some air when she heard some yelling in front of her. She looked up and saw a figure throw his phone on the ground, it landed in the grass not too far from where she was standing. She carefully picked it up and walked closer to the stranger. “I, uhm, i think you dropped this?” she spoke carefully handing the phone back to him. 

Jeremy was embarrassed, but he did what he could to smooth over the situation. “I’m so sorry, darling, I didn’t realize someone was so close.” He took the phone from her gratefully. “Please excuse me if I frightened you. I don’t make it a habit to throw things.”

Penny was on her way to rehearsals when she heard the fret of the guy in the park. He was perfectly disheveled, the conversation taking away what might’ve been a relaxed demeanor. When he threw the phone, it landed just before her feet. “What’s wrong stranger?” 

Jeremy didn’t realize there was a girl standing next to where his phone had landed until she spoke. “Sorry, love.” He shook his head. “Didn’t mean to throw my phone at you.” He carefully spoke calmly, making sure his frustration at his sister seep through to his conversation with this girl. He squared his shoulders.

Seth had just been out for a late night stroll when he heard the commotion. He probably would have kept walking if he hadn’t heard his name. “I really hope you weren’t talking about me, I like to think I’m a pretty decent guy.” He chuckled a little bit and looked at the man in front of him. “But are you okay?”

Jeremy was startled when a man spoke to him, but he didn’t show it. He turned round to face him and, in the most collected tone of voice he could muster up at the moment, he said, “No matter what kind of guy you are I’m sure you’re better than him.” Jeremy nodded in answer to his question. “Yes, thank you. Sorry if I disturbed you.”

“No--no, you don’t get to--Chelsea!” Jeremy was on the phone, pacing back and forth in the park by the lamppost. The sun was just starting to set, and it cast a golden hue. “Listen to me, you can’t stay in New Orleans. Seth is not good for you. I don’t care what he--” And she’d hung up. “Shit!” Jeremy threw his phone down, but it somehow it landed on the grass and not the pavement. “Unbelievable.”

Alright, so I hear some crazy shit on a daily basis, right? It’s practically in the job description for me to hear crazy shit. But today I heard the craziest shit in the full, uncut history of crazy shit. Some lady called us for tech support because she shoved a piece of sliced ham into her computer’s disc drive. A fucking piece of ham.

“That is, indeed, some crazy shit, my dear.” Jeremy chuckled. “Did she think it was a CD or something?” Her look of bewilderment really made the humor. Poor girl. Like she said, nuts was probably the standard in that department.

Got a little too crazy on my board today and almost broke my camera. But don’t worry, I was able to save it during my fall. My leg, however, now has the ugliest bruise.

“Sorry, sweet. S’probably gonna look worse before it looks better.” Jeremy felt bad for him. “At least you saved your camera.”
