The Importance of Food Security
Tumblr media
Source of image: https://data.unicef.org/resources/sofi-2022/
What is Food Security?
From my understanding food security is a type of goal, and that goal that food security is trying to make is to ensure that everyone in the world can access safe, affordable, and nutritious food, and it affects aspects like the health of a nation population, social stability of a country and even international relationships between different countries.
How is Politics and governance, social stability and health, and also international/ foreign economic relations in the mix of food security?
From the lens/ perspective of politics and governance, they make sure that the citizens of their nation are getting enough food and the nutrients that they need. That's why governments will usually have to manage resources and by doing that it ensures that everyone in the country can access healthy, nutritious, and safe food to eat, governments will usually invest in agricultural development for supplies/ resources to not run out, governments will also have to use fair distribution systems for food to be given to the population equally whether it’s the poor, middle class and even the rich if they ensure that everyone in the country will get equal amounts of resources/ food this will bring fairness to a nation.
Without good food distribution it can lead to social instability and bad food policies will significantly impact the population's health, food is a very important resource and if there is an unfairness of distribution it could lead to conflict in the community, an example of this is those who are starving they have will commit crimes such as stealing food just to survive. Having bad food policies can significantly affect the population's health negatively because if a community doesn't receive the proper nutrition they need, it will lead to malnutrition.
That's how food security concerns a country's social stability and health, if a country has good food security such as a good distribution system and good food policies it can prevent conflict in the community of a nation and it ensures that each individual of a country can eat food that’s safe and accessible, and it needs to give them the necessary nutrients they need for them to be healthy.
Food security is also a good way to build international/ foreign relations because it allows nations that create/ produce food to export it to other countries and in turn, it helps not just the distributor's economy to grow but also the countries that are buying those products. Some countries sadly can’t provide enough food to feed their people that’s why some nations heavily rely on imported food produced from other countries due to the shortage of food, but countries that heavily depend and rely on imported goods are susceptible to price changes or whenever production of the products is disrupted, it can bring issues economically and it could also strain the relationship between those countries.
In my opinion, I think food security is a good thing, and I like the goal that it's trying to set. I like the idea that everyone in the country should be able to access safe, and healthy food but in reality here in the Philippines it’s not really implemented that much mainly in food distribution, here in the Philippines it usually the rich and the middle class that can intake the food that is needed while those who are in poor are struggling to buy food that they need. There are food banks here in the Philippines, but the problem is that the government doesn’t really advertise or announce these organizations that are trying to help the poor. I feel like if the Philippines were able to fix the food distribution system it would bring fairness to this nation, maybe the government can find a way to make portions of food equal but also still be the right amount that one person needs in a full day, and this would help those who are in need but it won’t be a compromise for the rich and middle class because they are still intaking the portion of food that is needed in a full day.
Conclusion: To conclude food security is essential for a nation to maintain social stability and the health of the population, by ensuring the food that the population is eating is healthy and has the nutrients needed and the food that everyone can eat is accessible/ affordable, allows each individual to live a healthy life. It also helps to build international relationships because it allows trade and businesses to flow through imported products that help both the sender and the receiver economically.

Is media necessary for globalization?
Tumblr media
Is Media important in globalization? For me I would say Yes, media is an important tool/ cause in globalization because 9it allows the whole world to be interconnected with each other, without media we wouldn’t be able to know certain news/ major events that happened in distant places in our country or news in other countries as well. Because of media we also get to learn about other regions or countries' cultures, and we can also learn useful knowledge through media, media has truly shaped globalization because it allows us to learn and be connected to others across the world.
Examples of media helping globalization to expand: Rise of The Mass Media: Some few examples of mass media are things like television, radio, and newspapers, these early examples of media helped us to be updated on news about our country or countries across the world, and they also gave us entertainment through shows whether they’re local or international shows allowing to show different cultures through entertainment and these tools of media also helped us learn about trends and back then this was a good way for everyone around the world to be somewhat interconnected with each other.
Social Media Platforms: With social media a few examples that I know we are all familiar with are Facebook, Instagram, Discord, Reddit, and Twitter these social media platforms allow us to not just connect with our family and friends but it’s also a way for us to connect and make friends with other people in a different regions or people from across the world and these social media platforms also allows us to build communities that full of people who have the same interests like yours.
