Thoughts for today.

I hate to make one of those seemingly over emotional rants about humanity, but…after work, I stopped by the Starbucks near my apartment. A homeless woman who is always around the block collecting bottles was ordering a drink, digging through a produce bag for change to pay for it. The girl at the register is a friend of mine so I gestured for her to let me buy the woman’s drink, but right in front of this woman, she said “She won’t let you. I always try.” She said that even if they didn’t charge her, she would put the money in the tip jar.

The woman hands her the exact change, then throws some extra change in the tip jar. I watched her walk away with her drink and I felt oddly heartbroken. I thought about how there are so many greedy people who have literally everything they need and more, and here’s someone who hardly has anything who still refuses to let anyone give her a pass.
