Amsterdam is a city of diversity. Just as there is a hidden network that links the wide variety of cultural identities that exist within the city center, physical connections are created by a vast network of canals and bridges. It is said that these connections are where the heart of the city lies. At first glance, these connections may be hard to see, but they are deeply ingrained in the fabric of the city.
By utilizing a multi-layer organizational system, the intricacies of each individual’s journey begins to paint a picture of unity and explores the intrigue of hidden spaces. These spaces reflect and showcase the heterogeneous elements that make the city so unique.
The ground level path occurs both as an extension of the sidewalk and as a continuous journey along the waterway. Engagement is effortless and provides pedestrians and passersby with a sense of lightheartedness and ease. Balance of the city is maintained by a strategic uninterruption of space.
Elevated gardens hover elegantly above the Amstel River and are supported by a rhythmic steel structure that rests gently within the water. These gardens provide its users with a place of refuge and congregation, discovery and rest, exhibition and reflection, all truly within the heart of the city.