Does Media only have a positive effect on the world from a globalization perspective?
Yes and no, just like globalization it is essentially like a double-edged sword, media brings both positive impacts and negative impacts to our globe. Some of the positive impacts that media brings are connectivity, cultural exchange, knowledge/information, and economic opportunities. Connectivity, because Media allows everyone from around the world to be connected with each other through social media platforms and allows all of us to know what is happening in other countries through news channels, articles, blogs, and newspapers. Cultural Exchange, because of media everyone can access and learn about countries with very diverse cultures, traditions, food, clothing, and many more. and cultural exchange allows people to tolerate and appreciate diversity. Knowledge/ Information, because of media the whole globe can share and provide a wide spread of knowledge/information and it also allows all of us to access that knowledge/information rapidly and easily, because of media it helps people stay updated and informed in stuff like global events, education and also advancements. Economic Opportunities, because Media helps businesses to reach international markets and also helps with the economic growth of a business, the spread of global products, and job creation as well. But aside from the positive impacts that media can bring to the globe seems to be helpful to the growth and expansion of globalization there are still negative impacts that media can bring and those negative impacts being cultural homogenization, the spread of fake news/ misinformation, accessibility of private data and political and cultural bias. Cultural homogenization, media can lead to traditions and languages being overshadowed an example of this is younger kids knowing how to speak English rather than our native language. Because of the intake of Western culture and media, they tend to talk and act like the media they consume, and it results in the loss of their cultural roots. Fake News/ Misinformation, Media can spread fake news and misinformation around the globe since anyone can upload or post anything in today’s world, the rise of people believing in misinformation and fake news is quite common and because of fake news and misinformation, it can lead to confusion and misunderstandings across the globe. Accessibility of Private Data, in today’s digital age of media often involves data and because of this, it does bring concerns of personal privacy and how secure is our data when anyone in the world can access it. Political and Cultural Bias, media can shape people's views and opinions in politics and cultures and even people because if a show or movie portrays a certain group of people a ton of people that are taking that media might have shaped their opinion of that certain group and if a media is made in a way to favor a certain group or agenda it limits people to have diverse perspectives.
Conclusion: In conclusion, do I think media is necessary for globalization? for me it’s a yes, media allows us to be connected with one another easily but also has helped with the growth and expansion of globalization, and without media, our world wouldn’t be this interconnected like today aside from interconnectedness. Media also allows businesses to grow internationally, were able to learn and be accepting of other cultures, and also were able to learn a lot from the helpful knowledge that is being shared we should always take note of the bad/ negative effects that media can bring to globalization but as long as we take note of those negative affects and try our best to prevent it from happening and turning into a huge problem everything will be alright.

My Understanding of Brexit
Tumblr media
What is Brexit?
From my understanding Brexit means British exit, its essentially the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European union.
How did Brexit start? (History of Brexit)
In 2013 the British prime minister David Cameron made a speech and in the speech, he announced that he wants to change the role of the united kingdom in the EU and he also asked the citizens of the united kingdom to stay or to remain put in the EU. And after 3 years the British people by a narrow margin decided to be in favor of leaving the EU, in the next day prime minister Cameron decided to resign from his post.
In July 13 2016, Theresa may was elected as the new prime minister of the united kingdom and she was tasked to arrange Brexit with the EU and in march 2017 she finally submitted the official letter giving notice from withdrawal from the EU and this was the beginning of the 2 year negotiation period, and the topics they talked about were free trade within the EU, citizens’ rights, Brexit’s costs, the united kingdom’s debt in the EU and the backstop, to further explain the backstop is about the border between the British country of Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland, initially they both couldn't find any common ground in many points.
At the end of November 2018 both the government of the united kingdom and EU finally reached a mutual understanding on the withdrawal agreement as of now Britain will have to follow all EU regulations but they will no longer have a voice on EU committees, and now voting starts in the house of commons and majority voted against the Brexit agreement that was negotiated, then after prime minister Theresa may create a new draft but in this draft and all other following proposals were still rejected by majority of the members of the house of commons. After that Brexit had to be postponed after countless setbacks Theresa may announces that her efforts to negotiate and make a deal with the EU have failed.
On July 23, 2019, Boris Johnson became the new chairman and prime minister of the United Kingdom, and he aims to achieve withdrawal from the EU by October 31st, 2019, if it’s necessary even without a withdrawal agreement with this idea he faced a stiff resistance from both the opposition and even his own ranks as well. In the house of commons passes a no deal Brexit act this act compels the prime minister to postpone Brexit until January 31st 2020 if around October 19 he has reached no withdrawal agreement with the EU but prime minister Boris Johnson asks for an enforced suspension of parliament, the suspension of parliament was rejected by different courts of law in London’s highest court the supreme court thereupon decides that the enforced suspension was unlawful and repeals it 16 day after its initiation. The opposition demands prime minister Boris Johnson to keep his promise to achieve Brexit, then in October 17 2019 a solution appeared, prime minister Boris Johnson and jean-Claude Juncker representing the EU agreed on a deal for an orderly Brexit but this proposal as well flounders at the vote in the house of commons but in January 31st 2020 Brexit was official and the united kingdom has formally left the European Union.
Did Brexit effect the United Kingdom positively or negatively?
For me I would say that it has affected the United Kingdom negatively, Brexit damaged the economy of the UK because the UK lost a large fraction of their trade with the European union, and they also lost high value professional services trade, and the OBR economic and fiscal outlook concluded that " a 15 percent reduction in trade intensity as a result of Brexit".
Conclusion: To conclude this blog what I learned today about brexit is that it was an idea that a some of the citizens and some members of the government of the United Kingdom thought that withdrawing from the european union could help them grow and benefit them even more but in reality brexit has been a negative impact to their country.

My Idea of globalization
Tumblr media
What is globalization?
From my understanding globalization means that different countries and nations worldwide are trying to grow closer with each other by supporting each other, and how it works is by an active exchange of goods between countries and all the countries/ nations around the world are doing this, because it enables the countries that importing the products and the countries that take the imported goods to grow, they’re economy essentially like a help me help you situations. An example of this is Toyota importing their cars here in the Philippines, whenever we buy a car from Toyota it just doesn’t benefit our country by helping our economy grow but it also supports both Toyota and Japan because the more cars Toyota imports cars it enables Toyota to make more cars and also helps their home countries economy grow. But globalization isn’t only about products and economic goods but also services, knowledge, culture, and even languages.
How is culture involved in globalization?
Culture is involved in globalization because of cultural exchange, cultural exchange essentially allows the exchange of different cultural elements like food, music, fashion, art, language, and many more like traditions of different continents a few examples of this are of course Japanese food, OPM music and Chinese New Year which is a tradition in China Cultural exchange lets us explore and learn about the different traditions, food, and music of different continents in the globe.
How is Knowledge involved in globalization?
Knowledge is involved because it plays a crucial role in globalization by allowing innovation, enhancing global problem-solving, and allowing international collaboration, by allowing to exchange of knowledge across the globe it allows countries to share their expertise in different fields like technology and science and education as a whole and sharing these types of knowledge will benefit other countries that need the knowledge on how to face on major problems and how to solve them and it also gives other countries/ continents knowledge on how to grow their economy or how to sustain their economy.
Is Globalization Good?
Globalization can be both good and bad, On the positive side of globalization it promotes economic growth, innovation, cultural exchange, and international cooperation it leads nations to improve living standards and have access to global imported products/ goods but globalization also has a negative side and in the negative side it can sometimes result to inequality, cultural homogenization and negative changes in the environment like climate change and global warming due to the use of planes, ships, trucks for the use to transport imported goods are constantly increasing and because of that it causes more carbon dioxide to be released in the atmosphere so globalization can be both good and bad because globalization has its upsides and its downsides but it’s important to realize that globalization itself is neither good nor bad it depends on how people will deal with all the possibilities in the future.
My Personal Experience with Globalization
My personal experience of globalization is culture globalization where I visited Japan and learned about their culture and traditions, and when I visited Japan, I also learned about their two religion and those two religions Buddhist and Shintoist.
Conclusion In conclusion, Globalization is a way to connect every country from around the world and it’s done by doing either business importing goods to improve a country's economy, cultural exchange to learn and respect others' cultures and traditions, and sharing knowledge to create innovation and for countries to solve world problems or environmental challenges but always have the perspective that globalization will neither be good or bad because globalization will have some of its upside and downsides it just depend on how people will deal with possible challenges in the future.
